It's all about size equality. They usually pick a rather small mantis versus a very large venomous spider. In this case despite the venom, size was not an issue anymore.

Probably the best part of MBW series. They have chosen approximately equally big opponents, the cameramen and editors did not fuck it up - we could see everything, it was thrilling, no bigger flaw, finally thumb up!

Out of the 3 spider vs mantis fights I've seen, including this one, the spider won 2 times, and in these 2 videos, the spiders were far bigger/larger than the mantis, contrary to this video, so let's just say that in a spider/mantis face off, when both are fast, have a great reaction speed and have other assets in common (camouflage for example), the bigger one wins

usually mantises win over spiders. many of them are weak which depend on their webs to fight other insects,like black widow... but in this show, the spiders are usually strongest ones like tarantulas.

Mantids are used to kill black widow spiders. Unless it is some giant tarantula, or a spider hidden in its web, mantis is going to win with a spider of size upto 1.5 times its own

HEMI LOVER u are the idiont one,who just compares tigers teeth to spiders web. they are totally different,because teethes are parts of their body but webs are not. what i mean is, spiders have to walk on the ground to move to other places without their web,and in that situation,spiders can easily be other insects preys like mantids. but tiger always can make best use of them as their strong weapons and always stay strong i understand what u say a little,but you cant just compare the two.

Hendrik , I wouldn't go as far to say a tiny little glass box. But obviously it is in a controlled environment. The camera man would be eaten alive in a rain forest by creatures and insects sitting there for hours waiting on a confrontation that may never happen.

I would say the environment used here, replicates the natural environment as closely as they can get it. Has to be big enough for trees and plants to look authentic. Then set the cameras and lighting up and wait for the action.

I think there is two versions of this, I remember watching something almost like this and the spider won. I can't say for sure if it was the same Mantis but it was the same tree and same tactics. Very interesting.

I still haven't figured out what all the parts are on a mantis's mouth. I think it has two sets of independent-moving jaws stacked on top of each other plus four feelers and some other stuff. It sure works well whatever it is. They kill by eating you until you stop moving then they make you disappear completely. Amazing! They definitely eat you alive...
