Sometime I find your videos not long enough. In a busy life where everything seems to be instant or fast forward, it's good to sit back and watch one of your videos to unwind. Your brutally honest, and step on toes at times, but that’s what draws me to the down to earth formate of your videos. Keep up the good work.

I started mowing lawns and splitting wood at age 10. I showed up on time, didn't complain, and I have never struggled to find work wherever I moved. I often turn down work because so many people, especially older folk, need help around the property but I cannot do it all. As a young man in my 20's, it is so sad to see my peers trying to intellectualise hard work and satisfaction. At 24 years, I now own a small piece of land outright, built a cabin by hand, and can afford to enjoy my life as I prepare for my next professional endeavor. Handyman and labor work is not what I want to do forever, but I am infinitely a better man for it. Thank you Cody (and family) for all you do and the advice and wisdom you share. There are hardworking young men and women out there in the world, but we are increasingly hard to find. Like the WW2 generation, I feel like I am among a dying breed. Tusen takk.

Cody, very interesting comment you made regarding the computer software intern guy. After serving my apprenticeship as an Engineer I worked for a company who fabricated large bridges and cranes. It was always a major event when these structures were rolled out of the workshop and made ready for delivery to the customer. By viewing these structures you gained an extreme sense of pride that YOU personally had contributed to this event. Eventually I moved jobs where I became more office bound and lost that feeling of seeing the fruits of your labours. All I used to see was a critical path project programme which was just a series of lines on a chart, not quite the same as seeing a finished structure. Best wishes from Nottingham U.K.

I can totally appreciate the story. I'm a professor and all day I spend time writing papers & grants, generating and analyzing data, and teaching students. The teaching part is my favorite, but so often I look back on the day and I haven't produced tangible outputs with my day's effort. That's why I have to have projects on the side to allow me to have tangible products for my efforts. that's the reason I started a KZfaq channel. Not because I am an expert or ever expect to get a million views or subscribers, but simply because I need to produce something tangible with my time. Thanks for sharing.

I don’t understand why people think a video is too long. I would rather hear a story and see the end of a project. Even if it takes 30 minuets. And if I don’t have time to watch all of it, it is sitting there waiting for me to finish it later. Great video. Keep up the good work.

Two quick tips: I’ve used the grabber (1800 lb max load) for decades to assist in skidding out logs from the Oregon woods. I purchased 150’ of 5/16” braided stainless cable with pressed eye on each end. Now using chain to attach the log to the running end, it gave me enormous retrieval options for incorporating snatch blocks or choking up on the slack and larding out the tree without ever bind up or bending my wonderful cable. I just attach the cable grabber to my tractor or pickup with a small length of chain and can easily extract enormous timber from otherwise difficult terrain for harvesting or bucking. Lastly, plasma rope, as you mentioned, won’t store more than a few percent of energy, it’s safe to handle bare handed, retains excellent strength even when it gets “fuzzy” and floats. I have witnessed some terrible accidents as a result of metal braided wire snappy on winches and heartily urge plasma rope use on all winches. Great job with your videos and for living your code and your faith.

I am one of those "firewood guys." Sure, I sell it to supplement my Social Security retirement, but it also keeps me physically fit. Further, if I hear of someone who burns wood, is nearly out, and can't afford to buy any, I'm happy to take them a load; nobody goes cold on my watch. Most of them never even know my name. It's truly a great feeling to be able to give someone a hand up. You're absolutely right in what you said about helping others whether you know them or not.

Really? Former First Lady of the U.S.A, former Secretary of State for the U.S.A, wealthy socialite with connections throughout the business and political realms around the world, was/is a major figure in the modern female empowerment movement(I have mixed reviews on that stuff myself) and her name is known in almost every home in every corner of the world - for good or bad. If that is failing at life then son, EVERYONE fails at life. You may not like the life she has lead but she's been at the top for most of it, and she did in fact work for it and earn it and put up with insane levels of bigotry against her to do it. Even with all the bullshit and conspiracy theories and outright unbridled hatred lobbied against her she still won the popular vote(pathetic turnout in general of course), is that why her haters are so obsessed with her still so long after the loss? Can't stand that even after her humiliation of losing to Trump she's still far more successful than any of you ever could hope to be? Insecure men that fear powerful and successful women in charge are hilarious.

