Thanks for taking the time to listen to my rambling words! I thought little of the consequences when I made the sudden decision to learn how to ride motorcycles. Thankfully, everything about this hobby/ lifestyle and the benefits it brings has done nothing but improve the quality of my life and the people with whom I surround myself! What would you consider to be the number one positive affect that comes with riding your motorcycle?

Family health necessity put my sister and I on mopeds to 6 and 7th grade and beyond. High school I got a small 250cc, 2 days from the Army I got my 1st Harley. Riding wasn't a choice early for me...but it certainly has been one of the most important things in my life. For decades I didnt have a bike with a radio, and I got used to the time of "just me and God talking" and even now I sometimes just listen to the pipes and talk with the Creator!

I started riding motorcycles when I was 11 or 12 years old, a friend of mine had a Yamaha dirt bike that him and his dad would spend all day Saturday riding and one weekend they took me with and I got to ride for the first time. Little did I know that it would become something that I would continue to do for the next nearly 45 years. But my best experience ever was this past Sunday afternoon. After 35 years of marriage my wife finally agreed to take a ride on my motorcycle. We took a short (less than 5 miles) ride. When we got home as I was putting my bike away my wife came up to me and said "don't be surprised if I come up to you and say let's take the bike out for a ride"!

I'm now 66. Retired at 62, took a rider's safety course and got my motorcycle license. Learned on Honda Rebel 250 and found the clutching aggravated the arthritis in my left hand, so my first bike was a 150cc scooter. Well, went to a 250, then a 300, now on a Burgman 400, and absolutely love the Burgman. I feel so free when I ride. Wish I would have got into it when I was your age! Love your videos, keep them coming.

A feel this. At least how deeply rooted riding is for me too. I love just hearing my bike start it back fire down shifting cooking up to a light. My favorite thing in the world is a beautiful day riding. Good weather great sunlight. Nothing's better than that for me. I look at every motorcycle that passes by and try to catch a glimpse through the window when I hear the bike coming down the street outside. Learning how to work on em. The whole thing is so great

I recently got into riding a few months ago, I went into riding really on my own knowing no one around me really had any interest in motorcycling, it has absolutely changed my life in a positive way, it's like I go to a happy place when I'm riding, cruised along the blue ridge parkway this past weekend, I've had a lot of bikers just come up and talk to me about my bike at a gas station or a stop light even, it's really something I thoroughly enjoy and I didn't know how much I would until I took the msf course last August.

I started riding in 2008 at the age of 42. I always dabbled in the sport. I rode a Moped, yes, a moped to school and to work for a few years in the '90's and then .... kids. Since getting motorcycle license my world has changed. My wife now rides as well and we go on a long trip every Summer. We have done the Tail of the Dragon, the Bourbon Trail, ridden to Sturgis and back and we have ridden the Blue Ridge Parkway and gone up through New England. The experiences have been amazing.

I rode a 106 Allstate (Sears sold them ) to drivers ed summer school so I could get a drivers license when I turned 15. Wasn't my first bike. When I was a young kid my dad had an old meter maid Harley. He drove a truck. I hotwired the trike when he was on the road. Pull the choke, kick it a couple times, push the choke in and kick it again. I think I put more miles on it than he did. I'm 66 now. I been riding a Goldwing Aspencade. A classic. Love that bike. Last few yr's my legs started giving me trouble. Yrs of work and a few dirt bikes didn't help I guess. Some people would have just stopped riding. Me? I bought a trike. Riding is more addictive than any hard drug. You live for it, and sometimes. die for it. Never would I ever dream of living any other way. I wouldn't know how to act.

I've been riding for 37 years and always enjoyed it, but it wasn't until I started riding long distance and camping off the bike that it became such an obsession; there's no better feeling of freedom and independence than riding for a week and having no idea where you'll be spending the next night but knowing (or hoping) that a campground will appear before it's time to stop for the night (planned stops are good as well); not sure if this will ever get old, but as long as it excites me and I'm physically able, I will continue. Thanks for the videos! Ride on! Stay safe!

