I'm from West Tennessee the Memphis area. I have been living in Davao City since I came to the Philippines 4/2022. It's a nice city with almost everything an American would want as far as food and other items. The malls are very nice and plentiful. Traffic can be a hassle sometimes in our truck but, I'm retired and not in a hurry. Nice video. Thanks

I went to high school at Millington and was there for a while after before heading west. Moved to Digos in 2009 after the u.s. presidential election. While no place is perfect and theres not a whole lot to do here, traffic is easy to deal with if I approach it from the standpoint that everything can be a potential hazzard and a goog fifty percent will be. Folks are nice and polite. It works for me and my family. One recommendation is to get out of the city to a higher elevation and the never-ending August turns into October.

Sad to hear you will be leaving Digos as I was hoping to see you around town once I have the chance to return there. But glad you're still staying in Davao which is still not too far. Like you said, maybe a good 1.5 hours by car with good weather, etc. We have a small condo at the Avida Towers where my kids stay while in school in Davao, but our main place is in Digos City. We're currently building something in Kapatagan which I hope I can come back to see by March 2023 if all goes well. Hopefully you'll come back to Digos from time to time. We own one of the oldest hotels there, Hotel de Crisbelle and also one of the oldest restaurants, Oceanic Food Center there. :)

Will for sure be coming to visit as it is where my in laws live. I have a brother in law that worked at your hotel when he was younger before he became an officer on a ship after college. I have passed by it riding around on my bike but have never been inside. Kapatagan is like insane wonderful mountain views! When you come back there is a good chance you will run into me in Digos at some point.

Davao is going to be first stop, I'm expected to stay 6 or 12 months, and if I like it, I will stay. Davao is supposed to be the 3rd safest large city in Asia. Wasn't my first choice (it was 3rd, behind Makati and Cebu), but it just made sense for several reasons, including traffic, quality of life and the like. Still winding down here, 6 months out. And you are in my feed, btw. And...yes, do a video on renting, that would help me.

@@mikejones5364 , I expect to Davao is just the first stop. Yes, there have been some torror issues in Davao, but I've have my truck shot with bullets driving past a robbery in Greensboro, NC, and there are drive by shooting, school shooting and everything else here. It's a different kind of violence, but count bodies and statistically, Davao isn't that dangerous.

I love Digos. Not much traffic. Beaches are great. Mountain is near. But no taxis and limited selection of Western items. Electricity has gone up a lot. But during the pandemic Davao city was much stricter than Digos. Now I stay in Thailand for some period, and I like it here due to all the Western guys and foods available in Pattaya. Also beaches and all kinds of stuff to do and vehicles to rent. It's cheaper to live here now compared to a similar area in the Philippines. Language is the big issue here of course. Hope to meet again some time. God bless you and your family.

@@mikejones5364 Well, I love the beaches there, I guess it as all about preferences. Of course, I know they are not world class, but the people I meet there are the best. And the beaches are quite clean as of now. I stayed also in Cebu for a couple of years, and the beaches that are available for free (or next to free) close to Cebu city, Mandaue city and Lapu-Lapu island are so terrible! That is why I moved quickly down south to Argao, where the beach is free to use, and also very lovely. The Beaches in Digos are actually free to use, and gives me all I want from a beach trip. When I go to the beach in Digos, I can easily swim, no need to walk for hundreds of meters on stones and corrals. Also, the waves are not too large, so the kids can enjoy also. I can play volleyball with the locals, and rent a cabin for the family to eat, drink and have fun, for a very reasonable price.

