Target says they've experienced threats over the displays that impact workers' sense of safety. Some of the products have been removed, some displays taken from the front of stores.

The reality is that companies are realizing being seen as an ally doesn't do too much for them in benefitting sales. But the pushback against it recently is costing sales. So, I am guessing you are going to see a lot of these companies washing their hands of the situation overall and saying they aren't going to participate in such allyship in the future. They aren't in business for those type things. They are in business to make money.

Target initially added the pride merchandise because they thought it would increase sales, and they would get money from their stakeholders. Since then, they have lost $9b.

However, when they find that something has had a negative impact, they get rid of it. It isn't about politics of feelings for them. It is just money. That's why people's response has been somewhat funny. They act like Target is betraying them or something. It is simply doing what it is in its best interest to be profitable.