My first day of school I was taken by my dad on his motorcycle because I was scared of school and teachers and he knew that would make me want to go. The principal was not impressed lol. So anyway, I grew up around them. It never once occurred to me that a husband would try to tell me what to do but that's exactly what happened. He wasn't having it. I started riding at 14. I’ve never owned a HD. I raced American Flat Track and Road Racing for ten years. Competed in Hare Scrambles and Enduros. My son was motocross state Champion in Texas at 11. He start riding at 4. He’s now 41 and I’m 68. The time spent with my son racing and traveling I wouldn’t ever change. We both now ride Adventure motorcycles and travel doing off road adventures and have for years. You like to moto camp. Adventure motorcycles allow me to travel to areas few ever do or never will. Imagine riding for an entire day or more without see anyone else. Camping, cooking and continuing on the next day and the next. Not just Ohio but other states and Canada. There is a group called the BDR Association, BackCountry Discovery Route Association. They have mapped out routes in the Eastern and mostly the Western parts of the US. KZfaq has many videos of different BDR’s. Some are tough and others not so. Look into it. This could spark a new interest. Oh! Check out “Itchy Boots” Noraly Schoenmaker on KZfaq. See is your age, rides in some amazing places with some great videos. I look forward to your next in between my own rides. Ride safe.

Great video, Jess! Yes, I have to say motorcycles changed my life too, back in 2006, when I first started riding; to 2010. I really got into it right away, with it being therapeutic and relaxing. I rode alot, and I rode far too. Unfortunately, I had no way to record any of those experiences on camera back in those days. I didn't know anything about video cameras, much less video software back then; I just figured it was all too expensive. I have enjoyed riding motorcycles throughout my life it’s the one thing that clears my mind and relieves stress. I’m now 69 years old have a 2014 Road King and I cannot imagine the day that my body may say ok dude that’s enough. But as I speak I’m feeling fine and see no end of riding in sight. Tech "internet/social media" has really changed things. Even coms on a bike has changed how people enjoy motorcycle riding. For years now I always practice taking part in "local flavor" when visiting a destination on my bike. I ask. "Where do the locals hang out and eat". I avoid chains of any kind when on a motorcycle trip! Also I try and avoid interstates. This puts me on the back roads. Oh yea I began riding when I was in the Navy. It changed my life. Mandy, just do it. Start out with what you think feels ok, even if its a scooter for a few months or so to get the feel of riding in city traffic, etc. , then move up to say a 250 cc when you are more confident, and then go get your class 6 when you feel ready. When that day comes, and you are riding the open road along side your Hubby, you both will know freedom. Stay Safe !

