I find it interesting that the best players aren’t always the best teachers. You can tell Lex really wanted Hikaru to go into depth with some of the moves especially in beginner language and Hikaru was explaining things on a pretty high level.

Gms are like that, its easier for an IM or someone lower rated than him but still very high rated to understand him. average players can learn better from IMs or FMs
@raj6913
@raj6913 Жыл бұрын
yeah because for super gms or any expert it is just so easy, its like when you have known something for such a long time and can do effortlessly , you just assume other people must know it too because its such a trivial thing for you.

For what it's worth, I believe Hikaru is probably one of the most eloquent GMs out there. You can dig up some Hikaru videos teaching twitch streamers for their inhouse chess tournament and Hikaru pretty much did a good job dumbing it down.

I am a chess beginner but I found everything being said to be clear I don’t understand why people are saying that hikaru’s explanation to be hard to understand if anything I think he was very considerate and tried to simplify it as much as possible

@@DiscoverPhilippines_ Hikaru being able to explain doesnt not in any way mean he is eloquent. In fact he is among the least eloquent the chess players out there. The way he makes fun of everyone but Magnus (even legends of the past)

It's disappointingly shocking that, only since engines, have high level chess players (save a select few) realized that book theory is not the end all be all. They might as well let white choose the opening, black choose the defense, and then fast forward to about move 20 and start the game from there.

What I'm getting from this is humans play chess fundamentally different than computers because they have, an important, built in fear of losing. Computers are only optimizing for maximum win probability but humans just don't learn or express chess like that

Uhm, yes, and also the fact that computers can make a "weird" move because they see like 15 moves ahead.

Chess players: Why can Magnus recall thousands of games but #2 can't recall his immortal game?

Mental illness comment. Can’t use Hikaru’s name (“#2”?) and the video is literally Hikaru recalling the minute details of entire game.

magnus his memory is outstanding even amongst top gm. Dubov for example said that magnus his memory is alien. hed tell him some intricate stuff/prep in the opening and weeks later magnus recalls it better than he did. but nakamura can recall this game and many more. all the top gms can recall many games it lies at the core of what makes them great players to have great recall.... i think all the 2700 can play a couple boards blindfold

This is such a stupid statement. Saying Magnus doesn’t like his king getting attacked isn’t shading Magnus or saying he’s not the best defender in the world, it’s just saying he’s uncomfortable in those positions. Which I’m sure Magnus would agree with. Who the fuck enjoys being attacked rather than attacking

Yeah but this is true? It’s true in fact of most chess players it’s hard when an attack is formulating to defend it perfectly like an engine would. A human can overestimate an attack while an engine can calmly assess threats and deal with it. Idk what your talking about naka can be salty sometimes but this isn’t a good example.

Is Lex fucking kidding? He has interviewed like 4-5 chess players (which means he has a big interest in the game) and he doesnt know what sac means? Like throughout the interview he asks some weird questions like is Najdorf an opening? Is he doing that for his viewers that dont follow chess (but then again of they dont follow chess why are they watching a hikaru interview)?
