Welcome aboard Dan. I have plenty more vids in production right now that may be useful to you. Thanks for watching. Much appreciate it. On a separate note, OSHA is for occupational safety which implies the company that makes your spacer follows strict guidelines in providing a safe workplace but doesn't have anything to do with quality guidelines which falls under a different organization.

Nice video, Bob. Totally agree with you, if you are going to put in the spacers, might as well go for that 1.5 inch added on both sides. Two trade-offs are, no prey make the vehicle more truck like with the overspray of mud come out which for the GX will make it still look great. The other consideration is that the shocks and struts will likely have to work harder is the leverage arm for dampening is increased, meaning that they would likely the earlier time for their replacement. Small price to pay.

just gotta put something out there to correct what you said about spacers giving more clearance under the wheel well.... it actually reduces clearance at the body mounts when the wheel is turned to near full lock in either direction, especially for folks running 33s. think about it: if you turn your wheel to near full lock, go look at the clearance to your body mount. now imagine pushing the wheel in that direction toward the body mount by the amount of the spacer. it's not an issue with stock tires, but anything larger requires further consideration to run spacers, ie, a UCA with a few degrees caster correction, or body mount chop.

Great video Bob, appreciate the attention to detail in the install. Here's my question: with the 1.5" or even the 1" do you get more road debris hitting the painted fender area? Do you think it is necessary to wrap it to protect the paint? I like the look of 1.5" but worry about salt and rocks in the Northeast eating my paint without the wheel well to catch it all.

Well…. You do have a valid point. My spacers weren’t on long enough to verify because i had to take them off for the body shop repair. Never got around to putting them back on and considering eventually doing a lift or bigger tires one day. You might want to ask a seasoned offroader with spacers about their experience on a GXOR forum.

Bob, I love your content, but I’m going to offer a counterpoint or two. Larger brakes on GXs aren’t needed. They are already powerful enough to lock up the wheels and nobody is towing super heavy with a GX. Big brakes are for track cars and HD trucks going down huge grades with 20,000 trailers. Thus, more clearance to the brakes isn’t needed. And adding a spacer is actually exposing some of the inside of the brakes to potential damage offroad or from road debris when it would otherwise be contained within the wheel. Also, GXs meet all stability requirements and won’t roll over unless loaded in a particularly unsafe way. Going 3.2% wider is highly unlikely to be a difference maker (1” per side). However, the spacers do cause the wheel bearings to be loaded a bit differently and a bit more. Likely not a huge difference, but directionally worse. Spacers also *reduce* tire clearance, not increase it. This is because of the larger scrub radius that results. A 1” spacer is essentially the same as going from a +25mm offset wheel to a 0 offset wheel (shift wheel outward). You’ll find many folks having rubbing with a 265/65r18 on aftermarket 0 offset or negative offset wheels. I have 265/70r18 with no rubbing at all on stock wheels. Like no plastic trimming or even heat gun massaging. The key is the tight inward tuck of the factory wheels that makes optimal use of available clearance. Adding a spacer gives you clearance you don’t need (to the upper control arm) but taking it away from clearance you DO need (wheel liners/body mount).

Thank you for the input, greatly appreciated. I love learning as well.

Bob, since you are now my go-to engineering expert - what do you say about the critics who state spacers put more load on all attached component and will ruin everything from axels to brakes way faster or potentially cause failure? It seems reasonable that moving the weight farther from the turning force could do this, but to what degree? Also, below you mentioned you will not get KO2s unless you have a lift. If that just for ascetics (need a lift for a more 'off-road tire) or is there another reason you won't consider them at stock height? These are things I am actively considering as new tire time is coming soon and the inset wheel & tire visual drives me crazy. Thanks and great video as always!
@GXBOB
@GXBOB Жыл бұрын
Jason. First of all, thanks for basing some of your decisions off of my commentaries. I also do apologize for not throwing out a laundry lists of cons of adding spacers but like most of my videos, i wanted people to modify knowing that there are always going to be cons that we are willing to live with if the pros give us what we are willing to sacrifice. Obviously, any non-oem modifications are going against Lexus engineers' original design for efficiency and performance. You can not modify anything without it affecting some or all common-to parts that make the entire system work together harmoniously. Spacers are a great example of this argument. Widening your track definitely puts a heavy load on your wheel bearings, affects your braking stability, changes your suspension characteristics among other things. BUT these changes are more affected on your OEM set up rather than aftermarket upgrades considering you're improving your braking stability with bigger better calipers, improving your braking stability with high end coils, shocks, and bushings, and routinely packing your wheel bearings with grease before they go out on you. Am i personally adding spacers to an OEM setup and calling it a day? No, i think this is a temporary setup for more upcoming videos for more upgrades to my suspension system. Instead of doing everything all at once (which will take forever), i broke up my upgrades into sections little at a time. Even though my setup looks fairly nice the way it is with the spacers, i am itching for bigger tires and a decent lift without going overboard 4x4. So to answer your question, aesthetics for now and upgrades for later.

Nice Video Bob! I am looking at a set of spacers for my 2010 GX460. I have 285/70/R17 All-terrain tires on aftermarket 9" rims. The offset of the new rims is such that my tire rubs the upper control arm under compression at full turn. I think spacers will help - did you notice any rubbing on the fender (front) with the spacers? What size tires are you running?
@GXBOB
@GXBOB Жыл бұрын
Hey John. Sadly i am running full stock OEM 265/60-18's. I do rub slightly doing a full U-turn but i blame that on some torn and loose fender liners i need to replace soon (which will most likely turn into a How-To video).