Millions of Americans ride everyday and perhaps some may even take it for granted. Unfortunately, i wasn't introduced to motorcycles when i was younger. Now I'm older and I'm into many different things. Too many hobbies lol, but i feel that i would really like to learn. Hearing how you described ur experience reinforces that very same thought just go do it!. I did purchase my 1st bike, but it was stolen. 87 Suzuki Intruder 750. Been riding for less than a year and haven't met anyone else to ride with yet, but the journey has taught me a lot about myself and really has been such a joy so far, even when it's been scary. Went on the highway for the first time yesterday - was pretty intimidating and sometimes I felt like I was holding on for my life (zero wind protection on a naked bike) but still an awesome and happy experience after a tough week
@Yamahog
@Yamahog 4 жыл бұрын
Kim, I ride a Yamaha Bolt just over 72 miles per day at 60 ~ 70 mph , weather permitting or not, and the best thing I can tell you about the wind on a bike with no ferring or windshield is 'lean forward into it.' just enough to stop the helmet buffeting. If the road is bumpy and it causes you stress because the bike "jerks" from throttle-flexing " when you get bounced, then do this .' Grip the throttle with your thumb, ring finger and pinky, and rest your first and middle finger on top of the brake lever.[ or just your fore-finger if fingers are long enough. apply the same light down-force to the top of the brake lever so that your wrist won't twitch when you hit a bump at 50 or 60 mph. The beauty of this is, when you need to brake... your hand is in position, all you need to do is squeeze. Try it out on a straight road section at say 40 mph , and see what I mean about the increased throttle confidence. then at a faster rate over light bumps. It might feel gooney at first, but you will find your comfort zone with the concept. And it stops you from gabbing a "fist-full "of brake when you only need to 2-finger it, to stop properly along with the rear brake in check. Stay Safe and Ride on W
@Yamahog
@Yamahog 4 жыл бұрын
Ok, Helmet buffeting is the wrong reference term, .... lean forward about 5 degrees so that a blast of air from a passing semi , doesn't feel like its going to rip you off the bike . And now a Novel ... lol..... just some bantering from me that you and the rest of the group might find intriguing or have some relevance to life, which I had last Friday ....... .... while I'm on the Semi issue . this bodes for single lane both direction highways, ride the line between lane positions 2 and 3 when riding the highway at 50 or 60 mph..That's the safest place to be in case you have a passing Cager headed towards you, but still allows you time to move out of the way, and also allows you to be seen from cross-road merging cagers, so be ready for them. And..... the Semi will create a vacuum under it and behind it which can pull a light bike into the traffic that's behind it IF you are too close to the centre line...... Not a good thing.... So habituate the line between lane positions 2-3 when on the highway when it's a 1 lane both ways. And Now ..... What I had fun with going Home on May 29th 2020....... Almost a novel, but might be fun reading....... So this thing that happened to me last Friday..... Coming of hwy 97 C onto 97 A .I got into a speed zone of 100 KPH , ( 60 mph), and I'm going down the straight in lane position 2. So 1.5 miles ahead I see a semi coming at me. So for safety I move to position 2-3 , ( road has tar patches all over from truck traffic, positions 1 and 3.....), I'm thinking no wind-jammer on this Rig maybe. ( think of the air blast you get from passing by a semi at 60 mph or better.... BOOOOMFFF, lol ). I then notice at a distance on about 1/2 mile , the Semi has now 3 Headlights, .... lol . A biker is passing coming towards me . I check my 6, no one is behind me for at least 3 miles , so I go to position 3. and sped up to 65 mph. He's on a 125 or 250 CC trying to pass a semi doing 65. I'm now grinning to my max level .When I got to him , he was still broad-side of the semi's cab , just a gum-booting his throttle . He passed me in my lane position 1, ( all good ), and I passed him in my lane position 3 . But I had to mess with his mojo ...... as we started passing each other ( remember my curve leans left here... ) I Gave him a -5-low as I pass him, ( the biker wave you see left hand out at about 20 degrees from vertical ) . So anyway , He didn't fray the moment, he was dammed determined to get around the semi..... He did good , but I think he is seriously thinking about a larger ride now .... lol. I had my fore finger on top of the brake as a lock and We passed each other with 5 feet between us at a relativistic speed of 130 mph, ( 210 kph) I guess he was thinking " wtf am I doing "., ( remember that semi's create an under-tow windage, so while trying to pass the semi the air pressure is trying to pull the bike under his rig..... as soon as we passed mid-trailer , he was over in my lane 3..... , He learned about Semi's that day and won't do it again, at least not on an CBR 250. I didn't flag him to approaching cars as the 3 miles behind me were empty.. He was safe. Kim keep away from the cross wind of semi's , ride lane the line at position 2-3 Keep alert !! Stay Safe and Ride on. W

My wife and I are planning a cross country, coast to coast, ridecation. I can’t wait. The only negative is the fact that corona has kept us from doing it this year. I think we’re going to need to wait until next year to make sure all the stuff we want to see and do is open. Right now, it isn’t.

I've always been a fan of bikes, and I tried to get my license about 15 years ago, but failed. Then I didn't have the time, nor the fundings to give it another go, until last summer. Then I went for it. Got the license on a Wednesday, Thursday I went out and got my first own bike. Best thing I've done. Ever. Thank you for sharing. Always enjoy your content.

