Kevin a tenor. Avi does the bass except when he is singing the solo. Then Scott does it. You can actually see him doing the low notes as the camera pans.

@@zyondeleveaux7180 they're right. Kevin IS a tenor. He's simply a tenor who beatboxes. Just like Matt & Scott are technically baritones, but can also sing bass.

I looked at google to know their names cuz I keep mixing them up and it also says which one is the bass, tenor, etc.. I don’t know if it correct but here’s what google says: Kirstin: Mezzo-soprano Avi: Bass Mitch: Tenor Matt: Bass Scott: Baritone Kevin: Cello

Avi does the bass. When Avi has a solo, Scott does the bass line.

The story I've heard is that at first, Kevin felt his voice was not as polished as the others. Luckily, his roommate on tour was Avi, and being a Julliard trained opera singer started working with Kevin, to the poi t that now his voice is as smooth as the others.

It’s ironic that everyone in the group has repeated said that Mitch has the best voice, has the most control and flexibility, and is the most consistently on pitch (Kevin has perfect pitch, but they have said that Mitch’s is very close, and they use him to orient themselves during live performances). Yet, I hear Mitch (as recent as a couple months ago) say on live streams that although he is profoundly grateful to his fans, he doesn’t really understand why people love his voice so much. ….. which makes me love him even more!

@@lynn2574 They probably use Mitch to orient themselves since Kevin can't "lead" them to the right notes most of the time because he's not singing. My son has perfect pitch, and OMG I'm sure it drives him nuts if they falter! haha! Mitch is amazing though. He really has such a beautiful quality to his voice that you just don't hear very often, despite his amazing range! I actually love it when he's NOT aiming for the stars (even though I love getting Mitch-slapped!) but when he's in the sweet spot, just a bit lower and mmmmm! (Like in Sound of Silence) It's just gorgeous!

I saw a interview with Kirstie...she was asked something like “what is your favorite part about winning the sing off” her reply.....she was SO HAPPY for Mitch! Seeing as they were school friends she saw how insecure he was with his voice. She saw the talent in him and was filled with joy for her friend!! ❤️ LOOK AT MITCH NOW! 🤯 This boy has the gift!

I remember her saying that. I have always thought that one thing (out of many) that makes PTX so successful is that history between the trio. They knew and trusted each other’s talent and abilities from the beginning- what a huge benefit going into forming a group!

If you want to see the nonchalance of Mitch rocking it, check out their cover of Kiiara’s “Gold”. It’s a single live recording. They are chilling on a couple of couches with mics and it’s utterly insane. Make sure you watch the original first so you know the absolute insanity of what’s happening. :)

I watch a lot of reaction videos, and I mean A LOT. Dude, when you said their voices are not their main gift, it's their ear... I stopped dead in my tracks. I'm kinda ticked that I didn't come up with that myself! Perfectly and beautifully said! 😍🎶🍪

Avi, Avi, Avi. Avi is a basso profundo. Kevin is percussion and Avi the bass. Scott takes over and sings down to bass when Avi does his solo. Avi majored in Opera also. Avi would love your description of him though the group has stated that he and Kevin are the kindest members of the group. The group also agrees that Mitch has the best voice in the group. Interesting that you mentioned Boyz to Men. Shawn Stockman was a judge for a singing competition call the Sing Off. Pentatonix won season 3 of the Sing Off. mitch and scott had a side project called suprfruit for a few years and they did a cover of beyonce and nikki manaj's 'feeling myself'. always stay to the very end of superfruit videos as there are bloopers.

BECOMING a Pentaholic - Boy you were a Pentaholic after the 1st Mitch-Slap!!! 🤣 I know others have told you about Avi/Scott bass switch here in the comments. Since this is a live performance, @ 1:57 of your video, you can see while Avi does his solo, Scott takes over the Bass line and you see Kevin is part of the background with Mitch and Kirsti. I love how they stay true to their talent. They don't release anything that they can't replicate live. So if Avi has a solo, then someone has to take it over the bassline. It gives them that extra X factor, in my opinion. Great reaction as always!

If you have a father that loves you and nurtures you and keeps you anchored please don't take it for granted. I haven’t been able to come up with the words to describe Avi’s bass. Rich, resonant, powerful? Others can hit the low notes, but Avi makes you live them. If you haven’t yet, you need to react to Aha, Singapore the Star Vista. Avi blows the speakers and Mitch blows your mind.

Scott takes over bass when Avi has lead, or another trick acapella groups use is to prerecord their voice and loop it into live performance. Home free openly talks about doing this for live performance.

As I understand it, PTX does not do that. If it can't be done with their own voices they don't do it or they change some tones around to make it theirs and do it their way, but not with a pre-recorded loop.

You heard Kevin singing in their "Imagine" cover. He did the last verse in his natural tenor. He can do some beatboxing techniques that produce a bass sound, but usually he is doing percussion in tandem with the bass singer. When he sings he fills in one of the middle parts.

One song they did a while ago was "Say Something" by A Great Big World and Christina Aguilera. It was haunting beautiful!! You really get to hear Avi's amazing voice!! Kevin does base, beatbox, AND he plays the cello. I've been a fan of Pentatonix for years, but that one is still one of my favorites. Check it out!!

Avi's doing ALL the bass EXCEPT during Avis solo, where Kevin picks up the da da doom hook, then it's all Avi again. I love Matt, but I also miss Avi. Check out Home Frees "Ring of Fire," where Avi joins them! Also, I've not seen any reactions to Pentatonix version of Radioactive! Do iiiiit!!! 😉

Kevin sings tenor of beatboxes. The 2 bass are Avery & Scott. Scott only sings bass when Avery takes a lead verse. Mitch is the highest tenor going into soprano. Kristin is a alto - 1st soprano.

Avi was the bass on this. Scott (blonde lead) is a baritone and as soon as Avi starts singing lead, Scott takes over the bass. If you watch while Avi is the focus on stage, Scott is right behind him and you can see him doing the bass part. Kevin is also visible and singing but his mouth is more matching the backup blend.

When the Bass (Avi or now Matt) is singing, the bass part is usually done by Scott.

this just proves that everything that Pentatonix records they CAN perform live for anyone that thought they use Auto tune .... yes Avi is the base and when Avi takes a solo Scott takes over the base line

"That bass! Is it Avi? Is it Scott?" Short answer: YES. Avi is the bass for the most part, but Scott has the range to cover the bass part when Avi sings lead. This video is unique in that you can actually SEE Scott singing bass as Avi. has the lead.

I listened to this over and over again, when I got out of ICU.. Had severe heart failure and was close to death.. And I couldn’t figure out why, I survived or why I didn’t die… ‘Cause at that time I wanted it so badly! Today I can see there’s a deeper meaning, to me being alive today.

Kevin, Avi, And Scott Kinda Share the Bass a little, Kevin for the Most part is a Tenor or High Baritone, Ive heard him sing High bass or Low Baritone But he didnt seem too comfortable and the notes werent too clear, So Its for the most part Switched Between Scott with His Baritone and Avi with his Bass

So much more of their genius to hear. When their bass (Avi) has the lead, their baritone (Scott) drops down and provides bass. Similarly, if Mitch has the lead, Kirsten rises to provide his normal background. In short, most can do three levels--tge one theyre comfortable in but at least two others.

Cancer? Mitch didn't have cancer. Edit: I just looked it up. None of the articles seem legitimate, but also Mitch never spoke about it and neither have the members.

Mitch has relative pitch and Kevin has perfect pitch however they all have incredible vocal ranges. They have all said Mitch has amazing vocal control. They have been together as a group for 10 years and recently mapped out a plan for the next 10 years.
