One thing a lot of first-time viewers miss is one of its most bittersweet moments. In the motel, Kyle talks about the picture, and how he always wondered what she was thinking at that moment. Flash forward to the end, when the picture is actually taken, we learn she was thinking about him. :) Great reaction.

Yeah. I heard one viewer say how creepy Kyle was for falling in love with Sarah based solely on her photo. They totally missed the point. Its a shame that we never got to fully explore this bittersweet love affair between Kyle and Sarah in later movies. I dont know what that crap in Genisys was. I mean, Salvation and its sequels shouldve been solely about Kyle. Who the f**k asked for Marcus?
@Jack_80
@Jack_80 3 ай бұрын
i've seen people say they like the actors for kyle and sarah in genisys, which is just crazy to me. i think it's some of the worst casting ever. in the original, kyle felt like someone who was from a different, much more harsh reality. you felt none of that in genisys. sarah wasn't nearly as believable in genisys either. i do think genisys is a more entertaining movie than dark fate, but the actors for kyle and sarah were just awful choices.

Funny, I look at it in the reverse. A scifi movie with horror elements. However, until I began doing some indie horror films, my impression of horror was lots of supernatural activities and gore. But, I am now looking at it in simply "fear" terms. No blood/guts necessary.

The factory in Terminator is indeed Cyberdyne Systems. This is however not clear from the film itself but can be found in some of the deleted scenes. Sarah asks Kyle about where the Terminators and Skynet come from and she looks them up in the phone book.

Totally second this, Directors Cut is fine, but the Special/Extended Edition has a bunch of stuff added that truly belonged on the cutting room floor. Figuring out which version you're actually being shown until it's too late is a pain, so theatrical is just the safer option.

Awesome to see some people who get it. When I was younger I liked the longer version but the older I get, I like the theatrical version more. The editing is better. It moves like it's injected with rocket fuel. The extra stuff just bogs it down and there's nothing in the longer version that is needed. I feel the same way about Aliens as well..

Gteat reaction Liala to this action sci-fi classic...I hope you do the sequel 'Terminator 2: Judgement Day' soon. There actually 3 versions/cuts of T2. The Theatrical Cut (which was the version that everyone saw in theaters worldwide), the Special Edition (which has some deleted scenes added back in) and the Extended Special Edition (which has all the deleted scenes added back in, including an alternate ending). I recommend watching the theatrical cut/version first, then later on, if you're curious, feel free check out the other versions to see what was cut out and/or changed....No matrer what version of T2 you actually watch, it is a great movie and one of the best sequels of all time. The Kyle/Sarah love story is a time paradox. But theres also another time paradox some people miss. The computer factory where she crushes the Terminator is called Cyberdyne Systems. Its also the same company that use the Terminator technology to create the AI that would eventually create the terminators.

FYI: Several scenes written and filmed were eventually cut, scenes that involved a whole additional plot thread. These scenes were eventually chopped, certainly to streamline the film, but probably because they (shown on the DVD extras) were kind of clunky. As it turns out, however, a surprise revealed in that longer version formed the basis of the central thread of the sequel! Okay, I don't want to give any of this away, but it boils down to the fact that Sarah's "mission" in the sequel was temporarily a mission Sarah came up with in the cut version of this film.

29:43 The Terminator's budget was about a quarter of what Arnold would get paid for Terminator 2. Arnie made 15 million for T2, T1 cost just 6 million. Case and point is the shot at 29:43. It is aluminum foil, foam core, a christmas light, and cigarette smoke. They were out of money when they created this, the final shot of the T-800 Endoskeleton with its red eye finally running out of joice. This was a tough movie to get made, and yet, in my view, it is probably the most compelling of all the Terminator movies, though Terminator 2 probably has the better "message." There's something about this low budget movie from the 80s that still speaks to me. The creativity, the blood sweat and tears that went into getting it made by everyone involved. Everyone believed in it. Brad Fiedel, the composer, was so enamored watching the rough cut that he started silently making noises at different times, and getting *really* excited to work on it. When the upper half of the terminator comes back to life and goes after Sarah he blurted out during the screaming "If he gets up one more time I'm leaving." and he immediately thought to himself (You idiot, you just cost yourself the job.) and he sat quietly, watching the rest of the movie, thinking he wasn't going to get the job. Lucky for us, he did, because he gave us one of the most iconic themes in motion picture history.

17:01 I want to point out, here, a point in which the philosophy of war becomes relevant. In his book _The Art of War,_ Sun Tzu observes, "Know your enemy and know yourself and you need not fear the outcome of 1000 battles. Know yourself but not your enemy and for every victory, you will suffer a defeat. Know neither your enemy nor yourself and you will succumb in every confrontation." Kyle Reese is realistic about the nature of the T800, so even though it surpasses him in _every_ measurable way, he's able to fight it. But the LAPD is not realistic about their adversary. The LAPD insists on treating the T800 as an amateur bodybuilder on a roid-rage kick instead of an indestructible cyborg, and as such, they're _utterly_ unable to deal with him. If, somehow, Reese could've gotten through to them and _made_ them realistic, they could've compensated for the technology imbalance. Most likely, they could've put Sarah and Kyle in a safehouse, some place most of the officers in the precinct don't know about.