Cody, way back in 1966 my parents allowed a pulpwood company come onto our property and remove over 100 Alabama Yellow Pines. These trees were an average of 20 years old. They took the trees and left all the big branches, tops, and stumps. My dad bought a 36-inch bow saw and told me to cut everything up to 12-inch lengths. I (14 years old at the time) grudgingly started cutting them. When Dad got home from work the next evening, he saw how little I had done so he told me why the length was so important. I was cutting these up for one of the widows at our church to have for her fireplace to help her save money during the winter. Her fireplace could only accommodate 13-14 inch maximum logs and he knew I would cut some over the 12 inches he had said. Yes, I was very happy to see the last of them cut and those that required it, split. Another church member came over and we filled his truck bed 3 times with all the wood I had cut. It went from being a chore to being a grateful task.

That rope looks like Amsteel Blue, by Samson. 3/8 size has a rating of 19,000lbs, but the havens grip will probably break it around 5,000lbs. Tying knots also significantly reduces the breaking strength. A figure 8 descender works well for midline attachment on Amsteel, and will preserve the breaking strength. A steel rescue 8 would probably be best for this application. Steel chokers work a lot better though, as well as being cheaper and more durable.

As a retired computer programmer/system administrator I have experienced both end of your analogy. I have written a long, complex code that was buried in much larger programs that may have taken years to "see the light of day". I have also written short very short programs to help me quickly/easily complete a task that was immediately at hand. Both were satisfying to me, because the big things resulted in automobiles and truck meeting emission standards and getting better fuel economy and even though much of that was over 30 years ago THEY ARE STILL ON THE ROAD TODAY ! The short ones, were very satisfying but may have only been used once or twice and thrown away,

So? That says more about you than it does him. He already has 15,000 views climbing fast. You think he cares if you come or go? The word is way overused but you are a true snowflake. You are so intolerant of that which you disagree with you just melt away.

The impulse to apply the loser label to those who supported a loser is tempting, Then again when it comes to politics we all lose if we are more concerned about the car wreck instead of keeping focosed on the road to get to the future we work towards.

My grandfather and I would deliver medical supplies to people in need (beds, wheelchairs, walkers, crutches, etc.) around our town. All items donated to the Masonic Lodge. It was very rewarding helping everyone and a memory I will always treasure.

Shackles usually have threaded pin like what he is using, and clevis usually has a pin with a cotter pin as a keeper . In my United States certified rigging manual that is the explanation, so Shackle would be the proper term if they gave you a test. but maybe in other parts of the world they would be called clevis, or possibly Cletis if your from the deep south

We call those cable pinchers “Pork chops” and use them to stretch cable barrier in the medians of the free ways, and work great. Good message at the end. Our pastor uses a similar saying “Be a doer of the word and not a hearer only.” I’m loving these videos

Hey cody - love the videos.... We use the cable puller to help stretch out our barb wire fences. We attach it to the winch on our Polaris ranger and use it to stretch out runs too long for the fence stretchers! It works great!

I love this. And as a believer and a pastors son he always taught me that actions speak louder than words, and that actions surely will give you an opportunity to chit chat, to learn about them and to share a little of yourself. Volunteering is something I’ve always done with my children who are now older and sharing and teaching others to share God’s joy. I suppose they are my legacy but even more, children of the king😊 Blessing to you and your growing family

Cody, thank you for the acknowlegement about cutting off branches. You are right, that the ponderosa branches you are cutting don't tear the bark down much, if at all. But lots of trees DO. What you need now is not to leave much of a stub at all. True for all trees . No stubs as the stubs die, dry & crack, making a way for pathogens and insects to easily enter the tree. This will cause rot and other problems. It's how hollows get started. When the tree can grow over a cut, it seals it.

Absolutely agree with you about being a doer of the Word. The same principle applies to your close relationships. When my wife asks me if I love her, I tell her with words if course, but I also say, words are easy. So you have no doubt, I will look for ways to show you. I'm not very domestic, I couldn't fix a meal to save my life, but I can clean up the kitchen, keep my clothes organized, fix the appliance that is broken, mop the floors. You get the idea, "doing" love is more convincing than talking about it.

Thank you for sharing your forestry "series". As for the length 10 minutes or so seems to short, then I must wait for the next installment. I prefer 30-45 minute videos. These can be in a series as well. For those who don't want to take the time to watch a longer video, they can watch segments throughout the week. Honestly, I enjoy them so much that I don't want to have to wait. After work 10-13 hours five days each week, a long for a sense of the outdoors for at least 30 minutes.
