Happy Valentine's day 2021. Nomatter if you're celebrating or not, it's a challenge to go though the 14th of february without getting reminded of your status. I've been single now for five years, which means for most of my 20's, and in today's video I'd like to talk about how it felt different to be a single 22-year-old, compared to now where I'm turning 27 soon. I hope that you enjoy this long chat.

Keep being picky, Elise and never go for less than you really want. It would be better to be on your own and able to live as you’d want to than to just settle for something that doesn’t feel special x

I was the same as you, at 28 I was still single and had thought I was 'on the shelf'. At 29 I met my perfect man. We married at 34 and I'm 36 now and pregnant with my first baby. Yes I've done it much later than I liked and much later than my friends, but I found my perfect man at the right time for me. We're both older, know what we want and it's just a real proper adult relationship no drama etc. Everything happens when it's meant to. Don't feel sad, it will happen. Also I'm super jealous of you and your business, I don't have that! See the amazing things in your life that others might wish they had achieved ! Xx

True that!!! My daughter has no children, got married at 20 and is now 40, married to the same man. I never ONCE asked her when she was having kids. Her younger sister had one and decided they were done. Both girls have had people from their husbands family and others ask them. I think it is incredibly rude. Don't you think if someone hasn't had kids in 20 years of marriage they probably don't want them or can't have them? Either is none of your business. Asking someone when they'll get married is just as rude.

I am 66. Felt old at 18, so I got married to a gay man. Next time, I was 21, felt old. So I married an alcoholic. When I was 31, I thought my life was over, so I married a musician. There is absolutely nothing wrong with being single. I'm 38 been single again for about 4 years. That last relationship was with a narcissistic sociopathic abuser. That's not fully the reason why I am still single. I am a single mom of 2 kids. I work full time. I barely have time for my kids and myself. I have no extra energy to put into another person. Plus I don't have the desire or energy to deal with another person. I personally am very content knowing that I will most likely spend the rest of my life single. I don't even want to date. Everyone is different and everyone's life path is different. If you want to be in a relationship...just keep your standards and never settle just because you are lonely. I hope you find someone worthy of you!

Oh Elise, watching this video was like watching myself some years ago. I’m even a redhead, so that made the feeling even more intense 😂. Your story now was my story some time ago. In my thirties, all my friends married and starting to have kids. I felt so alone. I had no one to hang out with because they were too busy raising their families. I started doing new activities to meet new people and I did. Got a new group of friends, a little bit younger than myself, and I had a great time with them. Then, eventually, I met my husband, we got married and now we are trying to have kids. And I felt like you regarding kids. I never wanted to have one by myself, so that’s totally ok. What I’m trying to say is that you are young and have time. Don’t rush yourself to keep up with other people’s pace. Things or people arrive into our lifes at exactly the right time. I met my husband at 36, got married at 38 and I’m trying to have a kid at 39 and I woudn’t change A THING about how things happened and when, so keep doing your thing and everthing will work out. Regards from Argentina! 😊

i'm 27 and i've also been single for 5 years. Most of the people at work are married or in long term relationships and sometimes i feel like i'm the only one who doesn't have a life outside from work, which is a lie because even though i don't have a partner, i do have many friends, my cat, my family, my home and my desires to become a better person. We put too much importance into being in a relationship or forming a family, i've realized that i only want a relationship because i worry that people might think that i'm a loser or weird if i'm single at this age, not because it's truly a desire of mine.

Do not worry, the same questions are also being asked when you are in your late 30s too. ;-) Trust me. 27 is still a very, very young age, do not worry. And as for your friends, in case they will be distracted by kids, you will find new friends. One door closes, another opens.

Every Valentine's Day I watch "picnic at the hanging rock" - which is quite depressing, but I like it anyway. 33 and single, one year ago I was 32, single and with no friends... Pretty insane how things turned out, i never expected to have better relationships with random guys that i went to date on and say occasionall "hi" on the street than with my friends who i imagined being close to the rest of my life. Life is full of surprises. I can't have kids so it doesn't matter if I want any or not.

I'm 28 and single, I'm most afraid of losing my friends, but we somehow make it work, if we can't meet, we'll talk on the phone. Also I became friends with older couples and people who understand the struggles and frustrations about having children and meeting society's standard of what's normal. We'll make it work somehow, luckely we are not forced to marry the first guy that crosses our path like older generations, we get to build a life for ourselves, I'm grateful for this at least. I don't think you were picky necessarily, you were smart about it. You're a good and smart person, surely you'll find someone great.

And as someone of that generation, I agree completely. We had no choice of careers, couldn’t buy our own houses or get loans without male co-signers. Women today can build their own successful lives, and should, before getting married-if they choose eventually do that.

Don't worry about what society expects you to do. Having kids isn't an obligation just because you're a woman. More and more women and couples are choosing not to have kids and while some people might think that's being selfish, is it really? My husband Chad and I have been married for going on 26 years and we have no children. We're blissfully happy! We can go out at the drop of a hat without having to find a babysitter, we can go on vacation whenever we like, and we don't have to worry about being interrupted when we do things we enjoy doing here at home. Find a guy who will support you and what YOU want without question. He's out there..but never feel like you HAVE to get married and start a family just because others tell you that's what you should be doing. They don't have to live your life...that's totally up to you! :)

What helped me get my boyfriend: - not trust chemistry because it made me think that men are attractive with whom I played out the deatructive relationship with my dad - have 3 no go's and 3 musts (no smoking, no drinking, no drugs basically lol, and musts fo example sharing my environmentalist values etc) - realising I don't have to only date really breathtakingly handsome men haha since they turned out to be not great and their beauty made me feel inferior and made me behave in a weird way, childhood trauma etc, so I imagined kissing every guy and if I don't have to throw up, he's good and has potential haha - ditch the romanticized ideas of love we get from the media... - watch videos by Alan de botton - realise relationships take time and I can't possibly expect someone I dated for 3 months to give me the same level of commitment someone would give me after 2 years

