This video aims to bring the poems "A Red, Red Rose" and "Ae fond kiss" from Robert Burns, to life. Robert Burns was a Scottish poet and lyricist who lived from 1759 to 1796. He is regarded as the national poet of Scotland and is celebrated worldwide for his works.
A Red, Red Rose" is a romantic poem written in 1794. The poem is a beautiful expression of love, using natural imagery to compare the speaker's love to a "red, red rose" that has just bloomed in June.
"Ae Fond Kiss" is a romantic poem. The poem is a farewell message to Robert Burns beloved Nancy McLehose, with whom he had a passionate but unconsummated affair.
The poems in this video are narrated by James Smillie (an award winning voice actor). We took care to edit the audio as perfectly as we can. It took us months of learning before we were able to edit the voice like this.
The video was created by Dream Editing. This is a very iterative process and we test out a lot different footage to give you the best viewing experience. We try not to distract from the poem itself.