@@DrLawaytravels I am in Pattaya for the first time. I lived in Davao for most of the years from 1994 to 2020. Never again. Pattaya wipes the Philippines face with the floor. Not even Boracay can hold a candle to Pattaya (literally the beach is unlit at night, the sand is tracked into all the establishments, no beach road, lacking space and infrastructure). Pattaya is paradise right now as the millions of Chinese aren't here (this will unfortunately change eventually). The climate is cold, dry and windy in Dececmber, similar to N. Luzon. Davao has the worst climate in the Philippines, no wind, rainy, sultry. Miserable. The Philippines is a clusterfuck of crab bucket mentality. Never again! Filipinos are so judgmental and back biters. Thais and Indonesians not. The Spanish and the Catholic church destroyed the Asian culture in the Philippines. Ask your wife what "thick face" means. You will eventually learn that the Philippines is a shit hole. Nothing to do in Davao, boring a.f..

I've lived on Davao for over 2 years and we are moving back to USA.. We are very involved (I have 2 active kids) and I've found almost everything is a drawback being here compared to America. Please think twice about moving here..You will have issues you never expected and you won't know if someone doesn't warn you. The biggest drawback is the general dishonesty of everyone, no exceptions. Filipinos are nice and have great, tolerant temperaments but will not think twice about lying and deceiving you. They have a hundred excuses to get out of doing what they they tell you they will do. Even the most devout Christians will lie to you. It's either move or go insane.

Even the best Filipinos lie and make excuses, almost always when it comes to money. That's the main reason they lie. I think some foreigners are so enamored with virgin tropical nature when they first arrive that they would rate some forsaken, backwater places with a dearth of infrastructure as more desirable than Pattaya (e.g. YT vlogger Dr. Laway in Digos, province of Davao del Sur, Mindanao). They are coming from the West so they take infrastructure for granted. As the months and years of experience accumulate, they realize they really appreciate infrastructure and so they gravitate back to the cities. And most of the cities of SE Asia are hell. Thus in comparison Pattaya is paradise (at least right now as not overrun by 10 million Chinese who were in Thailand annually before the pLandemic hoax) being a mix of green spaces and concrete jungle.

Lived in davao city in 2015 to 2019. Was not so bad at first. However the condo we lived in . Camilla North point started building more condos and the pool was dirty. The management didn't care. So we moved to tagum. It was a cleaners city with speaks and no traffic problems. However not so great for American foods and was very lonely for us as a family of 4 and the school system was not that great. We moved to samal Island. The island is cheap and easy. I really do not believe from the bridge they are talking about. Has been tqlk since 1987. The resource I have on the internet says that the bridge is propaganda the bridge is not coming to samal. As it was signed in Congress and the senate as a natural invirorment city. I see only large condo unit that are empty in davao now since I first came. To me it a nasty city and the traffic is the worst in the Philippines. If I had to do it all over again. I would have moved to Dumaguete city. They are very good to Americans and foreigners. Have been scammed twice in davao city at a Cammilla north point and on a land deal. My advice to any single Man would be stay off the internet and travel around the Philippines and see what place you like to live. Date alot witch I did l. After first coming to the Philippines. I came for 1 girl and it was a nightmare. The second time. I dated and found a great beautiful woman that have me 2 beautiful children a girl and boy 13 months apart. Just wish I would before investing into bikes trucks Baja furniture tools and much other things would have traveled before having children and found a place I really be happy with. We want to send our very young children to Silliman University in dumaguete. So are saving to make that move in 14 year. On top of that Davao city sit ls rite on the ring of fir in 2917 experience ld a 7.2 earthquake. It was not fun. Also If you look on the internet it says Davao city will be taken over by the ocean in the year 2050

So... what's the true scoop on Mindanao? Avoid like State Dept. still says to, or, "that's BS... no problem" like all the UK folks saying...?

Whats the big deal about being close to the airport. Expats always say that. I rather have good access to a resort and a big mall. LOL

I haven’t seen all your videos, but never heard you address the elephant in the room re Mindanao… Islamic extremism and NPA. You’re a braver man than me living in Southern Mindanao (outside Davao).

@@jackschluckbier7051 Yes that's in a gated subdivision near Mintal, very much my wife's domain. I'm hoping to build an off grid mancave/shed on the plot in Calinan.
