Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin is the oldest community along the upper Mississippi River and the second oldest in the state of Wisconsin. Life along the Mississippi River defines this area - from historical significance to the way it shapes the people that call it home.

It brought back so many wonderful memories to my mother, Anita Snyder, who was raised in PDC and is now 92 years old residing in Los Angeles. Thank you for making this great documentary!

My grandmas house was just a couple of blocks from the villa Louis. My mom and dad were both born there, and are buried there

I too am a class of 1972 high school graduate, but from Clintonville, WI. The first time I was ever in Prairie du Chien,was in 1971 & 1972. I was a counselor at a basketball camp at Campion High School. It was a very beautiful campus.I may be mistaken, but I thought at that time, Campion was an all boys Catholic High School. I may be wrong, wouldn’t be the first time. lol. I remember on our free time, me and a couple of other counselors would bike all around the city. I will agree, it is a very beautiful city. I hold and cherish the great memories. Thank you for the great memories. Take care fellow 72 graduates.

Thank you so much for making this video. God bless you! True river rats ( locals) never give up. I am proud to know almost everyone in this video. Wonderful folks. God bless them all! I myself miss going to the fiurth ward and playing as a child. I still go.. its just not the same.. so happy they still use the island. They have made it good.

Born in PDC mid 60s Traveled the world for business. Returned to Crawford county 20+ years ago. No place like Home. ... Driving lessons began at Leo Heidershites Dodge garage sittin on a heavy Chicago phonebook in a blue station wagon... I was 5. Almost backed it off into the water.😂 Dad worked there & at Halpins. Cousin Kenny ran a liquor store& a barbershop years back. Still fish at the wall, when I get to town. We are Kings!

While I didn't actually grow up in PDC, we were weekend visitors in the summer months. Houseboating brought us there, and the friendly residents are what made it so desirable. I thank all the residents for making us out of town visitors so very welcomed. PDC is on my bucket list for a vacation in the coming years.

What a great trip. I was born and raised in Monona, but attended many dances in Prairie du Chien. I now live in Wyoming🤠so the documentary was really fun for me to watch. Bette Beneker is a dear friend of mine. My brother worked at 3M, also had the Circle Bar for a period of time. In the summer a Sunday drive across the bridge to get one of the famous hamburgers😋 downtown and take them to the picnic tables by the river was always enjoyable. Thank you again for the trip down memory lane.😊Good Job.👍

Are there tunnels underneath the old downtown area? Just curious because there are tunnels running all around in my Wisconsin town and many of the surrounding towns old commercial buildings