I have been riding since 1966 on and off. I took a break from 1983 to 2003 ( kids and stuff). My daughter rode on back with me for a few years til my son died due to motorcycle accident he had in 2007. She told me you are done to, I said no and rode even more. I still love riding and will continue to. I have had about 15 bikes mostly Honda's sometimes I have had two bikes. Now I have my second Harley, but just one bike. Thanks for your Posts.

I was18 when I first wanted to get a bike. I had terrible anxiety up until 30. I lost that much of my life not doing what I wanted to do. I finally got some help and started riding. Started small on a 125 and after 2 years I went in and passed my test. Now on a 650 but itching for a bit more power. I'm now a completely different person who loves life and gets out there camping with my wife or solo. I've watched a few of your videos now and I can relate to alot. Keep it up 😊☺️😀

love your newfound passion. got my first bike in '74, a rigid pan (which i still own) and have been riding ever since. never was much of a distance rider, but did get to sturgis in '79. rode from chicago, it was a quick 6 day trip. now that i am retired, and living in NC, i do have plans to explore more on my bike (99 softail), so if you ever find yourself heading down this way, it would be my honor to buy you a beer and a tank of gas. maybe i'll see you in wauseon next summer. put it on your list of events to attend....anyway, keep it between the ditches and ride free....

I certainly can understand lone riding. Riding with a friend is cool, depending on just how loose they are regarding a destination or a time frame and compatible riding styles. I've ridden with a half a dozen guys and I've ridden with hundreds of bikers on fundraising runs. That is a major chore, believe me. Your primary concern is watching out for hot dogger riders and simply more opportunities to go down. Riding along is often cathartic. I used to love riding to work in the dark, early morning hours and then looking forward to the ride home. I found that wearing a full-face helmet added to the sense of peace, as well. Now, if I could just find a ground of lady riders to adopt me into their group. Lol.

I turned 50 this year. I got my first street bike at 14 . Before that I rode minibikes and 3 wheelers . There were always make role models around me who lived the full biker lifestyle. They were part of the local club scene . Most of their lives they never owned cars . They kept vehicles usually a van for their wives and kids and thei club would have a pickup truck that could be used to run to places like hardware stores and lumber yards for those weekend projects and of course to go rescue club members if they had bike troubles . I keep a bike , usually something I have built and currently my bikes have a sidecar for my dog to ride with me. My current fleet consist of a pickup truck, a tool van and 3 motorcycles . This doesn't include the vehicles that belong to my "Old Lady" . Even though I have taught her to ride and one of those motorcycles was purchased with the idea of being her first bike she'd rather ride on mine . We often ride with a group of expats that have left other clubs. She often drives my tool van for these events . Most of us ride vintage frankenbikes and sometimes need a little attention along the way.

My business partner and his wife got killed while riding (not their fault) but it changed my life. I had a 50cc Vespa to commute to work before that. Now I have a HD 2018 Iron1200 and a Indian Chieftain 2018 Limited with a 116 upgrade. I rode some local day ride and did some overnighters to start with but 2018 I rode 3500km by myself from Brisbane to Echuca (Australia) and back 3 days down and 3 days back 2 different routes. I visited some great friends. Then in 2019 I rode 7700km on a 18day trip with some great guys from Brisbane to central Queensland to Mt Isa to Uluru to Port August (south Australia) then across to Broken Hill and through Northern New South Wales back to brisbane was awesome. This covid19 situation has given me time to only look at the opportunities in my local area that needs to be explored or give me the short break always and the impetus to do so. My power to you and I too love to ride alone and be free to stop when and where I want to but also ride 200kms or 600km in a day - I choose. Freedom and the joy of being a spectator to all that is wonderful around me. Ride safe and ride often and smile while you’re doing it.

