Hello guys, welcome to my channel and to my reaction to the sixth episode of the third season of DARK.
Today, a desperate Martha looks for help, mirror Ulrich realizes when Helge did what, Eva sends her followers away and Adam makes his final (?) move..

The last 2 eps are incredible. Ep 7 is probably my favorite in the entire series, with the finale a close second, followed by ep ep 206 "An Endless Cycle". Those are my top 3 Dark episodes. I mean, they are all pretty incredible, but those are my 3 favorites.

This is one of my favorite montages. Love the music and how the scenes suggest the intro. Bloc Party - The Pioneers (M83 Remix) Breath in It's all under control All you need is time We promised the world we'd tame it A sense of purpose and a sense of skill, a sense of function but a disregard We will not be the first New frontiers Bloody head We promised the world, we'd tame it, what were we hoping for? It's not one of my favourites, because the song isn't necessarily as powerful to me as other ones in the show, but the montage itself is definitely noteworthy. It's a crazy one, because so much is happening that we can't really assess yet, with the mirror people on their missions and Martha's apparent death and the uncertainty surrounding it. Come to think of it, would be interesting to rank all the Dark montages and its songs. ^^

"I have no idea where we are going." That's the point. With all this time-travelling, the characters have gotten a lot of knowledge of what happened, happens and will happen. But for all this talk about "the cycle"... you have to realize that every single character still has only their own individual personal experience. They might have been told what will happen, they might have seen what will happen... but they can only experience it once. So every character - if so inclined - still imagines that things can change. To whatever end, they have hope that things WILL change... that THEY will change things. Or not. This is Adam's plan. By all that he has been through, by all that he has learned about all the things he has tried to change the cycle, and failed, and been lied to, by everyone including himself, only to find out that everything stays the same... he has come to the conclusion that the only escape is to end it all. Never start it at all. Remove the origin, and thus remove the whole damned cycle. That's his plan. Everything he did to keep up the cycle was meant to result in that moment where he could "annihilate" the Origin... and Martha. Everything before, he knew that it had been done before... many times because he caused it to be done. But at that point... he doesn't know what will happen. Again, as in every single point of his life, he has hope to change it. To end it. Because an end in terror is better than a terror without end. Eva is trying the opposite. Just like Adam, everything in her life was meant to keep up the cycle. To create the cycle. She send out her minions - including her nameless son(s) - to make things happen. Here we learned what this mysterious "incident" at the powerplant was. It was no accident. The Origin made it happen. Eva is going to destroy the two worlds, because she knows it happened, and because it happened, it will happen again. And she thinks that even a terror without end is better than nothing. She will cause the death of so many, just so that they all could exist at all... including her child. Who is right? Who is wrong? Does it even matter?

Season 3 (especially chapters 1 to 6) is like a whirling dervish. You spin around and around until you are move past Bartosz confused into a futility trance. The unknown at the behest of Eva essentially cause both apocalypse. The next episode and finale will clear a lot of the clouds. And it will all be worth it. Great reaction.

Episode 7 was such a great move by the creators. Tie up all the loose ends before solving the riddle and come to the conclusion of it all. 👌🏼 Glad you enjoyed it. :)

The alternate world Martha who "saves" the Jonas who gets killed then dips out to 1888 to give the older Jonas she didn't "save" the cesium then dips out to 2053 to learn the "Truth" from the even older Jonas (Adam) that she didn't "save" who then destroys her to kill the child of her and his dead other self before he is born in the belief that this will annihilate everything. Since there is a Jonas that was "saved" and a Jonas that just survived in his basement, what about the other Martha? We know about one other Martha, Adam kills her, but what about the other other Martha? From world 1 there are two Jonases: one becomes Stranger and Adam, the other gets killed by a world 2 Martha. World 1 Martha is killed by Adam. From world 2 there are no native Jonases, but two Marthas: one gets killed by Adam, the other kills Jonas. In all the loosey-goosey non-scientific use of God particles and dark matter, this doubling up of Jonas and Martha that kill each other so there is one of each left is strongly reminiscent of a matter-antimatter pair of virtual particles from actual quantum physics.

It concerns the whole world. But only in Winden people travel in time. If you're in an endless loop without time travel, you would never notice it.

Without time travel, you wouldn't be in an endless loop. ;) That's perhaps the most difficult part of this whole concept. Yes, people travel through time, and they end up being their own grandfathers, and thus "loop" or create a "cycle". But for each individual, time is still linear. They go through each second of their own life, one after the other, from birth to death. There may be other versions of themselves around, by that is not "them". That's the problem with the two main characters' plans. Adam wants to end the "loop", Eva wants to kepp it going. But this whole concept of a "loop" is based on reasoning... not experience. Neither of them has ever experienced the same situation more than once. Not in the same way... every time they did, they did it from a different perspective. So they are not in an endless loop... with or without time travel. They understand that such a loop exists. They might conclude that it shouldn't exist, that it is "wrong" - a "glitch in the matrix". But they never experience it.