There's a reason 3 of the first 5 movies to gross $1billion at the box office were directed and written by James Cameron. He's an incredible story-teller and his films are never JUST an action movie, they've always got multiple angles going on and executed excellently. This was while he was still an up-and-coming director, the sequel is what happens when you give this guy a serious budget.

Director James Cameron originally wanted Arnold to play Kyle Reese, and his first choice for the Terminator was actually Lance Henrikson. But after Arnold read the script, he said he'd rather play the Terminator, so we got the movie you've seen. Lance still appeared as one of the main cops at the precinct. James wanted the Terminator to look like an average guy because he was an infiltration unit. There is plenty of great model work in this film. The HK flying drones, the tank like Hk ground units, the Terminator after his skin is burned off. Except in the close ups when its a full size animatronic puppet. Even the awesome truck explosion at the end. That was actually a very large (6 foot long apx) truck model being blown up. This is a great gilm. The second one is awesome too! The second movie is one of those rare sequels that are considered better than the first film by many fans.

This is still my favorite of the Terminator movies, as this is the only Sci Fi Horror movie in the franchise. After the original movie the rest are full action movies. I personally only like the first four movies, Terminator 1-3 and Salvation. However I always recommend first time viewers to watch everything at least once to formulate their own opinions on the movies. Especially since most Terminator "fans" seem to think Terminator 2 is the holy grail and Terminator 3 should be buried in an unmarked grave. T2 is great if you forget the extended ending which contradicts the entire story in the series. T3 has some amazingly effects and fixes that mistake ending in T2.

older movies are the best, certainly blockbusters from the eighties and seventies, but also very old movies like war of the worlds (1953) the day the earth caught fire (1961) when worlds collide (1951) the day the earth stood still (1951) this island earth (1955) and my favorite one, forbidden planet (1956)

This is the ONLY terminator movie that is a closed loop. No plotholes. There weren't supposed to be sequels.

The thing that really makes this movie keep going, is that of all the science fiction ever made, it predicted the issues of the future more accurately than any other. Just ask OpenAI and Boston Dynamics. The only thing that isn’t happening is time travel, because it’s not possible. But that’s also the only thing that saved them…

T1 is the best Terminator movie and the best predictor of our future. We've already been targeted for termination. It's a matter of time now. Have a great weekend!

Up and coming guerilla filmmaker James Cameron decided to take matters into his own hands in making his films, his way by creating a new kind of cinematic myth. Based on nightmares he had about skeletal-looking machines with eyes as red as death. Prior to casting The Terminator; Schwarzenegger was a veteran/champion in the bodybuilding scene who became a movie star after Conan the Barbarian (1982), Linda Hamilton (Sarah Connor) appeared in Stephen King's Children of the Corn months earlier and Michael Biehn (Kyle Reese) had appeared in a theatre production of "Cat on A Hot Tin Roof". Very few resources that came together to make this happen. Low budget, small locations, short filming schedule and good 'state of the art' effects for it's time. It was all worth it as it became one of the best movies of the year. Highly iconic from the scenes of drama, suspense and action. Also some of the most memorable lines ever (I'll be back is unforgettable). The original score and Terminator main theme by Brad Fiedel is one of the best ever. By now, the franchise has been all over the place. 5 more films (3 sequels, 2 attempted reboots) and a tv series of 2 seasons. Comics, video games, toys, a short-lived theme park attraction and much more. 40 years later. Amazing isn't it.

It's not a spoiler, but, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, you will like it more, and something tells me that you will cry more too.

Funny you should mention having nightmares. Famously, James Cameron came up with this movie from having a nightmare about a metal skelton surrounded by fire. The More You Know. 😄 I'm really glad you like the movie. I think it's even more amazing when you realize that this movie had basically _no_ budget. That's why the look of the Arnold puppet is a bit--dodgy. James Cameron has proved--starting with the sequel to this very movie--that given the money, he _will_ make a movie look good, and make everything look fitting. It's also important to note that time was a problem, particularly with the stop-motion segments. The Terminator skeleton puppet wasn't given to the stop-motion team until almost the very last minute, so they had less than a _quarter_ of the time to take their measurements, make a model, and film it than they should have had. As such, the stop-motion scenes aren't as great as they could have been. It's too little money and too little time. I'm fully on-board with the "watch the sequel" train. It really is considered as good, some even consider it much better, than the first. Also, as I alluded to, it had a bigger budget and a lot more time, so everything looks positively stunning. Everything _after_ the second movie is where things get argumentative in the fanbase. Everyone loves the first two, but from there on it's a mixed bag. Between a handful of movies and a television show, plots are picked up and thrown away, the physics of pretty much everything vary based on the movie or show, and in general it's--frankly, it's a mess. Personally, I suggest to just ignore the franchise after the sequel, save for _Terminator: Dark Fate._ The movies and series get really weird, contradict each other and themselves, and generally are just a mess, as I said. _Dark Fate,_ however, was made specifically to take place after the first sequel, _Terminator 2: Judgment Day,_ so it thoroughly ignores all that chaos, plus it was created with direct involvement by James Cameron. Personally, I feel it's a very good third movie to follow the first two. That said, you're going to get a lot of people argung for or against the entire franchise, so really, it's up to you, of course. 🏳‍🌈🖖
