LG Home Theater Turning OFF Immediately After Its Switched ON

This LG Home Theater was turning OFF immediately after the owner switched ON. In this video I take you step by step on how I solved this issue. Note that this is not a How-To video on how to fix this problem.
I did not use any digital multi-meter to check any components in the power supply. My experience of noticing a swollen capacitor and replacing it was all that was needed.

I've been suffering with this issue for over a year. Having to constantly press the power button for like 20mins to finally get sound. Watched your video and decided to give it a go. 9 pound soldering iron and 2 pound for the part. Fantastic!! Thank you. 👍 top bloke 👏 👌

THANK YOU SIR. Had the same exact issue with my similar LG unit, opened it up, sure enough one of the capacitors had the bulge and was blown. Ordered 5 same spec capacitors off amazon for $8, opened the unit, soldered, works perfectly, saved my $400+

The best video on youtube. I have a lg ht914s, and the problem is, aux and radio have a poor volume. It's actually very law with zero base

You say the AUX and FM Radio have low volume. Assuming that CD and DVD have normal volume, then the problem might be with the main board.The only remedy will be to replace it. Now this might be a problem because I am 100% sure that all spare parts for this model, HT914S are discontinued. My advice would be to buy another home theater system.

Hi Dominic, I bought lg 647 and it had an issue of fading out sound after an hour or so, I went to service center after repairing it the issue continued. I was given another new one again the same problem, so we decided to upgrade to lg 657 which after singing for an hour again it did the same by fading the sound off,what could be the issue?

@@DominicGichanethankyou for this video, I’ve never been any good at soldering and watching your video not only helped me fix my capacitor issue but the tip of bending the prongs really helped keep it in place and also prompted me to buy one extra capacitor Incase I had any problems. Now my home theatre has a new lease of life thanks to you!

Hey Dominic what do you think the problem could be for a home theatre that has volume fluctuating on its own, it goes lower on its own and after sometime it goes up and down again. when you turn it off it goes back to normal but after 2 minutes the problem reoccurs. Can you suggest what could be the problem, cheers.

The problem could be one of the following 1. The amplifier IC is going bad and needs replacement. 2. One of your speakers has a short circuit. For problem 2 try disconnecting all speakers and connect only one at a time. If one of your speakers has a problem then the volume will start fluctuating after you connect it. If the problem is not a speaker then its the amplifier IC which is connected to the main board. So the main board needs replacement for problem 1.

Thanks. My guess is the front PCB is the problem. It would be better if you took it to a technician to check the exact problem.

This simply means that the display PCB is failing. The only remedy is to change it but it may be discontinued. My only solution is to use the remote control.

@@adeniyiadeyemi19 I meant changing the display PCB. It contains the display as well as the buttons. Since you say it keeps on changing, try and have the display PCB cleaned with dry cleaner first.

Hi, I have a similar problem but mine stays on for about 5 to 7 seconds before turning off. I noticed that I can switch input if I'm fast enough so it can't be the firmware problem I initially thought it was. I opened it up but didn't notice any swollen capacitor. Please, what else could be the issue? Thanks.

I want to ask, can anyone in the topic, there is such a device LGHB976TZW, the receiver itself is dead can not be repaired there is a replacement of the board is needed and I do not find spare parts for it anywhere, the buffer itself from the receiver is connected by air via Bluetooth, the other speakers are all connected to the buffer, respectively, they also do not work . Maybe there is some universal receiver that can turn on the buffer to make the whole system work?

I had exactly same issue, same capacitor (even the same manufacturer "Chang"). After replacing it my device worked fine again.

The display/control PCB is faulty. The only remedy is replacement.

It is very hard for me to pinpoint the exact problem but it could be one of the following. 1. The main board has a problem 2. The power supply could be faulty. 3. One of your speaker has a short circuit and that is why the unit is turning itself OFF in order to protect the mother board. The first thing you should try is disconnecting all the speakers and see if the problem persists. Take it to a trained technician if the problem is still there.

Seems like you have a very good deal. Here in Kenya, the same spare is sold for around 80USD. The installation charges are an extra 20USD.

You cant but if you connect it to an LG TV with Simplink, then you can use the TVs remote to change FM stations like I did here kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ra6koZWGr7LLf4k.html

When i just turn on the HTS and its connected my phone Bluetooth , the sound is so loud and robust. After 5 secs the sound slowly declines and stops at a much lower and softer level.

Updating software only makes sense for Blu-ray devices. You can easily brick your device by updating it manually with software downloaded from the internet.

The simple answer is No. If you replaced the word LG with another brand in your Google/KZfaq search query, you might come to the same conclusion about Sony, Samsung etc.