It's so worth it to wait for the right person. Several of my friends are in bad marriages and you don't want to go through that suffering with Mr. Wrong. You are on the right path don't let anyone steer you off that path. It's important to know what you want so you don't end up stuck with something you regret and have to get out of. Its just that they are a little like you they want a good career, and know they can look after themselves. He left and decided to just call every now and again and barely sent money etc. He went on to get his Phd and advance in his career and invest in properties. Fast forward i’m 46 and my kids are almost grown. I’m living in poverty and just starting from square one. You are smart to wait to have kids and never alone. That was perfect for Valentine’s Day Elise. I always think of those who don’t have a partner on the day, and how it might reinforce that they are “alone”, but there are literally millions who are in the same situation. I love your advice of reaching out to single friends and acquaintances to just give them some reassurance and a little boost. I have two questions. What is your favorite, all time love story/movie? Mine is an older movie called “Goodbye Girl”, (MUST SEE EVEN THOUGH IT IS OLD!!!) and I also love “Where the Heart is” (Natalie Portman). My other question is what style of house is your dream house? I loved the two houses that you showed us recently, btw.

Yes, it's exactly as you're saying, the life has changed troughout last few years (I'm 27 too). But I think it's important to choose the partner well, so it can take some time. I wish you to find your perfect man soon ❤️, I just hope you won't stop filming. 😄 And the dress is gorgeous! 😍

Hi Elise, actually most of what you talk about is the truth. I myself watched as my friends that drifted because of relationships took place and kids. Not everyone is meant to be married, or even in a relationship. Also, children are not in everyone's future. Being 'Picky' is what some of us are really about. To me, if you can't see yourself with someone in 5 or 10 or more years....it isn't (at least I see it that way) going to last. Not wanting to go through a 'divorce', I am single and have been all my life so far. It isn't bad or good, it just is what it is. Some are not really meant to be married. If you like yourself and enjoy your own company and don't need anyone to entertain you, being single is pretty good for sure. Take care of you Elise and be 'True' to yourself. God bless you in all things. Society makes us sometimes feel less than we are. Wishing you all the best in everything. Sherry:)

Dane here.... I am 29. and i was in a relationship from 17-22. and back then all my girlfriends were in relationships and i became single and was left out of the group. I have been single since then. The first few years by choice, and the last few years, i was so open to love, but it just hasn't happened yet. I rejected 3 men over the years who i didn't like and i have been rejected 3 times as well. i was SO in love with a guy, who strung me along for a while. ... So i am freaking out a bit over turning 30 and still there's a long way to go before i can have kids and a husband. which is what i want :) ..... But i just had to adjust. think of it in a different way. Because you can not force love. I will NOT settle. I want to be in love and find my best friend. So ... here's to the future. However this future looks. P.s I understand the part you spoke about with friends who is in a whole other situation than me. My friends who are married now, with second and third kid on the way... those girlfriends kind of look at me like i'm a confused mess and a child or something. PURELY because i haven't found love. *REMEMBER LADIES* you are NOT any less worthy because you are single. Having a man or not, does not define you. don't ever let someone make you feel less than you are.. you are awesome.

You never know what you can do till you have to do it. You are a great mum to Luna, you would be a great mom. One day you will bump into that right person you can’t live without, just be sure to take care of things that a couple might do like savings accounts and buying a home. Don’t put those things on hold.

I totally feel you! I'm single too and planning on moving to a whole new place now that I finished my Master's. It's scary and weird cause I already feel pretty alone and "unsettled" all the time and now I'll be leaving the few friends that I have. My friends (even those that are living pretty "alternative" lives) are getting married too now. I'm one of the few people 25+ who is single and still running around trying new things like a crazy person. All the other friends I have who are doing more similar things to me are all like younger than me, maybe only 23 so not much younger lol but still. I also completely feel the same way about relationships. Only been in one, slightly-longterm relationship and I'm extremely picky. I want who I end up with to be THAT person too so who knows if I ever end up satisfied T.T XD

Remember that nobody is perfect, and it takes time to get to know someone. You have to agree on the basics, though. Family, Marriage, Children, etc. Don’t give up on love! Keep looking, but be cautious. Everything you say makes sense! There is a match for you out there, and he will be amazing! 💞

I'm 23 and already feel that separation and distance with my long life friends. I have been working and studying from home for the past two years so I haven't had much luck with making new connections. I still haven't had the experience of "getting wild" with the friends .... Oh my God. Those perceptions about marriage and kids are spread in all countries. God. You are a young and successful woman. Just do your thing and if the right person for you comes in your way that is fine!!!Dont stress it. I m sure that your friends envy you for your success. Don't minimize your standards just to be with someone. I m 45 never married because i couldn't find someone to share the same values. Being single you have only 1 problem. Being with someone that is not the right one you have a lot of problems. Just focus on your goals and if it comes it will come. 💖💖💖💖

I rarely hear those questions asked to any of my single male friends and it annoys me. Most of the times the question " are you happy?" doesn't even come up. People assume my live is incomplete because I'm not planning on having children. Bruh, do you know how much time free time, money and energy i have left to spend for myself!? Thats an amazing feeling of freedom to me. I am lucky with friends with the same mindset though. I understand it would feel lonely if you can't share this with people around you.

I think the 4 criterias you had as a younger woman were really good ones! It is really important to have someone who is going in the same direction as you are, IF you are looking long term. Chemistry and attraction is enough for fun and flirt ;)