4:41 I really would like to hear what you would tell after playing through the fourth Deponia game. Which obviously means you should play all four Deponia games. That being said at this point it seems like something is very off. Adam's timeline cannot be interrupted by his untimely death and see him grow old. It can only be one or the other... or neither, right? Then again if I may refer back to the Let's Kill Hitler scenario, imagine you successfully killed Hitler and averted the holocaust,, let's further assume that it was a one way trip and you live out your days in a better world... but then in current day of the new timeline you, if you were born, have no reason to go back in time and kill Hitler in the first place. So what exactly happens then? Is the original timeline restored? But then you will be born again in current day and have a reason to travel back in time and kill Hitler off. So you do that and recreate the new timeline in which you do not go back which again resets the timeline and sees you go back in time again to alter the timeline... Oversimplified we could assume that killing Jonas off might reset his own timeline while not killing him off does... something. It's been a while since I worked with this thought construct since it is replaced with something much more elegant later this episode and made pretty clear in the beginning of the next episode.

11:27 I am still not sure if Jantje and bo amde a mistake here or if they have Eva explain this wrong on purpose. After all both Jonas and alt-Eva are highschool drop-outs. That's why she uses the wrong term here to answer the question. And the explanation before actually explained the above succession of two different time loops as they would lead to each other as the "sides" of a moebius strip... which only has one side. The issue here is that applying quantum mechanics elegantly explains everything. Quantum entanglement does not answer the question at all but it finally explains why things happen similarly in both worlds. First off note that the aforementioned theoretical concept of many worlds is already taken from quantum mechanics. Quantum mechanics were developed to describe phenomenon that were disagreeing with classical physics and mainly revolve around the characteristics of (sub)atomic objects especially energy, momentum and angular momentum of such particles. But then again scientists would still like to generalize these theories to the macroscopic scale (and still make interesting findings there; I read an interesting article on the topic a while back). This leads us back to the Kopenhagen interpretation which over time has lost some of their followers but will suffice for the interpretation of what the heck is going on in DARK. If we for example think about atoms we probably think about the model we learned back in school. Concluding from this model we should be able to predict at any time where exactly an electron that is part of an atom should be, right? It circles around the core in a certain way, doesn't it? Well that is the point: the model is inaccurate and we cannot tell where the damn thing will be exactly. Instead we can only tell that it will be, depending of other factors, in certain areas around the core at a higher or lower probability. Only in the moment we measure a quantum can we be certain how all the characteristics turn out. What we should take away from this is that a quantum, a smalles particle, can take on different states. The many worlds theory at its core simply said that a quantum does not randomly take on a state once observed but instead each possible state would emerge in its own parallel reality. And only later some people took this and assumed that the same could be possible for a time traveller. So what we do now in DARK is that we assume that the same is true for two macroscopic systems: Adam's world and Eva's world. Equally we can apply this to all subsytems. For example Jonas who is a subsystem of Adam's world. So both versions of Jonas are different states of Jonas and the image of the two way the timeline can go makes it sound like they are alternating. So far so easy. What is interesting now is that we can equally assume that Helge and alt-Helge are also subsystems of our two systems. Eva explained in 1x02 that things turn out more or less the same in both worlds. Helge got almost beaten to death in one world so his alter has a similar incident in the other. And this is where quantum entanglement come into play. This describes the idea that two quantums share some sort of connection (that we are simply to stupid to understand yet) and that measuring one tells us something about the other. But this is exactly what we already apply to Helge: because he was attacked by Ulrich we assume that alt-Helge will be attacked by alt-Ulrich. The really, really, really interesting thing happens when we apply quantum mechanics to answer alt-Martha's question properly. "I killed him. How can he be alive?" He is dead and alive at the same time. Which means that Jonas is in two different quantum states at the same time. This is called quantum superposition. Yes it is a thing. I did not make that up. Somehow Jonas is forced into these states and Eva explains that the answer lies in the moment of the apocalypse... and the apple time machine... did we note already that the time machine looks like an Apple of Eden from Assassin's Creed? This is probably no coincidence talking about Adam and Eve all the time. More on quantum superposition later.

21:53 Hmm... not really. If we talked about the thread here again I would agree with you but the part of the myth of Theseus and the Minotaur (and Ariadne, remember that Martha played Ariadne) plays out in the labyrinth designed by Daedalus. Long story short, Minos became the king of Crete by asking the god Poseidon for assistance. In return he would sacrifice whatever creature would come from the sea. Poseidon sent him a white bull. But Minos decided not to sacrifice this bull but deceive Poseidon. Poseidon punished Minos by having his wife fall into a wild desire to mate with the bull. She had the inventor Daedalus design a device which allowed her to do so and the result was the Minotauros, half man, half bull. King Minos had Daedalos design a labyrinth that would be the prison of the Minotaur. Later when Minos had won the war against Athens he further punished them by making them send every nine years seven young men and seven maidens who were cast into the labyrinth to be slaughtered and devoured by the Minotaur. Finally Theseus, prince of Athens, came to Crete. Ariadne, daughter of Minos, fell in love with him and gave him a sword to slay the Minotaur and a thread that would lead him back out of the labyrinth.
