Great tour of your library. What I like most is that it is theologically diverse. You’re not stuck just reading a certain theological position but you read across the board. Keep up the good work and I greatly enjoy your videos.

@God Stories I appreciate your comment... and I have been tempted to go digital as well.. but about 80 % of my library is books circa 1880 - 1920 .. copyright.. I cherish these the greatest.. ...ones written before video and machines.. when most of America sat in parlors.. and used lanterns.. I get a certain sense.. of importance of God's word.. and the priority it had more so from those ages than many of the more modern stuff written now...many of my volumes are rarities... they cannot be found.. as about all of them are out of print.. I just cannot see giving those hard cover treasures up for something I cannot grasp in my hands...

Usually when I meet anyone new and visit their home one of the first things I like to see is their library, if they have one. You're right in saying you can tell a lot about someone from their library. I've been a Christian for over 40 years and have grown my library over that time. It's been purged many times for various reasons. Sometimes financial but most often because I no longer found the books of value to me spiritually. I enjoyed watching your video and your comments. I too have a love for Leonard Ravenhill and I actually know the author of the biography you have of his. I also noticed you own some AW Tozer who was a very fine preacher. Some authors that you may not know about that are in similar veins I could recommend would be: T.Austin-Sparks, Alan Redpath, FJ Huegel, LE Maxwell, CA Coates, JB Stoney, Major W Ian Thomas, HCG Moule, Ruth Paxson I have found most anything written by these authors worth your time. I hope you're encouraged in view of the Lord's Day and the Day of the Lord!

If you're open to recommendations, I would say, Read the Complete Word Study volumes you have there by Zodhiates. Look up each word in every verse as you read; pay attention to the grammar, esp.verb tenses and prepositions. Vital words that leap off the page, using the index, look at how each Greek word is rendered throughout the entire NT, and also do the same with the OT, as you can. When you have done this, you will know and understand more than you could ever dream possible. The dictionaries that go with these, will also give more examples. That 4 volume set, along with the Strongest Strong's, are your best books. Jay Green and George Ricker Berry's interlinears are also valuable. Get William Tyndale's NT and The Indestructible Book, by Ken Connoly next, and try reading all you can about The English Bible, and its history. Foxe's Book of Martyrs will show you the faith you need, and the enemy that we have, spiritual reality! Lloyd-Jones and Matthew Henry are your best commentaries, although puritans and reformers will help you understand justification/imputed righteousness and sanctification/imparted righteousness. Before you begin your reading journey, read The Person of Christ, by Andrew Bonar, about 115 pages. All of Grace, by C.H.Spurgeon is good too. Blessedness, is being 'in Christ'.

Personally o have always beloved that even if your not religious you should still read the bible and other religious texts. For one learning about the beliefs of others is a good way to understand them and get along better(or at least learn to tolerate them). Not mention you can be of any other faith or even an atheist and still find wisdom, inspiration and hope in religious texts. I also like that you understand that you need different translations of the bible. Many people don't understand that translating something from one language to anthor is not simple.

your library looks a lot like mine.. but yours is a bit more organized.... most of my volume sets are together... but I ran out of shelf space for a few of my bibles.. I have well over 200... many of the same ones you have... such as the Preachers bible.. the Allan bible and Schuyler... but I have a ton of good study bibles.. all translations.. I wanted to get Mac Arthurs Preachers bible in the NASB.. so that is one of my newer ones...I have commentary sets going back to the late 1800's.. which are getting harder to find now... but I prefer the first editions over the reprinted ones even though the material is the same..my Pulpit Commentary set is from the 1950's I believe... for the longest time my favorite commentator was Joseph Parker... I recently picked up a 12 volume set on Job written by Joseph Caryl.. in the 1600's.. a reprinted set of course.. I could find some scattered volumes of that but not the complete original set...I have a few other scattered commentaries.. that I could not find complete sets of for a decent price.. such as the Anchor bible commentary series by Yale.. and Coffman Commentaries.. but I have complete sets of Langes, Grays, Clarkes, Interpreters.... Biblical Illustrator... Preachers Homelitics...Tyndale, Barkley ,Ironside.. Communicators...Laymans... Barnes.. Calvin.....Poole...a One volume commentary by everyone from Zondervan to Matthew Henry and tons of others.. such as Arthur Peake...tons of Spurgeon's works.. and other bible commentators.. who I suppose were well known preachers... who decided to write commentaries on their own..I also have bib les like the amplified and the Message in my collection.. along with ones like The Voice.. etc....