Motorcycle has change my life like it has done for you.. On my 34th birthday I decided to take the Harley riding course.. I even dropped the bike twice during the class.. I didn’t want to buy a bike. I just wanted to say I could ride a bike. My dad has had a bike for a long time but now can’t ride due to health reasons...I have no one to ride with.. no friends that ride.. but I came across a sportster at a great price ... rode that for two years and as of last month I just bought a 2019 sport glide. I love love to get into moto-camping but again... no one that I know has a bike nor likes to camp... I live in northeast Ohio and would love to do a road trip to Columbus for a meet and greet some day.. FYI. YOU and #blockhead are the best KZfaq out there.. keep up the great videos...

Very nice thank you! 1975, just got something together to commute on, no interest in bikes at all at that point, was trying to get a car license, so this was merely convenient transport (in those days you could just get a provisional driving license, 'L' plates and go out on the road). But, got hooked, and always had at least one bike ever since. Definitely a Sliding Doors moment. 😁

Been riding since 2007 and didn't know many who rode. I'm kind of a loner anyways, but still would have been nice to have people who understood riding to talk with. My son started riding when he went off to college a couple years ago, with my wife and my happy approval. Now he's home and doing school online so we go on rides often. It's great! In casual conversation with my daughter the other day I mentioned scooters to her because she showed interest in the past. She said she would be more interested in a motorcycle. I was smiling inside. Plus it's an excuse to get a small starter bike to add to the stable. She just graduated high school and is going to college. My wife never started riding since the kids where still dependent on us, but hope to get her started too!

Don’t you got motorcycle clubs in your neighbourhood? Here in Denmark, Europe we don’t have a long distance to find a local motorcycle club. It’s very easy to locate a club that suit your needs. Do you want a “gang-oriented” kind of club or a touring club. Do you want to go on a trip with singles only or the members of your local club? It’s all arranged on facebook.

So many things you talked about you doing I have found myself doing also. Which I see as so totally cool! So far since I bought my bike, IF I leave the house I am on the bike. Rain or shine, the only thing that has forced me to not ride the bike is taking the oldest daughter to work. (No rear seat). How ever I do not have friends, so I just stay to myself and do not bother no one. But it is nice when others notice me. Alone is safer for me, at least in my mind. Because I bet I can rank really high on Shadtree Surgeon's weird list. LoL!

None of my friends ride, but I've been enjoying going out on my own. My family rides, but I was never really into it, then suddenly for whatever reason I needed one. A lady I worked with had some very severe depression issues for years. At 62 yrs old she bought her first motorcycle and started riding and even doing long trips. That motorcycle cured her depression while she was on it and that made her a completely different person one that was even fun to be with. Her motorcycle was the only cure that ever worked for her. Her riding ended with a suicide. very sad but motorcycles can make you a different person.

You hit it spot on, Jess, Riding is as addictive as, (per se), heroin. I ride 72 miles a day when I can... to work and back along the highway. ( March to October...) And the biggest kick I get still is the comradery that you feel when you blow past someone at 60 mph on a curve while giving them an arm out " low-five" wave . ( the throttle secret to that is - rest your first or middle finger on the brake lever-to act like a throttle lock ). Try it while going straight, eyes forward, and see if your speed lurches when you hit a bump or a dip in the pavement.... the finger(s) wont let you lurch your speed on a curve or a straight away.....It might seem gooney at first, but like you showed Mom the revs trick for clutch on a hill, you will garner your own method. The other kick I get, is when on the highway, somehow I end up in a group sometimes with 4 or so other single riders, group up,( instant group ride), and we just ride on through like nobodies business and split off where we need to. Or you get caught in a thunderstorm, and you head to the nearest underpass to wait it out, and there's more bikes there. and instant comradery, etc. Ummm, what else.... Oh yeah . Loud pipes do save lives, especially deer and bears. :)). And now that you admit your addiction ( lol ), ... well ... a belated "Welcome to being an addict that makes you need to wear thick skins and a bump helmet to be allowed out on the streets.... LOL. really, that should read "Welcome to being Free" Stay safe and Ride on W
