Hey, man I appreciate this comment. It makes sense that we Colombians raised in the USA want to go back to reconnect with our roots and live among our people. Life in Colombia is slower, more simple, and less robotic than in the USA. However, Colombia has deep issues like corruption, political violence, and crime that sometimes make life in the country difficult. Despite that I still prefer to live there than in the states. I'm glad you are going to spend more time in 🇨🇴. Its a blessing to have the opportunity to live in both places. And I definitely have plans to invest in Colombia! Cheers.

Yeah man exactly. As a kid, returning to the USA after visiting family in Colombia was so depressing. You definitely have to spend time there to understand how magical of a place it is. I'm glad ur planning on retiring in 🇨🇴 being around family in the motherland is the best feeling. I've been through eje cafetero, spent time in Pereira and Sta Rosa de Cabal, and visited Manizales once, but I would like to return to spend more time there. Cheers!

Hey, bro, thanks for your comment. Yeah, man, the malls in Colombia are next level, haha. In Cali, Chipichape is also a beautiful mall. I agree the traffic can be rough, especially in Bogota; if I'm correct, this city has the worst traffic in South America! Regarding safety, common sense plays a significant role; however, sometimes your card gets called, if you know what I mean, even if you're careful. It happened to me in Medellin haha. Cheers brotha!

Damn thats interesting. I haven't been to Barranquilla yet, I was in Sta Marta once but I had no idea there were any Arabs there. I've heard that in Bogota there is a small Arab community, and some good spots to try their cuisine.

Wassup brotha. Not arguing that in the USA, you can get a variety of delicious cuisine from all over the world. I wasn't referring to eating out, though. I was referring to the quality of ingredients, like the abundance of tropical fruits & especially the meat. In Colombia, animals are raised in healthier conditions, and you will often see cattle grazing on open pastures throughout the countryside. In the USA, factory farming is the norm, which produces unhealthy, low-quality meat that most people buy prepackaged from the supermarket. If you want "grass-fed," it will cost you significantly more. In Colombia, butchers are the most popular way to get meat, dairy & eggs, and they receive fresh products throughout the week; in the USA, the butcher is nearly extinct. In Colombia, the meat tastes different; it has a more natural flavor. Whenever I eat sancocho de gallina or mondongo at a Colombian spot in the States, it doesn't taste the same at all.

@andresonearth Well, I think it's a mixed bag. No doubt, the fruits and vegetables are much better because one can get them fresh and are abundant in Colombia, given the variety of micro-climates. Regarding the beef, American beef is much more likely to have been brought up on a soybean/grain diet. This means more marbling, more juices and more flavor. The finish, a buttery, rich flavor and the tenderest of cuts. In contrast, Colombian grass fed Brahman cattle, which are hardy cows that survive well in hot tropical conditions, but their meat tends to be a lot tougher. I guess it's a matter of preference, but the next time you walk into a "CARULLA" supermarket, go to the meat section and you will notice an array of pre-packaged imported USA cuts to include tomahawk steaks, sirloin and filet mignon. Demand for USA beef in Colombia has grown exponentially amongst the upper echelon of Colombian society. Seafood in Colombia is mediocre and difficult to get clams, mussels, scallops and other maritime delicacies. One can find the basic salmon, red snapper and shrimp, which can be farm raised, but it is tough to get the wild caught maritime seafood from the northern Atlantic. With respect to Sanconcho! We've traveled the four corners of Colombia to see who makes the best sancocho. I thought the best sancocho would be in colder weather places like Boyaca, but to my surprise, I found it in Cali, Valle! Specifically, in a pueblo called "GINEBRA" outside of Cali. Before you ask, yes, we've had sancocho in "Medallo" several times! That said, my wife makes a killer sancocho here in the USA and her secret is to cook it low and slow with the right balance on condiments. Colombia is great and we go often because we have a residence outside of Bogota, but there are safety issues to contend with and although things have much improved, it still has a long way to go to resolve its problems. Comercially, things have gotten much better in the past 10 years and you can now buy many products in-country due to the trade agreements with China that you could not get before, but the stores in the USA are still more abundant in respect to inventory, selection and quality. Colombia is terrific, and one thing that it has hands down over the USA, especially for Colombo-Americans and ex-pats, is the cost of living! Earning in dollars in Colombia affords one a very comfortable and pleasant lifestyle. I only hope that Colombia goes forward in the right direction and does not succumb to political turmoil that will destabilize the country. Cheers! PS Colombians are very warm and welcoming as you pointed out, but "customer service" in Colombia really tries your patience!

Colombian food in Colombia is awesome. You can also find a wide variety of foods in Bogota and Medellin. It is all subjective. 🎉

You are completely wrong. If u go to a produce market in Colombia u will see all types of tropical fruits and vegetables. The beef is much better quality, it’s not factory farm corn fed gmo like in the USA. You probably went to Colombia and just shopped at the regular supermarket. Colombians go to the butcher for meat and markets for fruits and vegetables.

Thailand is really good. I havent been to Columbia, been to Mexico a few times. Nothing bad happened to me in Mexico, but I dont feel as comfortable/safe in Mexico as I would anywhere in south east Asia. Completely different culture. I would feel completely safe with a few drinks in me walking around Bangkok at 2am on my own. I wouldnt do that in Mexico. For whatever reason, latin America has more problems with crime. Thats not to say bad things cant happen in SEA, but the likelihood is far far lower.

From the seafood dishes on pacific coast to the hearty soups from the mountains of the east, the variety of dairy products from the cold plateau regions, the wood fire roasted meats from the plains & the infinite number of recipes with our abundance of tropical fruits. The food is boring for those who don’t explore 🫡