my only question is what does one do when they run out of space in their library for commentaries and bib les.. I am about there already.. I really do not wish to start stacking books and bibles on the floor.. but I have no more room for bookcases.. and I was thinking about attaching some shelves to a couple small wall spaces I have free...HELP..!!..oh ....and about the Anchor series which I see you have a few...... I am up to abot 60 volumes of these.. I have to really look for the bargains.. I think the entire set has close to 100 volumes?.. and the other thing is on some of these... they have updated commentaries.. such as Ruth.. which one person did a commentary on and then 20 years later someone else is doing a completely different commentary on Ruth.. under the Anchor editorship.... this is going on with several of their originals now.. what's up with that?...

No prob. They explain the Scriptures. Every author or series has it's own unique point of view and focus, so I've noticed that value of commentary is in multiple commentaries. Some may focus on the original language more whereas others focus on how the Scripture applies today. I personally prefer the ones that get into language, background, and contextual explanation.

Ben Naughton -and then to answer your question, I got the NAC book by book at CBD. -I couldn’t find anywhere to buy the whole set (even by Testament).

@@davidleebrown3956 Ha ha. I've got vision brother. Right now I have the entire Word Biblical Commentary and random commentaries on different books of the Bible. I really like the NAC and used it a lot in college back in the day. My greatest find was the entire set of the Theological Dictionary of the New Testament at a garage sale for $2.

Spotted the Treasury of Scripture Knowledge in there. Have you used the New TOSK at all? I haven’t used either but have been thinking of getting one. Just not sure which to go with.

It's really sad that you only have one book. Having hundreds of versions of the same book, and then loads of books about deconstructing that one book all from the perspective of people who believe that first book to be divine, doesn't make you well read; it makes you dogmatic. I don't believe for one minute anything I say will ever dissuade you from your faith and I won't try, that would be insulting and disrespectful. The thing is; at no point did I see any critique of the bible in there. At no point did I see non-religious counter texts. I own multiple bibles but without a counter to test them, they haven't been challenged. I also own 'The God Delusion' by Richard Dawkins, 'Arguably' and 'God Is Not Great' by Christopher Hitchens, 'The End Of Faith' by Sam Harris, 'Breaking The Spell' by Daniel C. Dennett, 'Good Without God' by Greg Epstein and many more. Remember that the bible tells you that you should test your faith, if your beliefs are found wanting like you said, your faith is not yet truth; and honestly, if you've not sought out the writing of prominent atheists, you haven't tested your faith.

I wasn't a Christian till 26...before that I was an atheist. I'm well acquainted with the positions of those you mentioned...they're just not going to take up real-estate on my bookshelf 11 years later.

@@davidleebrown3956 that's great to hear for me, I am 25 atm and have been studying the Bible for a couple of years, but taking that last step to truly accept the gospel as truth is a struggle for me after being a materialist for so many years. Any advice on how you did it please?

my only question is what does one do when they run out of space in their library for commentaries and bib les..

I've moved into a different room and added two more shelves since this video. I suppose that's one way to do it.

@@davidleebrown3956 ha... yeah I was thinking of doing that... we have a spare bedroom that is a little bigger... I could move all the books from one room to the other... but the wife is saying that is her only "room"... I'm not sure if she would speak to me if I gave her a smaller room for what she considers "just a hobby" with me... she already shrieks everytime a book gets delivered as it is.. I have done some re-arranging.. and cleared off some space.. up on top of a couple of bookshelves.. that should give me enough room for about 60 more... maybe I need to start buying softcover editions? that would take up a slightly smaller space than hard covers..maybe......I have a couple other book cases that have some room on top of them... so that may give me a few more book spaces.. I'll need to keep a small step ladder in that room but they make foldable ones so that shouldn't be too bad...
