The very best ending of any show ever. I watch the last 10 minutes of the finale whenever I lose perspective on life. When I need to remind myself to appreciate every minute of my life. It gives me a wonderfully spiritual boost to go out and LIVE!

My wife was killed violently in what now, is an often viewed plane crash out of Miami in 2005. Following her death I had no one but my two cats. I began watching Six Feet Under while grief was at its most raw, this was not intentional. A Friend brought the first episode on a DVD she'd checked out from the library. I was living alone with the cats on our recently purchased sailboat, a small confined space that added a sense of close intimacy with the characters. The show became a comforting friend in a way that no one else could. I related to the characters in a manners that is difficult to articulate. As if they were my extended family. The final episode has stayed with me ever since, as the Fisher family died one by one, I grieved for them, myself, Michele. It got me through the worst of what was the most excruciatingly painful period of my life. The series has stayed with me ever since, perhaps the best writing on any television ever produced. Thank you to all of the actors that brought their humanity to the characters, and especially the foresight of Alan Ball.

I love how dark the show was, broaching taboo topics other than just death. Personally I didn't adore the final sequence as much as most people seem to, I think it was almost a little too seamless in contrast to the bluntness of a lot of the show, but I appreciate its attempt at honouring this family that we came to know and love. One of the most powerful storylines I think was Lisa going missing - I think the show did an absolutely fantastic job of portraying the utter helplessness of Nate not knowing what happened, his life just stops. The way they showed "the waiting" which eventually became a loss of hope was just incredible television. As some of the funeral directors in this video said, you just don't know how or when grief is going to manifest. My father died about 2 years ago and I didn't cry that day or at his funeral but sometimes I'll see a dog and just lose it - in his later years he pretty much stopped speaking altogether but communicated a lot with his big soulful eyes, just like dogs do. The show does a really good job of the internal emotional journey and how people continue to connect to their dead loved ones.

I've never had a show completely draw me in like this. You feel these people. You feel like you know them. You know dozens of little details about each of them. They feel like real three dimensional people and you love some of them, you hate some of them (Brenda's parents) and if you suddenly found yourself in a long car ride with one of them, you could have a full conversation with them.

I hated that Nate died, even though he was a dick. But I think George of all people summed it up at his eulogy. “Nate struggled his entire life, to be a good man. He wasn’t perfect.” Before he died, he did Brenda wrong.

I understand. I mourned when this flawed character died. But I mourn more for the people in my life who didn't / can't / won't watch SFU for whatever reason. "I don't like that kind of show" isn't good enough. Please be open minded and be willing to watch a show that presents a different perspective. Even if you don't agree with the show's personal politics re homosexuality - or the characters' honesty in fully expressing an opinion about ideas that matter - then please agree to at least affirm this show's bravery. Integrity is one of the things that matters most.

I, too, am so lucky to also have a cherished boxed set of this pure masterpiece and timeless art, and you know, every binge watch I do, each episode reveals even more wonder, that I never picked up before, and when it happens, my soul sparks just that little bit brighter. Enjoy your binge watching, Lisa. Savour EVERY second. While this truly amazing series tends to resinate with those who have experienced a deep, deep loss, it also acts as a beacon. It awakens you. It questions........ while it gives answers. It is betrayal... while it is love. It is light... and it is dark. It leads..... and then it follows. It teaches. It inspires. It laughs...and then it cries. It falls apart.....and it also mends. It has order...... and it has chaos. And just when you think you are empty........ it fills you up with a new found kind of love and wonder. While it, ironically, deals bravely with death....... it has truly given me life.

By the end of that series I loved every character as if they were real. David reminded me so much a brother I lost at 26, who had a lof of David's characteristics. I could barely watch the carjacking episode and had to keep reminding myself not to call the cops or drive around looking for the van, because I couldn't handle the idea of anything terrible happening to him. The character David felt very much like a real brother to me, one that I wanted to shelter and protect.

My husband died very suddenly. When we came home from the hospital a couple of hours after he was pronounced dead, and I collapsed on the couch in sobs, I couldn't help but visualize our outstretched hands being forced apart. I gasped audibly the first time I saw the opening credits of SFU. I always had to see that part if we were going to skip the intro.

I was 16 when my mother passed away in 1999. My family was really shut down when it comes to the topic of death, it was something taboo that we shouldn't talk about to not make the living sad. This show helped me a lot to cope with grief and how to overcome it, but it also helped me to live. I felt really close to Claire's character by her personality, the taste for art and photography, and learning that it's ok to screw up sometimes, this is how we learn and grow. Six feet under had a huge impact on my life, when the show ended I felt like a part of my family was gone, I really loved the Fisher.

It would have been nice to see Keith and David live well into their twilight years together, wouldn't it! But really that's part of the fabric - everybody dies eventually, and while ideally we'd have a schedule and advance warning and plenty of time to enjoy decades with our loved ones, reality just doesn't work out that way. It feels cruel because we see it in the finale back-to-back with the other deaths and we know that David outlives Keith by several years, but look at it another way - they got to spend over 20 years together, they raised their kids and saw them become men, they got a life together, it's just that we didn't see the majority of it on camera. Just like with Nate's death though, while the stages of death and how it affects those around a passing differ from person to person, eventually David would readjust and manage to pull through the despair. The pair of them were Christian so they're both together after death anyway :)

i don't know why exactly. it just felt like too much. because with each episode the context of the drama surrounding the characters with the death made it interesting. but to have it all laid out like that was too much for me. they could maybe have left it to the viewers imagination in some sort of creative way. but maybe it was the mood i was in that day. i'm sure they must have toyed with different ways to end the show
