The brief flickers seen in the B-roll is from a now dead 5m DP cable, not the monitor itself, which was fine with our lab DP cable. Thought we missed them all in the edit but a few got through. We actually swapped DP cables half way through and it was fine for the second half of our shots. Make sure you use a good quality DP cable with this monitor

Why always 27 inch though? 27 is far too tiny for 4K to get you a real benefit, you should always go for 32 inch in 16:9 at least.
@selohcin
@selohcin 4 жыл бұрын
@@Jousten16 Not even close. If you sit at the standard 20-24" away from your monitor, you can still easily see the pixels on a 4K screen. I wish we had 27" 5K monitors like Macs do so that we could have that razor-sharp, crystal-clear "retina" clarity where everything looks pristine like it does on your smartphone.

Do you have any experience with the 34GK950F screen that he discussed at the beginning of the video? I had that model until the screen got cracked :(. How do you like the performance of this monitor? Are you getting the 160Hz on any games? One game I am looking forward to trying to get 160 at is Rocket League. I am running a RTX 2080ti with an AMD 3950x on 32gb of ram. Does the HDR feature work at all on this one? I know it doesn't have dimming so it's not TRUE HDR, but the 34GK950F pulled it off decently.

I've had the Asus pg279q for 5 years and never had an issue. It has been the best IPS monitor I have owned until now. I wanted to get into ultrawide gaming and per Hardware Unboxed review of the AOC CU34G2X as a great budget buy for ultra wide monitors I picked one up. It is a very good monitor. I was amazed as it was my first Ultra wide monitor and first VA, as the deeper blacks and nice contrast were new to me. But coming from IPS I could not un see the smearing and slight,slight ghosting. I really wanted to love it and keep it as again , it is a very good monitor at a $500 price point at 144hz. I spent 10 hours or so throughout last week adjusting every setting to try to clear up the smearing. All my research pointed to the fact you just can't with VA panels . 2 days ago I exchanged the AOC for this monitor. I am extremely happy with it. Nanocell ips is miles above my Asus Pg279q. The clarity and colors left me in awe. Yes, there is some ips glow on some darker scenes in games but nothing i can't ignore because the trade off is worth it. Buttery smooth gameplay and high FPS with all settings on ultra paired with my 3070 in all my games i tested. (Ac Valhalla, RDR2, Gta 5, many others). I didn't really want to buck up an extra $500, but as PC gaming being my main source of home entertainment I wanted the best most Immersive experience. I can tell already the $500 extra was absolutely worth it. Again, i'm only 2 days in, no issues yet so time will tell but so far iIm extremely happy. Thanks for pointing me to this monitor Hardware Unboxed!

Thank you for excellent review! Had this monitor since spring. Most of the criticism is true, I would also add that the port position makes it extremely uncomfortable to plug-unplug cables. But I don't think that you can get an ultrawide IPS monitor which is better than this one. Sure you can get older LG models at cheaper prices and Predators are comparable, but all of them have trade-offs, so it is up to you to pick which ones you can live with.

@@johnlockwood6006 I just picked up the LG Ultragear 34GP83A-B, which is basically the same monitor. According to HWinfo, the monitor was produced in week 1 0f 2022. The one issue I have is that 160 hz uses 8 bit color with dithering. At 144 hz you maintain 10 bit. I decided to keep it there as I don't see the OC a major difference at just 16 extra hz. Edit: I am coming from an Acer XR341CK. Major difference.

I just got this in 2023.... lol. To be fair, @ $700, this is still a VERY good with pixel response IPS display. Next step in ultrawide is Oled and spending 1200+ on AW UW is hard to justify for me, and is just over my limit. Anyways, the contrast on nano IPS panels are horrible! I had a dell S2721DGF that I returned because I could not get over the contrast. The HDR setting actually made the monitor worse because the unit just could not get bright enough, even though they both have the same 400 certification! No remedy to the really poor details in those darker scenes, at least for me. Ended up getting the M27Q at the time, sacrificed raw IPS speed, for OK speed and better contrast. It was worth it at the time, prior to getting my Ultrawide. Moving on to the 34GN850, the contrast and pixel response is a little better than the dell, but the monitor can seemingly get WAY brighter in HDR mode, and that is a game changer. You combine the higher HDR brightness of this nano IPS panel vs dell, then combine it with AMD Software tweaks such as: VIVID Gaming - Enabled (Most important), then tune Contrast, Brightness, and saturation sliders to your liking, and all of the sudden, you are in a different tier of monitor, seemingly. All those hard to see areas are gone, and on top of that, everything else is popping off like crazy. You can set system defaults and have games look good across the same setting, or take a step further and tune all those sliders to specific games. You can get this thing looking closer to a HDR 600 display than you think. Does anyone know if Nvidia has a similar setting to the Vivid gaming option in AMD? Basically, HDR combined with vivid gaming is the best for me, so if Nvidia doesn't have an option like that, its just not going to be as good. Simply moving the previously mentioned sliders does not seem to achieve the same result. BTW, immersion level vs a good 1440p is next level and worth it. I had a 24 inch TN and mained a 27 inch IPS, but this is better. All the screen split options windows supports is pretty amazing and easy to use and my desk is way better looking with only 1 nice display. I am currently powered by an RX 6800 (not XT) and its honestly "enough", but I'm going to stick a 6950 into it and call it a day.

