I've been using ROG34 since its first release 2015-16, with G-sync and 100Hz But still not sure if it's worth upgrading. With such specs, I'm waiting for superultrawide 49" (even if it's only 100Hz) For 34", I'm only accepting 4k for the moment

Yeah, depends on priorities. This is a big upgrade for gaming performance (I've got the Acer x34p and it's night and day for competitive FPS) but otherwise as you say there's nothing significant over previous gen models. Look out for the lg 38gn950 though, which gives you 160Hz and 3840x1600 for a nice size, resolution and gaming upgrade. I've got it here but yet to test it - review incoming.

I was wondering if you could help me though how do i get it to run at 160HZ I've turned on OC and set the custom refresh rate to 160HZ but it stays at 144HZ do i have to disable Gsync. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My head is spinning from those monitors. I'm looking for one now and can't decide.I'm mainly a video editor, but I like to play time to time, so would be nice to get ultrawide with 144hz. This one looks like a decent option in my opinion.

Yeah, that's the extended gamut for you (and why I keep trying to drum in to viewers that extended gamut/HDR is a big con for the most part). On this display you can just switch to sRGB mode and away you go, or at least that was my experience.
@SVT_LIGHTNING
@SVT_LIGHTNING 3 жыл бұрын
Gosh my first one was just a yellow tint mess with two stuck pixels. It was the ugliest picture quality I have ever seen. Even trying to use cool or user color profile it was still yellow. Calibrated it and it was still yellow. The only thing that worked to change it was the nivida control panel and adjust the gamma of red and green down a ton and raise the blue gamma. I said no way and returned it and repurchased the same one and the second one came with a lot less yellow tint but still had some but no stuck pixels. Is it normal for these monitors to have the yellow tint? Like a warm color feel to them? I can’t stand it. My srgb mode it just a Yellow tint and I can’t distinguish colors. I have to use the windows calibration tool and play with the settings on the monitor to get a decent pic to my liking. I like it more cool over warm. But it seems lg wants to shove the warm color down your throat. Hdr is nothing but yellow and you can’t adjust colors while hdr is enabled on this monitor which is just a outrage at $1,000 dollars. No freedom to adjust your expensive monitor and you’re stuck with what lg sets for you at the factory. My aorus 27” f127q 1440p ips monitor lets me change every little setting that I want too with hdr on or off and gives you the freedom to do what you want. Why does lg lock down their menu so much? I have no control over anything with hdr on besides brightness and sharpness. That’s it. For $1,000 it makes it feel and look like I bought a cheep $200 budget monitor with no settings.

@TechyTalkUK
@TechyTalkUK 3 жыл бұрын
For raw gaming performance, it wouldn't be a huge upgrade, although the response time of this panel is definitely a step up. The extra screen space is not to be sniffed at though. That would and should be the main reason for upgrading and remains a big step up. Does depend what games you play though. I find I don't like playing competitive FPS on ultrawides. I have a second 25in 240hz screen for that.

XB271HUB gets slightly worser with overshoot in middle overdrive at low Hz, not perfect adjusted adaptive overdrive. 34GN850-B should be better too here, even without adaptive overdrive. On maximum refresh rate XB271HUB have on most transitions slightly overshoot and "no" smearing on middle overdrive. Overdrive off is noticable smearing there.
@Mordakar
@Mordakar 3 жыл бұрын
I have the TN version of the XB271HU. I'm waffling on VA vs IPS, because VA has better blacks, but I hate the idea of smearing, and when it's noticeable, it's really freaking noticeable. On the other hand, the contrast on an IPS wouldn't be a lot better than a TN, and glow is something I'm not sure I want to deal with. You pretty happy with your purchase?

How is this possible that have 144 and 160Hz different color temps? They should be the same and 10 bit and 8 bit shouldn't have big noticable difference. Possibly different color presets active? I search for a XB271HUB replacement, which is compatible with both graphics card brands and this must good response times over the entire freesync range. 34GB80-B and S2721DGF are fast enough, but S2721DGF have often problems with blackscreens on desktop and on 48Hz in freesync. And colors shoulb be the same, if I use mostly 120Hz on desktop (best there with 60Hz monitor as secondary) and I use maximum refresh rate with Freesync/G-Sync in games.
@TechyTalkUK
@TechyTalkUK 3 жыл бұрын
It's the same with most monitors. Driving the pixels at different rates affects how they show colours. I'm not sure exactly of the mechanics of what causes it (you'd have thought it wouldn't matter once a static colour is being shown, as is used when testing with a colorimeter) but it's very common that overclocking a display results in worse image quality. Here it's a small enough difference that most people won't notice.
@BangerMV

@@TechyTalkUK: On my XB271HUB i didn't see any differences between 144 and 165Hz, white looks same, no slightly blue tint etc. I search for a Freesync monitor, which is better then XB271HUB and which doesn't have restrictions to Nvidia. My other highly requirement is good response times with no smearing and with no getting worser overshoot cancer over the entire freesync range during gaming. This brings me to LG IPS panels. AUO and Innolux panels are too slow at lower refresh rates with no adaptive overdrive and getting worser overshoot at ~120Hz and lower. 34GN850-B is extremely expensive, S2721DGF cost half, but many people have problems with blackscreens on desktop and in freesync range while dropping in 48Hz area.

@@TechyTalkUK: And I want to use one of my old monitors as second screen and I fear the ~250K differecnce becomes extremely difference while use second monitor, which doesn't change Kelvin. Mostly I use 120Hz on desktop on main monitor, best refresh rate if combinated with 60Hz, otherwise on second 60Hz screen is scrolling / moving windows juddering and nonsmooth, if main is on 144 or 160Hz. But in gaming I use maximum refresh rate with Freesync / G-Sync.

Most HDR monitor have "fake" HDR, just contrast and brightness to maximum. Okay, that's basically HDR for most of them. And I can tell, I disabled it after quite a time since it was hurting my eyes due to the high brightness and close distance. Especially when you're playing in a dark room at night, it's killing you at some point.

999 what? I wouldn't buy a particularly high speed monitor for any of the things you've described. That said, it's not like there are all that many much cheaper 27in, 1440p IPS screens with a lower refresh rate. You're still paying around £300 for 60Hz, and there's nothing much cheaper before you hit the £400-500 for 144Hz models. Again, though, depends what currency you mean and what price other monitors are in your area.
