I was so looking forward to watching this show on its air date, and then a couple days before that date, my youngest brother was murdered. I couldn't watch at the time, but four years later, watched season four in an afternoon/evening. My brother's death, and this show, both hugely impacted my curiosity about grief process. Mine, and everyone else's. I work in hospice now. Thank you, Jimmy. Thank you, Alan Ball.

Wish I could attend a Six Feet Under convention. It never got the accolades or the appreciation that it deserved, but it was certainly heads and shoulders above the rest in terms of the acting talent and the discipline of Alan Ball and his team of writers. American Beauty is Alan Ball's David. Six Feet Under is his Sistine Chapel.

I really liked Nate, flawed yes but I truly thought he was a good guy with issues,but who doesn't have an Achilles heel.I believe he was searching for something that he just couldn't pinpoint,afree sprint who just couldn't get it together,he wasn't a malicious man. he loved the idea of love and serenity but everyday life was a struggle for him,but he kept on trying,in ways a bit naive R.I.P Nate.

I had mixed feelings about him. I really wanted him to be alone and not commit to any relationship, because I can kinda relate to his personality and I know how someone like him can make other people's lives miserable. So, I have to admit that I was not mad about seeing him die after he slept with Maggie. But that's why the show is so brilliant, it has some kind of emotion for every viewer!

This series was so well thought out and executed. The emotional attachment and withdrawal as the series came to an end - WOW!. I couldn't stand Claire, as the series began, because she was such a thoughtless shit. But, as her character developed and matured into an adult, she became my favorite character. Some people rave about the Soprano's final episode, and it was good for several reasons, BUT nothing comes close to the final episode of Six Feet Under.

Life changing. Not doctors and lawyers and cops, for a change. The fact that each episode starts with death, leaves that part out, at least in the conventional sense. I have always had great respect for those who handle our greatest fear, and how they orchestrate dignity, at a time that we may not be able to conjure dignity up. The people who give their lives to this profession, one that most people would , for obvious reasons, not ever take on, for any amount of money, can very easily be thought of as heros IMHO.

American Beauty was incredible. So when I found out Alan Ball was the series’ creator , I knew then ( even as a teen at the time!) the show would be nothing short of the same. My mother introduced me to the series back when it first aired and we shared many laughs together watching it. Her favorite ep is the one, early on in season one when Nate’s taking bong hits and freaking out because he’s not sure where Brenda’s Australian friend has been sleeping (the rolled up sleeping bag). LOL. My mom would be dead on the floor hysterically laughing ....good memories .

The most terrifying death is the middle aged woman who chokes to death but then lays in her home for 2 weeks. I would hate to think that no one would not recognize that I am not around any longer and I would be found dead and decayed with parasites consuming my earthly body.

About the time I got into this show, I realized one of my dogs was very smart. He always stashed food, and biscuits throughout the house. He'd "bury" them and brush imaginary dirt over them with his nose. I know what he was thinking......If this dude croaks, we're good for a few days until they find us.

The really scary part is unless someone is there to perform the Heimlich Maneuver on you, you could choke to death any time you are alone.
@guardiansanimalrescuestate7289
@guardiansanimalrescuestate7289 3 жыл бұрын
Actually natural burial is giving back to the earth. Families plant a tree or bush over you. You are still going to decay, even if u r embalmed and in the most expensive casket and vault. Slower.....yes. The only reason that embalming is necessary is when a body needs to be flown or a funeral is delayed. It was started during the war so families could see their loved one again. I think it’s so silly to spend thousands and thousands on death, instead of donating money to a charity, or giving to ones family to help them out. I encourage you to watch Ask A Mortician you tube channel. She talks so much about everyone one wants or needs to know. And she’s funny sometimes too. She has over a million subs. And so many no longer fear the dead thanks to her.

Someone said it is more than a show, it was an experience to them, and I could not relate more. I'm gonna ramble: I honestly separate my life before I watched Six Feet Under and after. I am so much better as a human being because of this show! I was a toddler when it came out, but I watched it post-college, lowest point of my life, so unsure what to do with it. And I still am haha, but now I'm okay with that. I treat every day like it's my last, and not only that, but the people around me's last. Six Feet Under gutted me, it made me laugh. Like bro the way people describe their acid trips to me is the way I feel about my viewing of Six Feet Under. It was THAT life-changing. lol seems melodramatic but I swear. We're all gonna die, and this show made me appreciate that fact. I am so glad that we are going to die. It's so painful, it's the worst thing you can ever ever experience when it happens to your loved ones, but it's what happens. And it's real. And it's real. And it is the ONLY thing that gives life meaning. We have to love each other before we're gone. We HAVE to! That is the point of everything, the meaning of life, and thank God to this show for making me truly truly realize it.