I was wondering.. what mode should I use for this display.. I want to get the best performance in Warzone, and also want to calibrate this for photo work etc. So, is there just one mode I can use to do it all, or will I need to keep switching modes back and forth between "windows" and "game"? In other words, looking at the manual, online I can see that there are game 1 and game 2 presets.. where I can see where I can select the response (fastest I would assume) etc. So, is this okay to also use in windows, for photo edits etc.. or, would I need to flip back to the SRGB mode for that? So, when I would use my external screen color calibration tool.. what mode should I have the display in? What are your thoughts? Thanks so much!

I'm looking forward to this as well. Always liked the idea of the 38GL950 but thought it had too much of a "halo product" and RGB tax to it. The WN seems more in line with the performance bump of the panel without that gamer fluff, and with the added bonus of an ambient light sensor.

3840x2160@144 is still a bad choice, even a 2080TI can only drive 80hz/fps in the more demanding games at something close to ultra settings. You are effectively trading too much resolution for performance, hence the smart money still goes on "balanced" 1440P formats. Maybe with the next generations of GPU later this year the situation will change and native "4K" will finally become worth doing, but I would still choose 21:9 1440P formats all day.

Thanks for this great review! I'm looking for a new monitor because my lg 34gk950f died last week. The panel on that model is very fragile. The screen had a crack in it after I carefully wiped it clean with a special cloth. I have done this for years with other monitors and never had a problem. I was wondering if it's the same with this model, does it have the same panel? Or did they improve the overall build quality?

Great question. Did you get any responses or info on this? I have this model coming this week after my 34GK950F met a crack screen. I am not even sure how it happened to be honest, but I know it didn't take much to cause the issue. Been waiting 3 days now to see what LG says the repair is going to cost. Most of the time it costs almost as much as a new monitor. It's unreal there are no accident protection plans worth a shit for these things.

@@johnlockwood6006 haven't got a response yet, but decided to buy the gn850. It's an awesome monitor, and so far no problems with it. The overall build quality is excellent! I recommend cleaning it with a special cloth without applying too much pressure. The stand of the gn850 causes the display to come a bit more forward on your desk. But that can be fixed by swapping it with the one of the gk950f, it has the same fit. I also noticed that the monitor "joystick" menu is even more advanced than the one on the gk950f.

I got the 38 and apart from the (obvious) resolution and size differences, there is HDR 600 support but with only 8 dimming zones, so nice for trying HDR, but not the best for HDR consumption. I do like the extra pixels in height, the extra physical space is quite nice for productivity. But I wonder if the "odd" resolution may result in poorer support in games (Death Stranding does have 3440x1440, but no 3840x1600), which is already not so great for ultra wides.

I just returned my neo g9.. if you do go for it know that hdr doesn’t work well, you’ll see horizontal lines across screen, it has pretty bad blooming still even with its mini led tech.. and for me it had multiple dead pixels and stuck pixels. It is big so it’s hard to notice but it is there and I see a lot of reviews from other people with the same problems. So packaging is big obviously so it’s a pain to return.. if you really want the super ultra wide be ready to play panel lottery with this one you should probably get the regular g9 i hear it’s a bit better in quality control but still.

Nice looking panel. After I spent several 1000$ and went through lots of LG monitors, some to mention are LG 27GL850-B (extreme IPS glow on all 3 i tested, non-usable), LG 32GK850F-B (2 had dead pixels all over and it were heating up like crazy (all RMA). So I decided to stop playing lottery as it was going no where and I went to one company that had a large warehouse and got there LG 32GK650F-B. But, even LG 32GK650F-B series had dead pixels. Some cool guys at warehouse wanted to help me out and opened 6 of those monitors of which 5 had dead pixels. They were opening those boxes like it was Christmas. All of us were in shock how bad quality control was on all those monitors. All this lottery process took over 3 months and lots of energy and nerves. If there wasn't for those guys at the warehouse I would still be fishing for a monitor. The LG 32GK650F-B I have now is perfect in all ways. No backlight bleed what so ever. It's not heating up, it's actually cool. Thanks a lot HU for all the info you provided, extensive reviews and explanations.
