I worked for the man in my late 20s. Not only was he a pleasure and great person to work for, but he never once made a "pass" at me, and in fact arranged for my then Girlfriend and I to be "comp'd" at Las Vegas Hilton, being VIPs at his show, to help encourage me with the relationship. He was kind, appreciative, and never acted like he was a celebrity. We all knew he was gay, but it didn't matter. What a great human being. On the day he died, I cried. It was my privilege to have known this man, and I never forgot the magnitude of the moments he generously shared.

sorry but as a gay person its very very important ,famous people in bussness, sports ,movies, tv ,music ,they have to say it,because they help to the common people who is gay,and a lot of those famous died and nobody knows what they was, and straights catch them by his own gender, example like james dean and history talk about those like they were straigh ,not fair ,in early 90s i have discussion with straight friends about ricky martin he was 18 i say hes gay, they laugh and use the same words straight people use always ,cause u are gay dont mean everybody is,10 years later i did laughin their faces!

@@jj-one2048 How about respecting someone's wishes to not be hassled about their sexuality if they don't want to talk about it? Why is it anyone's business what someone else's sexual orientation is? Would Liberace have been any more kind or talented if he did talk about his sexuality? Everyone knew Luther Vandross was gay, but did anybody care? No, because Luther Vandriss was still the man! Why does it matter if anyone is gay, straight, bi, pan, etc., etc. as long as they treat others with kindness and respect? There's a lot of famous people who might be gay that we don't know about because it's none of our business. All that matters is that they're good-hearted people and masters of their craft.......period.

Surely open communication is better than being forced to talk in riddles. And by the way I can recall no instance of an interviewer today ever having pushed a mic in a person's face and asked them openly if they are gay. @Barbara Guest...pardon me, but how do you know what he "earned" in "God's eternity?" Scott Thorson turned 18 on January 23, 1977 and did not even meet Liberace until later that same year, so he wasn't 16. No matter who agrees or disagree with the age difference or the relationship between the two men, the truth of it is that Scott was legally an adult when he moved in with Liberace. If you are leaning on Behind The Candelabra for anything factual, I'm afraid you will be disappointed. I saw the movie...thought it was garbage (just my opinion)...decided to read the book because the books (in my opinion) are generally better than the movies that come out of them. Scott Thorson mentions Liberace's "blue eyes" in three separate chapters of the book (also garbage...in my opinion). Seems like an insignificant detail, I know, but how can Scott Thorson claim a 5 year affair with Liberace and not know that the man had brown eyes?? How you can compare Liberace to Warren Jeff's is beyond me, as Liberace was not raping 10 year olds on the altar in "the name of God." I respect your opinion, whether or not I agree with it...and I support your right to have that opinion...whether or not I agree with it...but none of us know what happened between God and Liberace when he stepped out into eternity. That's between them.

I thought that was icky, but then all marriages are icky when you're a little kid. We didn't care. He still was a great pianist and an astounding entertainer! Not true. I knew MANY older ladies who thought of Liberace as a heart throb. They loved his looks, his fashion sense, his smile/wink, his class, and his talent. It's always been a ploy by Hollywood NOT to have their talent talk about their dating life to keep fans dreams/fantasies about "maybe I could be the one" alive. George Michaels and Ricky Martin were guys most other guys knew were gay but the girls NEVER and they went crazy for them. The same with Liberace in an earlier day. My grandma was crazy about Liberace and wanted to marry him when she was young.

Im not sure if it's any easier in todays world. Extreme far right politics is bigger now than its ever been since the 1930s, and its only growing. Maybe there was less acceptance generally back then, I dont know when this was filmed, but the politics of everyday life was nowhere near as extreme. The 90s and 00's were much more stable and predictable. You knew exactly what you were getting. But the 2020's are the complete opposite, they are explosive and unpredictable. Historically, he was known to be such a kind man. He was gracious. He was charitable in almost everything he pursued. He was the epitome of a good son any parent would have dreamed of at that time (or any), save for this one thing that made him different. I was not old enough to watch his tv performances early on when he became popular. I did, however, watch his persecution in real time, and as a straight person, I found it revolting bc it came mostly after his death from people who didn’t know him. Don’t shun dead people (unless its like a Charlie Manson type, I guess), it’s just tacky. Don’t do it.

The only "problems" gay and lesbian people have ever had is how others treated and persecuted them and brainwashed generations of people to continue to do the same. The English journalist who "outed" Liberace was not a mere gossip columnist but the legendary "Cassandra" (Bill Connor), a brilliant journalist who had his own regular column in the Daily Mirror (a UK tabloid that supports the Labour Party). I have a lot of sympathy for Liberace, though; he is quite right to hint here that such revelations could, if unchallenged, have ruined (or at least seriously damaged) his career in the more puritanical climate of the 1950s.

Liberace's homosexuality was the worst-kept secret in show business, but most people didn't care. His fans knew he was a great musical entertainer and a nice guy. Everybody else just laughed him off and went and listened to the Stones.

I'm a masculine gay guy and I'm not "out". The reason? I have no obligation to "come out". What I do in private is my business; not yours. If people who know me think I'm gay, that's their business and I could care less. Just don't bring it up, as it's not up for discussion. Straight people don't come out as straight, so why are gay people expected to? People just need to mind their own business!

I'm glad he seemed to have felt much more at ease in his later years, and that he got to live through to an era in which people were more accepting, although we today recognize that in the late 1980s when he passed there was still work to be done and that there are those in the world who still suffer repression and lack of acceptance even today.

I really discovered Liberace years after his death. And such a big bright shining star he was, in the world of music. He literally created the genre of this music. I think 😅 at least for me....He brought back love of the piano for so many. I’m so grateful to have lived in this time and to be able to enjoy his music. And if you haven’t yet, please look up the “cement mixer” song it’s so funny 😂 as with all stars they are our entertainment/American royalty😍 Their personal lives should be there own. Just like all of us. I have lost respect for some movie stars who have just been so super hateful in the press. I understand that all of us have an opinion but when you put yourself in that place on that pedestal we want to keep you there. I hope that’s understandable. We need our heroes here in America and like Dolly Parton she is one of our national treasures. She never says anything political. I love that about her. She is a true lady. She is a true star just like Liberace was.

Yes I agree, it’s called class. We had so many stars that had class but sadly today they are a dying breed. 😥

My grandfather was a huge fan of Liberace. I recall him going on about what a fantastic piano player he was, but he never mentioned anything about his lifestyle. He must have known Liberace was gay; he just didn’t care. Wouldn’t the world be a better place if we just see people for their accomplishments and contributions, and keep our noses out of other peoples private lives?

You're clearly feeling pretty safe behind your keyboard. Only a pathetic little punk would say something like that about someone's dead Grandfather. Loser.

Used go go to my Grandparents in the 60's. Lawrence Welk, Liberace, or Mutual of Omahas wild kingdom seemed to be always on the big console TV. Too bad Liberace didn't/ couldn't come out during his lifetime. He would probably be a major leader in the LBGT movement.
