I also share some of my personal experiences such as:
Behind the Wire at Faslane and HMS Coulport.
My 2006 deployment to Iraq on Operation Telic.

Great video sir! I’m thinking of joining the marines once I finish college. But there’s one thing (amongst some other minor ones) that could potentially hold me back, and that’s the thought of putting my mother (and my family in general) through all the worries, and in the worst case scenario - all the pain if I die. And I don’t think she would understand what we were fighting for somewhere far away from home. And I guess my question is: what things should I do, or know, or consider before signing up Thank you for serving!
@MuscleWorld
@MuscleWorld 5 жыл бұрын
Hello thank you for the positive comment. You're correct - writing out a will at age 18 is a strange feeling! But if you're joining the Marines then there is a possibility you may one day be deployed to do what you train to do. Lots of guys just focus on the getting fit etc but there may come a time when you will have to earn your money! Best thing to do is find out as much info as you can and look at what you want to do before you decide if it's the right path for you to take. Thanks for watching

Bahrain...I remember that well. Can’t remember why we were there... haha another great video mate. I’m looking to join the Marines at the end of the year. I would like to specialise as a linguist, but also like the idea of the work of 43 Commando. Can you, within reason, choose which unit you go to, and which area you specialise in?
@MuscleWorld
@MuscleWorld 5 жыл бұрын
Haha, what I meant but didn't actually say (probably should have) was I went to Bahrain about 5 or 6 times and so I can't recall why I was there that specific time but I remember that occasion well because we got a few days in a fancy hotel and it was New Years Eve. Maybe different now... but on my King squad week we had to put down our top three drafts and most people got something they wanted. 43 was called FPGRM when I was in, I think 45 and 43 (and possibly RNR) have taken over some of the roles we used to do. Think they called it 43 because they used to take the piss because we were not called a "unit" . I enjoyed it though and felt the work was quite varied and was a lot of different things to do and I was rarely bored. The Base had good food, great gym, good accommodation, some really good running routes and I was usually abroad or on leave... I got attached to other parts of the RM such as for my first Iraq deployment, and then subsequently attached to the Royal Engineers as part of the battle group if I remember correctly. Thanks for watching mate

Thanks mate, yes - although it was called FPGRM then. I think 43, 45 and possible the RNR have taken over the jobs we used to do. Everyone's experience will be different. But I travelled quite a lot. I also had more time off than any other job I've had since (and a lot of guys just would go and spend a month in thailand on leave). But you're right I also spent a lot of time just hanging around, even when I was in Iraq we spent a lot of time just sitting around in a desert. From what I recall we were there one month before we even did anything. When you do work it's all out, but that's probably only about 5-10% of the time. After RM training, is the PT still high volume? Looking to serve but also take consideration on the west and tear on my body over time, wondering if the intensity is high whereby that’s the reason a lot of lads leave young… Any thoughts,
@MuscleWorld
@MuscleWorld 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, it's still pretty intense, some things are actually harder and more demanding. Not as full on all the time as recruit training though. For example in recruit training you don't carry as much weight in your bergen as a trained Marines does on exercise and especially not on ops, also you're looked after a little bit more in terms of safety as a recruit as the training team are keeping their eye on you. Whereas a trained marine on exercise and ops has to look after each other and himself. It fluctuates based on what you're doing, my fitness went up and down after training. But you're expected at any given time to be able to perform to their standards. I'll give an example of this, I had a deployment for 6 months, after that I had 6 or 7 weeks off. First day back after leave, we had a 12 mile run up the mountains at my Corporals pace to "blow the cobwebs out". I'd done no running over my leave, yet I was expected to keep up (I did, but it wasn't pleasant for me 😂). Hope this helps and all the best.

@@MuscleWorld Wow! It seems like in that run you found out a lot about yourself! haha, thank you very much for the reply, it means a lot certainly because I am trying to make the wisest decision for me, as I try to balance out all options. I would be lying if I didn't say I want to one day join SF, however, since the workload will be much more intense, I would like to try and limit any major exposure to overuse of my physical body prior to (hopefully) being recognized by SF to (hopefully) attempt selection. Sf would be the goal, I would like to train intelligently and slowly to build up my foundation so that its simpler on the day that I need to perform, I've already tested many of my limits in life, I feel like I can do anything I put my mind to, and have before, however I've also burned out many times. Cheers again, those of us who are inspired, have you to thank for guiding us to making better educated and calculated decisions!

I'd love to join the marines but my partner is training to be an observer in Royal navy. We've been together for 3 years already but what are the chances of us having time together? Is it likely that our relationship would survive?
@MuscleWorld
@MuscleWorld 4 жыл бұрын
You are likely going to spend quite some time apart, but that's going to be the case if he joins the Navy or if you join the Marines. Personally I'd say if it's something you want to do go for it. Your relationship may survive, it may break down, who knows. It may break down if your partner joins the Navy and you don't, then in a few years time you may be kicking yourself that you didn't pursue the Marines while he's been off seeing the world and you're sat at home. There's a million other possibilities that could happen, on the flip side you could both join up hate it and then leave or one or the other be unsuccessful for what ever reasons. When I was in the Marines I spent more time away but I also had more time off than I have had in most of my civilian jobs since leaving. Not sure if that helps matters, but thats my perspective on it, good luck with whatever you decide to do

After you complete all the training when can you go back home and can you get another job
@MuscleWorld
@MuscleWorld 3 жыл бұрын
Usually you pass out on the friday, get a weekend off and then you're in your unit on the Monday. After that you have a career in the Marines to serve which can last 22+ years if you want it too. Some people like me leave after 4 years or so. Most Marines I know who left have been very successful in what they have chosen to do. In fact I can't think of anyone who couldn't get a job (I struggled a bit at first, but that was mainly due to my own actions, being in a debt, being a big drinker, and also it was the recession, but I always found work). Hope this answers your question and thanks for watching

@@shaywelch9097 I can't say where you'd serve mate, Royal Marines deploy anywhere they are required and have been involved in all conflicts. The reality is you may get killed in war or even in an accident.

Everyone's different mate, have you checked out this? kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hLKYfdhzu9TXiIU.html this may be more helpful - I spoke to my friend who went through training at 16 and was one of the youngest to pass out at the time. This might be a really stupid question, but how did you get the photos on deployment? Surely you wouldn't be allowed cameras when deployed?
@MuscleWorld
@MuscleWorld 3 жыл бұрын
Not a stupid question at all! Some of these photos were taken from the work camera that we would use to take photos for intel. Some of the guys had personal cameras but not many, they would take them but with a wiped SD card. Phones or anything with personal information on would not be taken. Probably a bit different these days as everyone's got recording devices now so it may be a bit more strict, especially with images making their way to the press ! thanks for watching
