It still baffles my mind that a coach can be fined $25,000 for getting mad at an official, yet a player who generally makes vastly more than a coach gets fined for a infraction, the maximum allowable fine is $5000

The reason I was worried before this game was hearing Sheldon Keefe state, repeatedly that he didn't have any idea why they had played so well together for the last seven games, followed by saying that he was going to mix and try stuff on the defensive pairings.

Flaring Nostrils Freddie Mercury look-a-like Matthews only knows how to score. He is one dimensional. All the opponent has to do to neutralize him is to check him incessantly, which should not be a problem. I would rather have Connor McJesus or Nathan McKinnon on my team than that clown. At least those other two guys know how to play defence.

Good question for a 'fun fact'.. It just has to be a minus. What are we on with them. 4 seasons? Since 20-21...... TJ is +23, +20, +10, +16 (current).... Morgan is +11, +16, -9, -2 (current). As a pairing would be interesting to find out.. But it's obvious that Morgan is not the answer to the Leafs D woes and they SUCK as a pair.... BTW Brodie is +16 in 57 games this year (HockeyDB)

still trying to figure out producer Drew thinking the Matthews vs MacKinnon debate is so far off. Matthews 538 GP 351G 268A for 619P and a +130 MacKinnion 769 GP 319G 538A for 857P and a +130 so Matthews the FAR better goal scorer, MacKinnion the FAR better play maker. MacKinnion has 2.8 seasons of play more than Matthews and has 238 more points, that's 85 points per season for the extra time, I think Matthews will pretty easily match that at least.

This is a Vegas team without Eichel , Stone, Carrier , and Howden . 2 of their best players , 1 of their 4th line guys who makes up, in my opinion , the best 4th line in the NHL, and then a depth piece . Who played through the whole cup run and scored one of the OT winners in the WCF. . It’s honestly insane they can get any wins when they have literally an entire AHL line on the ice. And crazily enough that AHL line has been actually decent and one of those players scored a goal in this game . I’m obviously biased as a Vegas fan but it’s impressive . But for Toronto fans I wouldn’t worry. You guys look great and I think you’ll be good going into the playoffs. Does look like you need to pickup a defensemen though.

FYI, for power play opportunities, the Leafs have 165 of them in total. There are 5 teams with fewer: San Jose, Washington, Islanders, Seattle and Columbus. #1 is the Avalanche at 215. Detroit is #2 at 213. Out of that, all the teams with fewer PP opportunities than the Leafs are not playoff teams, and all have huge - goal differentials and likely don't have the puck that often. The Leafs are a HUGE statistical anomaly. It wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't every year...but for some strange reason it is. Interestingly enough, the Leafs are 6th in PP goals with 48. #1 is Tampa with 53 (they have 183 opportunities).

its a massive problem that the officials of the NHL are never held accountable. you can't yell at them, you can't call them out, you can't think their shit stinks OR you'll get fined a big amount of money. it isn't a secret that this league has extremely inconsistent officiating and it'll never change as long as officials are never held responsible. its a problem. it kinda makes the NHL a joke.

If I were Keefe I would be mad too, teams having 40-60 PP's more than Toronto per Season is insane! I counted at least 3 in the first period alone that could have been called but no arm went up.. most common one I see is interference and hooking. I don't like to think the Refs have something against the Leafs but the numbers don't lie and you will never convince me other teams are simply playing a cleaner more discipline game and did nothing wrong an entire game against a team as skilled and as fast as the Leafs. Ref discretion is a joke and clearly match fixing at it's finest.. go Bettman! The Canadian hating troll needs to go!

Leafs are better without Reilly in the line up, something about it can’t be just coincidental, either the leafs play better defensive hockey due to him being out or Reilly and the puck moving decisions/defensive decisions cost the team goals, I take the second option.
@aspalovin
@aspalovin 2 ай бұрын
It's both.. Reilly IS a good player but relying on him to QB the D is just not good enough.. Teams don't fear our zone. Morgan thinks he is a friggin forward and we do not have the depth we need. Time to just part ways and trade him for the pieces we NEED. Mean, Bangin, solid guys that don't get scared of the boards or hear footsteps and panic. Guys who take that puck and feed it to the rediculous talent we have up front

@@michaelheydon5266 personally, he’s a work horse on D. However, he doesn’t check anyone and he doesn’t have a slap slot, like at all. How many countless times do people set him up and he takes a weak snap shot floater to the net. The team isn’t going far unless one of the forwards are gone, to be honest quote me on this, the leafs plan is to wait until tavares and Brodie are off the books next year, that’s 16 million + the cap going up. Marner will be signed, tavares will be signed and will be 5-8million due to his recent drop off, and we will have roughly 6-9 million to get a D.

@@mdmazing183he's saying Toronto is a skill team not a grind team. Grindy gritty teams are in games that have more penalties... Partially because the style of play leads to more penalties on both sides but also because as games get more and more chippy the refs call more penalties to remind the players to smarten up. The leafs are a softer more skill driven team so you will rarely see a lot of roughing/holding calls in leaf games and likely see more hooking or tripping calls. Roughing calls tend to be easier for the refs to make so you see more of them.

@@thumpyloudfoot864 I think we've got a solid team on our hands. I'd like to go for it, get us an awesome defenceman. Andersson would be awesome. I wonder what it would take to get Parayko off the Blues. Now that's a guy I'd like to see play with a speedy Mo

Sheldon Keefe would’ve kicked dirt all over Home Plate. The umpire couldn’t call a ball from a strike last night. Home Plate wasn’t needed.

Love Bertuzzi! A guy who does all the things, all the time, that is required in the playoffs. The kind of things that the players who have played on this team never do in the playoffs.

Notice nothing mentioned about Keefe challenging a 8-2 goal against the Anaheim "not so mighty" Ducks. Something about "gotta keep the integrity in hockey"..... . two syllables "Karma"

Defense wins championships. In the playoffs mistakes are what will often doom a team. Let's be clear, the Leaf's mistakes cost them the game. Goal one against was a prime example of what was wrong with the team tonight. Reilly in particular can't allow an opponent forward to get that far behind you.

Yes. Reilly is just not good enough to be the Leafs 'best' defenseman. That is an indictment. not a compliment. -4 tonight

yup. except leafs, and IMO keefe doesn't coach these guys to play defensive playoff hockey. o'rielly commented that before he exited the team after his short leaf stint last year. leafs need defense before they need to worry about offense from their defense.

@@junk3996 True enough.. The coaches continuing to Greenlight Morgan blows my mind. I'd be telling that guy that if i catch him below of the top of the Oppo circle he is riding the pine.. But.. If Morgan is 'so good' why does he even need to be 'coached' that kind of responsibility? It's a fail on both sides of the bench with Reilly. But Dude wears a letter.. he needs to know his own role..in his own head.. in his own game.

@@aspalovinya my dad and i were baffled for the first 40 games of this year about what is going on with the leafs, why they looked so terrible blah blah, until we kinda realized, oh wait, they're probably being coached that way. seems to be true. the youtube channel hockey psychology has a breakdown on the leafs and it proves it. offense first that can win regular season games no problem, but if leafs want to do anything in the playoffs they need either a stellar D core with adequate goaltending, or adequate defense and stellar goaltending. if sammy is back to his old self, and it seems he is, and woll comes back to what he was before injury, i'd say leafs have stellar goaltending. tighten up defensive responsibilities and they could have adequate D. we've seen glimpses of it this year (most recently rielly not dressed, hmm)
