Good post. The person you are referring to on Clublexus is ZGone. I was able to replace my woofer following this vid, but was unable to fully remove the door cover. It appears you were not doing this either. I was able to gain access to the speaker, and remove it so it worked in the end! Thanks for the post!

Informative video. When we repair these here, we remove the plastic trim from the speaker frame so the new surround mounts properly to the frame. Then we re-install the plastic trim. This method also prevents any cutting or trimming of the new surround.

Thanks. the two new foams from Simply Speakers were $25. 3 points I would add are 1) it's not necessary to cut the tape from the plastic tab, just push end of tab out of mount hole towards you to get at the top speaker mount bolt. 2) Remove the speaker wire connector then by squeezing the plug which has a spring loaded clip on the thin far side. 3) Use an I20H star bit to remove the speaker face plate mount, makes the whole job easier than trimming the foam ...Thanks for posting vid

Thank you for your vid. So one thing I noticed on my speaker (I also got my kit from simply speakers) is the you didn't remove the frame around the speakers. The screw that holds the frame on is hidden in the tab corners (4) under the sponge. I just peeled back the sponge without remove the sponge off completely (so i can rubber glue them back on). You'll now see the screws. They're on tight and I used a T-20 bit to remove them. Then gentle but firmly remove the frame and expose the full edge of the speaker. Now once cleaned there is no need for trimming and just put the frame back on. The key to re-doing your speakers is making sure they're as clean as possible, and carefully removing the the old ring off the cone and frame. Basically, your removing dry rotten foam (I'm sure they dried up from the heat and cold in my SC430) and you don't want to put your new sealant on the rotted foam.

I just got an 03 sc430 and sure enough after I got the car home I realized the fade on the radio was set all the way on the rear as I turned it towards the front speakers I heard that sound and it drove me nuts ! Im gonna try and do exactly what you just did ,hopefully its just my 6x9's that are bad ,actually it sounds like its only coming from the passeneger side,thank you very much for posting this im quite sure this trip to the dealer would have easily exceeded 1K$ ,Peter

Thanks for the video. Did mine today, back to sounding like new. The foam around mine were completely unglued from the lip. You are absolutely correct on getting that damn passenger door back on, what a pain, but got it! I would leave that one on next time too like on the drivers side. I was putting it off though it turned out a lot easier than I thought.

Great video. I did both of my front speakers after watching your video and it was excellent. Thanks for doing this video. I looked like a pro due to your preparation.

I replaced the speakers in my SC430 with Kenwood units. You have to carve a little bit out of the speaker mount and trim the plastic extensions on the door card otherwise the new speakers fitted straight in. Personally I would not waste my time trying to repair the Mark Levison speakers. The door card is easy to remove as long as you put the window down.

i'm not sure if other commenters were able to get the door fully off, but by combining other instructions from clublexus, i could actually pull the full door off (leaving only 3-4 wires that could be detached). i think you may have missed 2-3 large screws which would have really helped. :) the pics can be found at clublexus and seem to be posted by ZGone--totally helpful. thanks to the original video to help me realize that the door could be taken off with my newbie skills, and also to El Sifon on youtube for showing me an improved way to install the foam rings on the speakers. www.clublexus.com/forums/lexus-audio-video-security-and-electronics/288367-speaker-install-sc430.html#PhotoSwipe1470073296690

what did it sound like before u repaired it? was id crackling and rattling? thats what mine is doing and im wording if the repair kit is what i need or is the speaker its self gone defective?

@logistico123 the tweeter is located top of the door beside the side view mirror on the passenger side. i called lexus up, they are like we have to replace it with 93 dollars in labour. and oh yeah its a crossover and a 2008 rx 350

Would you say the replacement rubber is higher quality than the OEM? Any regrets not just upgrading the speakers?

I did this ....it's a band aid .....3 years later I had to take the panel off to replace the door check and the noticed the speaker surround was all crumbled all over again..... Just put a better speaker in.
