Pair of X551s came in, both with faulty headphone jacks. We replaced one and managed to make-good the other one.

If you look at the laptops schematic you can often find the exact name of the jack they used, allowing you to purchase it from an electronic component distributor for a couple of pounds. Granted, it might be from China in which case it could take months to arrive.

Is there a way to somehow cancel the termination switch that turns off the speakers when you plug in the headphones? I want to keep the speakers on when I plug in the headphones. Thank you!

Maybe this is a silly question but I'll ask... Are headphone jacks model specific per the laptop? I. E I have a Lenovo legion y540... And when trying to fix my Wi-Fi card right beside the the input port, the jack seemed to stop working .. I mean, the oc recognizes when something is plugged in, but I have to wiggle the input , and then I can briefly hear something...but I have to use more pressure than I should be. Anyway, so yes, the question is , can I order any 3.5 mm jack for laptop or is there anything to look for?

eBay or Aliexpress, you can usually find the part number by reading the number on the old IC and google searching it to confirm.

Yes, they're often unique to the product, which makes replacement jacks difficult to find.
@diddydooffurz5973
@diddydooffurz5973 2 жыл бұрын
@@Adamant_IT thank you very much for answering, i had a strong suspicion that it was like this, because when i see the aux in the laptop, i see six pins, mine has 7 or 8 which go onto the pcb board in a really strange way so that some gaps are tiny and others are really big or wide. My bose was near a wall and when i shoved it back the aux broke. I pondered over sending it in to repair and even heard that there was a good company which does those type of thing for less money than usual, but then i thought that it could still be a very high price. The problem was that when i put the aux in, i only heard the right side of the speaker which is of course not the way it should be. When i played with the aux i could manage to make it play in both speakers only when i lifted it so first i put a battery beneath it so that it would push against the top so you could hear both sides. Of course also not optimal. Then i screwed the damn thing open, disconnected the pcb so i could take a look at the aux. It was broken into the left direction so that the two metals which should make contact with the cable when it is plugged in could not simultaneously make contact with the aux metal which was pushed in. Also the whole front aux mantle was broken into pieces. So, in the end i put superglue on it, held it together with extreme force for about a minute, and now it works again because it can make full contact. It is a pity companies don´t support repair so you have to always buy new stuff, i love my bose.

Hi mate. I have a Lenovo V110-15IAP laptop and the headphone/mic jack stopped working a few days ago. It detects the headphones but not the mic. I disassembled it and the 4th jack sleeve that is supposed to be connected to the mic is grounded, measures 0 resistance to the USB ports metal casing. The jack itself and the solder joints look OK to me, not sure though. Any idea what might the problem be, please?

@@Adamant_IT I don't think it's a software issue because I tried both windows with Realtek's driver and also Kubuntu. Unfortunately I'm not anywhere near Shaftesbury to take the laptop to your shop. I think I'll just get one of those cheap USB sound cards. Thanks for your help

Hello. I need to pick and buy a used laptop. I have already selected 2 models, but I would like to know your opinion from the service side. Which of them do you think could be more reliable? Asus VivoBook 15 X512FL (i5-8265U, 8GB DDR4, SSD 256GB, IntelHD + GeForce MX250) or HP 15s-eq0017nw (Ryzen 5 3500U, 8GB RAM, SSD 512GB, Vega 8)?
@jxtapose
@jxtapose Ай бұрын
that vivobook has a mx250, pretty good for performance, and ASUS is typically more reliable and repairable. Although you shouldn't rely a laptop purchase on repairability since they all match in terms of that.

Lmao accidentally chipped a tiny corner off my headphone jack which caused some connection issues. Seems like I managed to "repair" it with my glue gun temporarily although it seems like sometimes "static" or just noises really can be heard. Think my next pair are gonna have to be wireless since I bent the plug. Not the first time so good thing the cables for my headphones are detachable and replaceable, although that has obvi not saved the jack 😅