I wonder how Kraeer felt about the first two seasons. [*some possible spoiler alerts...] On Six Feet Under, there was a big corporate funeral business called Kroner that was driving all the "mom and pop" homes out of business on this show and then trying to buy them out. One major subplot in the first 2 seasons was about Kroner trying to buy out the Fishers. I remember a show from the 80's called St. Elsewhere about a hospital in Boston. Sometime before the final season, the small public hospital named St. Eligius was bought by a large corporation called Ecumena and privatized and the bottom line was prioritized over the patients. Due to the way the company Ecumena was portrayed as sort of villains in the show, a real company that bought out failing hospitals in the 80's called Humana actually sued NBC. At first, they tried to sue for defamation but I believe it was frivolous. They then successfully sued for copyright infringement even though the names were almost nothing alike except for ending in "na". After that, NBC was forced to run a disclamer before each episode the name Ecumena was mentioned. That lasted for a few episodes then they never mentioned Ecumena again. I wonder if something similar happened with Six Feet Under/HBO and Kraeer. It would not surprise me since the entire Kroner sub-plot basically suddenly disappeared near the end of season 2 when they suddenly went bankrupt which was only mentioned in passing by David to Nate.

This was is a truly riveting series. Very moving . Whenever I recommend it I always emphasize watching from beginning to end. The Book Flags of Our Father’s Describes the respect that family’s and communities have for the funeral directors and Morticians who with loving care and endearing empathy allow families and relations to mourn free of the duties to their loved ones that may imprint on their memories visions of their loved ones that are not fond. There are many videos and movies of burials and burials at sea . There are those of soldiers being buried during WW1 And other Wars . The photos of Civil war dead and the Reburials at Cold Harbor. One that stands out as very moving without a sad music soundtrack is the Burial at Sea of Loyce Edward Deen.

I think I’ve tried to talk about grief with my biological parents many times, they didn’t know how to start the subject, neither I. My age proceeded with time, but those dark moments accompanied with death didn’t. When I was a very young child, 5 maybe, my dad’s younger sister died from accident, later I was told that I had to attend the funeral. It’s not like any funerals appeared in the Six Feet Under, nor the traditional Asian funeral ceremonies that burning paper money. It’s one of the scariest moments in my life, those superstitious ceremonies, children wearing white clothes circling, being watched by grownups, compulsory staying in the funeral house several days.. I just don’t understand why grownups would expect young children to understand death in that way, it’s their fear and guilt, not the people who actually died. My grandfather, who liked performing ceremonies related to death(not just burning paper money that kind of simple), he called that “remembering the dead”, he performed those crazy rituals in his home, not once a year, several times a year, twice a year to cemeteries, children had to watch those shit going on, pretending grownups’ solemnity. He was a respectful man, despite he made all his children his puppets. My mom and my dad separated when I was 1 or 2, I lived with my mom’s parents many years when I was young, which was a conservative, rigid family. But that man, my grandfather, I don’t miss him. When he was being cremated, me and my dad’s family waiting outside, several times my dad turned his face towards me, observing my expressionless face, maybe he was thinking about why I didn’t look like as sad as others, cousins, nieces, relatives, those grandchildren he shielded, they were sad. I tried to be sad, I tried to be my father’s daughter.

And do you see any qualities in this show that would lend well to scholarly debate and discussion? The Daily Mail had a Oct 2013 story about Tyler Cassity's relationship with John Perez, then speaker of the California Assembly. A very unfavorable account of the Cassity family's operations. Mr Cassity accompanied his high-profile boyfriend on trips to meet British royalty, the Israeli president and other officials. The speaker also accepted a $1,000 donation from Mr Cassity, even tho it might have come from ill-gotten funds. Cassity's father and brother pillaged trust funds and insurance policies of hundreds of millions of dollars. I hope he came out of that vindicated.

DOES ANYONE REMEMBER HOW LISA DIED ?
@ricardozamora1696

Officially Drowned , but we can speculate hoyt might have killed her, back when nate came to see hoyt to discuss about the picture he found hoyt admitted to have a thing with lisa, she didnt want to continue because he was with nate and he implied something happened at the beach Later a few episodes before nate had a seizure arthur had en episode of irrationality due to his medicines and told him why didnt he kept diggin about lisas death i think it can be a little ambigous because there are flashbacks from nate perspective of lisa having negative thoughs playing a little bit with the suicide, she never felt loved, she knew nate was with her just because of her daughter and not because he loved her .. I think this isnt true, i think nate was able to loved lisa just at the end but it was already too late . Nate could never accept the fact that she might been suicidal or even with low self steem. Nate also told arthur what was the point if the only 2 persons who could ever tell the truth ( lisa and hoyt) were death , so IMO he just let it be at that point

No. It's good they didn't start forcing more seasons in and just ending it when the story was done. We don't need more "walking deads"

Mixed feelings about the show. On the one hand, the brilliance of writing, acting, directing was obvious. The story successfully revealed realities of American life, and help viewers experience death themes in new ways. On the other hand, Ball was clearly giving an ol' Hollywood middle finger to traditional America...a sort of "fuck you, now shut up and sit down." On the one hand, an exceptional series....the other, it left me more entrenched in my attitudes of psychologies of the gay life.
