As a Jiujitsu practitioner I'm very happy to see Lex and Mark in a training like that, where they are pulling for each other and also creating situations where they can improve. Agreed; I said earlier "Lex is going super easy on Mark" but Lex is doing an absolutely perfect job for someone at Zuck's experience level in order for Zuck to take something away from the training. There's at least one choke submission Mark gets on Lex where it's clear that Lex literally twisted his head/neck into position so that Mark would get a tap out of it.

I was shocked at the level of skill he displayed by how he moved, lead and created openings for mark to notice. Now he missed nearly all of them but the really incredible part was watching Lex create more openings in different ways for him to try and see and take advantage of. That's how I teach martial arts and it's EXTREMELY RARE to see any instructor do that anymore. The last time I saw instructors do that is in china town in the 90s. Mark should go over this video with Lex and have Lex explain how and when he was creating openings and where he missed them and then train to remove those mistakes. In that regard, this video is great for ANY instructor to show students and see if they can recognize these openings and ask them how they'd take advantage of them. Great stuff.

I think this is a very salient point. Mark is probably the best example of a hyper intelligent person who has book-smarts to beat the band and the self-confidence to go with those smarts but lacks the ability or perhaps the humility to listen to someone who understands public relations and how one should receive that advice and how best to act upon it. That's why he comes across as a waxy, Huxleyian robotic form of a man whenever he is in the limelight (congressional hearings for example) rather than the alive-and-kicking, strong-backed, unsure but very human Jujitsuka we see in this video. This is a Mark Zuckerburg I can believe and trust and I'm ready to change my mind on the guy. But for now...

Later that day he bring the guy at the end to talk about his attitude. You here showed the total opposite and what is a true teaching, learning mindset instead. This goes by the blink of an eye, being smart and thankful saves lot of headaches in this world, instead of ego and regret.

That's the point of sparring. You learn a technique, you are familiarizing your body with the technique, make some set-ups, and then test it with your partner, get feedback, adjust, then repeat till mastery. You guys in the West are so EGOtistical to the point of sparring flies over your heads, that's why most Thai fighters don't spar with you guys cause you intent on winning instead of learning or finnese a technique.

Lex I recently discovered your podcast and it immediately became my favorite. You are a gifted conversationalist and interviewer. You used meta as a descriptor on several occasions(I have literally seen 90% of your shows). I thought I knew what meta meant but you have used it in context that confused me. Would you be able to explain what you mean when using meta, perhaps during an intro? I even looked it up on several different sites and some of the usage makes sense but I may not be the only fan who is confused by this. I chose this video because I practice Tai Chi and have trained some BJJ, in gi, so I find this whole Zuck/Elon cage match to be fascinating and even bizarre, but seeing you train with them both was great. Zuck is the founder and CEO of Meta and it just made sense to ask here. I subscribe to the simulation theory devoutly and two very high profile CEO'S of the two original social media giants after MySpace died participating in a cage match, with some legit beef and a very substantial height and weight difference is just one piece of evidence that the simulation operator(god?) is just totally fucking with us. Sorry this was so lengthy but it was necessary.

My observations: 1- Even though Lex trains in judo and wrestling, knowing Mark doesn't have much practice, he barely uses them. He went easy with foot sweep and takedown. 2- He left himself vulnerable at times and didn't exhibit strong defensive moves. 3- By sharing the video of him having a 50/50 match with a white belt despite being a black belt, Lex demonstrates his humility and lack of ego. Unfortunately, some people may not fully comprehend the situation and criticize his black belt without understanding the context. I have immense respect for Lex.

Great sparring chemistry. The amount of humility and discipline Lex showed in this sparring match was outstanding. Agreed, that was the most enjoyable part for me. Knowing that Lex is silently teaching Mark nuances of moves and has the control to make it challenging enough for Mark's ability level without just crushing him but allowing him to practice his own skills. I feel like I even saw Lex quickly grab Mark's right foot and helping him set it into place during a submission attempt at 6:41. Just a pleasure to watch and I don't even train BJJ. I'm sure a beginner and advanced bjj practitioner can see and appreciate way more of the complexities of how Lex is rolling to make it a good experience.