Nah, because tire rotations are scheduled intervals. You only worry about the parts that come on and off frequently which are the wheels. The offset of your wheels is a one time deal hence why you don’t remove the spacers until you sell your vehicle. I wouldn’t bother. Who knows, the next owner wants to keep the offset too.

Do not buy the 1” spacer. I removed that link off my page. The minimum thickness should be 1.25” in order to not conflict with your protruding oem lugs. The 1.50” is fine but will not give a flush look. It will visibly stick out if you’re into that and should be accommodated with bigger tires. The 1.50 spacer looks kinda funny with oem wheels and tires in my opinion.

Interesting. Adding spacers does not affect wheel alignment (caster, camber, toe). First I would make sure the mating surface was cleaned properly prior to install, the hub doesn’t have accumulate rust, your lugs are seated and torqued properly ,and finally when you removed and installed your wheels, did any of the weights move or fall off?

Hi Bob, My ears perked up when you said that spacers lower your COG (center of gravity). That is false. Lowering or raising your car would effect your COG or changing the weight of your vehicle in a specific direction. Widening your stance just gives you more stability by helping prevent roll-over.

@GXBOB
@GXBOB Жыл бұрын
Christian, not exactly sure what your question is but the fact that you mentioned rim brand and tires tells me you assume specific spacers work on specific rim/tire combos. These spacers are meant to fit any type of aftermarket wheels with a Bolt Pattern (Lug Pattern) - 6x139.7 . As far as type of rims and wheels, you might want to research your setup using an offset calculator such as this to roughly determine your clearance. www.1010tires.com/Tools/Wheel-Offset-Calculator

Hi Bob. hello gx460 fans. need help. after starting my gx460 2018, the climate in the car does not turn on even from the start from the key. You have to turn it on manually while sitting in the car. This happened to me after the Lexus application stopped working. in the support service they said that the 2g and 3g function is disabled in my car and it is no longer possible to add it. what ideas? Thanks.

Are you referring to remote engine start turning your AC on while you’re in the house? Or when you start your truck manually? Because the minute you sit in your truck, it takes one second to hit the auto button and your AC turns on full blast. If it’s the latter then i don’t see an issue.

Hi, I did the Spidertrax 1.25 spacers on my new 2023 GX today, and it looks awesome!!! But, i got a question/problem for you, Bob & everyone else. My 2023 GX throttle response is horrible. I keep seeing the ECO dash light turn on. Is this an always on thing? Can I turn off this "mode" to get back to a more sporty/normal throttle response? I understand hitting the shift lever over improves response, but I want the response in normal mode so I don't get the higher rpm levels. I ordered a Banks Pedal Monster today to help this vehicle get up & go. If this ECO thing is permanently done in the name of fuel economy, etc, its a big mistake, because saving 1/2 mpg at the expense of needed throttle response is actually a dangerous thing when you need to react to traffic, etc. Can anyone shed some light on this issue. Did anyone install a throttle control system on their GX, and did it alleviate this problem sufficiently? Thx!
@GXBOB

Hey B Evans. Glad Spidertrax worked out for you. And yes i had the same issue as you and decided to go with Beatsonic throttle response controller. I was sold because of the anti theft option and app control BeatSonic offered on its unit. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nZ2UlN2ezp6ycX0.html

@@GXBOB Thx for the speedy response! How is your throttle response now? Is it like a night & day difference... depending on what mode you have it in obviously. Kinda sad vehicle manufacturers have to handcuff consumers this way on such an expensive investment just to appease the EPA. We own the vehicle, at least give us the option/ability to override the system. I bet a good tuner could override this...
@GXBOB
@GXBOB Жыл бұрын
@@cadcamfreak I’ve been set on one setting because it’s a step up from oem to where i can feel the difference and not have my truck jump at a green light every time i hit the gas pedal. The app also lets you set the modes in small increments instead of choosing small, med, or large fries. I feel like that one setting you choose will be the only one you need for the life of the truck. So yes it is night and day. I haven’t had one single problem with it so far. Happy i installed it.

Why go with a relatively no-name brand versus the tried-and-true Spidertrax? Spacers aren't something I'd want to cheap out on.
@GXBOB
@GXBOB Жыл бұрын
Hey Knaudi. I definitely agree with you to a point but this is a product review that gives proven products from other countries a fair trial against the big boy namebrands. Considering KAX uses Forged 6061 Aircraft Aluminum and 10.9 grade heat treated lugs which is impressive. Spidertrax had to start from a humble beginning and in time proven themselves through years of solid performance and customer feedback. If i were to give an example it would be Costco's kirkland brand vodka versus Grey Goose. Same material, same quality control, but labeled under a different brand. But i do get your point and i always go veer towards proven namebrands if i can afford it. But a huge part of the video is also about what 1" and 1.5" spacers would look on your ride regardless of what type of spacers you go with. I hope the video did help some folks choose Spidertraxx or any other brand because of the nice new look it put on your ride. Thanks Knaudi for the comment.

Their job is to design the vehicle using the requirements collaborated by concept designers with cost, quality, and efficiency in mind. Spacers are task specific and not ideal for daily use and will also have long term effects on the overall system components.

@GXBOB
@GXBOB 8 ай бұрын
It really depends on what you're trying to accomplish. Did you need 2" spacers because you're adding bigger calipers? Want better handling around corners? Doing off-roading? Your bigger wheels/tires are rubbing your fender components? Your wheel offset needs accommodations? Find out what the purpose of you adding 2" spacers are and go with it because adding 2" spacers do come with disadvantages to your suspension system. And if you have stock wheels/tires, then 2" spacers look silly.
