Life As A Violent Gambino Gangster | Howie Santos EXCLUSIVE Sit Down Interview | JoJo Corozzo

The Sitdown with Jeff Nadu

Күн бұрын

In this episode I interviewed an individual named Howard Santos. Howie grew up in Queens and as a teenager he became associated with members of the Gambino Crime Family including powerful Queens capo Joseph "JoJo" Corozzo. He would eventually learn the rackets of the mob, become a driver and work his way up as a successful earner and ultimate violent associate of the family.

Howie, I knew him from the after-hours. Howie, how come you didn't tell him about the murder of the pizza owner's son? I remembered the day he was trying to wiretap me. He set one of my buddies away to do more than 10 years. He said glasses were the only ones he ratted out. I remember when you were there at the Christmas party. You were wired, and you were talking to me at the bar. Luckily, I was behaving at the time and didn't say anything incriminating. Unfortunately, my friend was not so smart. I also remember the time you came to the bar after watching the fights, at Russo's. I remember him telling me about the electronic burglary. When I asked why he had a monitor on his ankle, at the bar. Thank God I left the life I was living. I moved away many years before but kept going back there. Now I don't go back. There Is no one left there, that's worth a good shit these days, anyway.

Mike, I didn’t kill the pizza owners son. Somebody else got life for that. And I never said Bobby was the only person I ratted on. He was the only guy I went on the stand for. Everyone else pleaded guilty. Who’s your friend who took 10 years?

I am half Puerto rican and Italian.. i grew up in woodhaven and ozone park durning the 90's and was in the mix in alot of things. We sold pot all over forest park in which was taught to us from the older guy from the neighborhood. Thats how it was then..i love your podcast. You have more facts in 1 podcast then 50 of alites. I would love to link up with you. I have some stories i bet you would love ❤️ to hear. All off record of course..😊
@Howiecw1
@Howiecw1 Жыл бұрын
To answer your question Beto D. You don’t have to be Italian to be an associate. But there’s three types or levels of an associate. If You pay protection or do business with or for a wise guy, you’re an associate. Then there’s an associate who’s on record with a wise guy. That would make that associate a part of that wise guy’s crew. Then you have an associate that hangs around. They hang out at the club or cafe ready and waiting for the opportunity to do something for or with the crew to prove himself as a loyal crew member associate.
@AristotleSanchez1000

If one guy owns completely legit business,with a made guy partner or investor with no protection money involved in the partnership is he an associate? And another guy runs a gambling den and pays protection or a percentage to operate.And another is "on record" with a member ,who has the most clout,protection,or power in what order?
@Howiecw1
@Howiecw1 Жыл бұрын
@@AristotleSanchez1000 The answer to your first question is yes. He’s an associate. As far as the second question. The crew member has more clout most of the time. But every situation is different. The crew members are always protected. But so are the people paying for protection. Usually the crew members are more valuable to their bosses. But every situation is different.
@AristotleSanchez1000
@AristotleSanchez1000 Жыл бұрын
@@Howiecw1 Thanks.I imagine the crew member ,ie guy on record is more apt to get asked to be violent when needed that the others. Who is more likely to one day get made,the guy on record who goes on occasional scores,or the guy making tons of money paying a percentage from a very lucrative sports book,etc.I imagine the one on record is the one more likely wanting to get made,while the independent bookmaker might be more likely to stay put and just pay the percentage or protection (which of course he may nerver get the protection when he needs it,except protection from those he's paying)

I remember playing hockey at 60 Park with Joe O'Kane (RIP) and Howie. We played on a tennis court, so we were always trying to check each other into the posts that held the nets. I think I still have bruises in my legs from O'Kane whacking me with his stick. This is why Jeff is the best in this business, he talks about the real players in the mob.

Great interview. You dont hear alot from this era of the mob. I think the reason a lot of people crititicize howie is doing it over 6 years . It doesnt seem like a lot of time.
@Howiecw1
@Howiecw1 Жыл бұрын
6 years is what I believed they would offer me on my commercial burglaries if I pleaded guilty. If I lost trial it would have been more. Plus there was the racketeering indictment that was coming behind it. A mandatory minimum of 20 on top of the six. So I made my decision to change my life and cooperate instead of rotting in jail.

@@AristotleSanchez1000 Sicily was part of Spain at one point just like Latin America was during the colonial era which explains why some of them have Spanish surnames while most have Italian surnames. what modern Hispanics and older Italians have in common is that they identify with their region of origin first because each region/country had their own culture but another thing that they have in common is that most Hispanics in the US are Mestizo which makes them dark complexed just like how most older Italians in the US were southern Italiano which also made them dark complexed as well along with paralleled experiences and paralleled efforts to become Americans while embracing their ethnic at the same time. the languages are similar because of their roots in Latin but the thing that connects Spaniards, Italians, The Portuguese, Andorrans, The Maltese, and Hispanics from Latin America is that they share the same ancestry from the Roman Empire during the peak of the old world. 🇪🇸🇮🇹🇵🇹🇦🇩🇲🇹❤️🇲🇽🇬🇹🇸🇻🇭🇳🇳🇮🇨🇷🇵🇦🇨🇴🇨🇺🇵🇷🇩🇴

Santos appearing on this show, of all shows, could stimulate some interesting Mobtube drama.

I just wanted to clarify something about the time I was facing.

As most would in the same shoes. If the future got better then who can reasonably blame that? Can’t say I wouldn’t cooperate if I was staring down a quarter century or more behind bars. Everybody says they’d never cooperate but it’s the easiest thing to say when having no stakes. Enjoyed the interview

Not many can differentiate the difference between the "Tough Guy Criminals" and the "Heartless Murderous Psychopaths" involved in organized crime. Howie's interview made that distinction very clear. Good Luck Howie.... Great Interview.
