William Wordsworth was an English poet who is considered one of the most important figures in the development of English Romanticism. He was born on April 7, 1770, in Cockermouth, Cumberland, England, and died on April 23, 1850.

The poem "To a Skylark" is a joyous celebration of the beauty and power of nature, and a tribute to the lark's soaring song. Wordsworth is addressing the bird, urging it to lift him up into the clouds with its song, and praising its mad joy and divine inspiration.
