After being on scene performing Rapid Intervention for a few minutes forcing doors and cutting garage roll ups, the crew was replaced for RIT duties and were then asked to go to the roof and ventilate. The crew broke into two groups and quickly trench cut the roof from alpha side to Charlie side. Kudos to the members on scene today.

Another great video. These are really good for people, training/deciding whether to get into a FD, to watch to get understanding as to what is going down at a scene and how every scene is unique. Getting sworn in next month for my first experience as a Firefighter. I'm excited to put in good work and learn some cool shit along the way. Stay safe out there and keep up the videos.

HOLY SHIT. I've never seen so much clean gear in my life. I think the problem was you needed more guys on the roof. More with white helmets and maybe the rest of the RIT team.

Nice job. Not too many trucks around the country can say they have cut a trench. You guys have obviously done it before. Am I correct in assuming the brother with the white helmet and rotary saw is not with you guys? The only uh-oh moment I had when watching this was when he was cutting alone, on the edge, towards a continuation. It looked like your saw man had the same idea and went over to "help". Then another brother stepped up and backed him up. It's nice to see good aggressive truck work and guys who get it. Stay safe.

Are you SERIOUS! You are completely in La La Land. Read my comment above and put your mind to work. These guys were totally incompetent at Stopping The FIRE!

I understand this video is from a number of years ago but better late than never to add some comments. I wouldn’t say not many truck companies get to perform trench cuts considering it’s a pretty common operation across the country. What I will say is not many truck companies perform one CORRECTLY and/or when one is actually NECESSARY. In this particular incident this definitely was not necessary. These guys did nothing more than destroy someone’s property when all that manpower should have been committed to fighting the FIRE. The very first cut seen is referred to as an inspection cut for a reason. A small, easily repairable hole to “inspect” conditions below and determine A) if you’re in the right location to vent and B) if venting is necessary at all. The inspection cut revealed no indication of fire extension. To call this a “trench cut” is incorrect in the first place. A trench cut is used to prevent the fire from spreading from one point of a building to another, not from one building to another. It’s a tactic to be performed in advance of transitioning to a defensive mode of operation. What was performed in this video could have been accomplished with a few quick inspection holes in the roof and pulling a few sections of ceiling. If the concern of extension was so great than maybe some of these members should have been assigned to an exposure protection line or monitor.

The fire went 3 alarms. And with each alarm brings a RIT. So after we were put to work there was 2 Rapid Intervention Teams.

Mainly to let the hot gasses and smoke escape the structure. By doing this you prevent backdrafts and flashovers.

Was there ever any extension into that building. Seemed like a lot of work why not just poke some holes in the ceiling from down below to check for extension ? Guys did a nice job cutting and pulling the trench but didn't appear to be necessary I would think the physical separation of the 2 buildings would be a "trench" but I wasn't there and don't want to armchair quarterback just curios.

It is to help stop the spread of the fire , the idea by is that by doing this and also knocking out the ceiling it will give you an area of attack to fight the fire and stop it from spreading to other buildings

Hello, Awesome job on this fire. You guys did a fantastic job knowing not only what each of your tasks was, but executing them to the fullest. Also, the communication once on the roof was awesome. Great job, truly how an aggressive vent should go. I just had one question. I notice some of your members use the 'Turtle-Shell' (That's what we call them) Yellow helmets, and some seem to use Leather. I am impartial, but was just curious as to if there was any rhyme or reason. Take care, Ryan

Great work I know you all were asking for more help up there to get the ceiling knocked in. I saw a lot of white helmets the department I was with it was ANY officer which IF you went by standard Lt & Capt should have red helmets. However each department is different.

Why do some of the men on scene where white turnout coats. Does it specify a specific company?

kevin Powell. All Members wearing white Coats/ Helmets means they are Chief Highest in command on scenes they tell everyone else who isn’t in a white coat/ helmet what to do. Just came across this video sorry no one else has answered in 6 years. Hope that answers your question.

I notice you guys commit RIT a lot on fires to do other tasks than RIT. Why is that? Or is it handed off to another RIT team.
@ScubaSteve07194
@ScubaSteve07194 9 жыл бұрын
291xMac Not sure with LFCO but generally RIT performs a few other tasks than just standing around waiting. They can throw ladders and open extra methods of escape for firefighters inside. The only rule is that whatever they are doing they have to be able to drop it and go in in the case of a mayday. So they can only perform tasks that they don't have to commit fully to. Then again with other departments, if another team is needed for a task then the RIT team can be dedicated to a task such as vent or search or whatever and then another unit must become a new RIT team. All this depends on an individual departments guidelines though.
@gocoastgaurd721
@gocoastgaurd721 9 жыл бұрын
Yep. That's how we do it. But trench cutting a roof is difficult to just drop and go b/c you have to get down the ladder with your tools. But I agree throwing ladders, horizontal vent, forcing entry are all necessary for RIT.
@ScubaSteve07194
@ScubaSteve07194 9 жыл бұрын
291xMac yea I agree too. Once again I'm not sure how LFCO operates, but here (Atlanta) if a company is assigned a task like that then another company will take it's place.
