I noticed a comment by someone who said she was from the U.S.A. and she wished our hospitals were like this. I've spent a lot of time in the E.R. with each of my parents over the last 4 years, and I do mean a lot. There were health care people who were wonderful, and there were those who acted like interacting with my elderly, ill parents was a huge chore for them. One thing I can say, is that my parents were ALWAYS covered for privacy and for warmth. They were ALWAYS provided socks and blankets, which I see is not necessarily the case in these videos. Also, I'm sure being on camera and chatting with the documentarians puts them all on their best behavior. I think E.R.s are a microcosm of humanity, just like any group of people. Some are wonderfully kind and compassionate. Some are not. I do very much enjoy these videos because I do get to see the best of humanity in the health care providers.

@@Mrs.TJTaylor I work for an organization that supports adults with disabilities who live in the community, including adults with development disabilities and yes, siblings are involved and I have seen how that expectation fragmented the entire family when the mom got it in her head that the sister would take over (resulted in the sister and the father going to another country to get away from the overly zealous mother). However, I'm in western Canada and we have government programs that pay for the adult to receive care 24 hour if need be, in their home, or in a shared home, in the community. Or the parents might buy them a condo and the carers come in round the clock, which we facilitate with the funding program and we manage the care and the staff. The siblings are involved then, but at arms length. Having looked up the UK's equivalent in the past, I don't see the same programs in place that would do that. Programs that let sisters be sisters and not caregivers. I might be wrong, but the UK comes off, to me, as being behind the times in independence and accessibility matters for people with disabilities. I should mention that whilst a child is a minor the governments pours money into the family to make sure the child gets every support he needs.

The daughter may resent being a 'rock' as she grows older and bail out like the dad did. She needs her own life, not just be expected to be a 'rock' for mum and a carer for her brother. I feel quite sorry for her, because she has some tough decisions to make if she wants an independent life of her own.

The wait times here can be several hours in some hospitals but you still get seen. Prescriptions are free. if you have surgery through the Public hospital system .. it is free.

Americans are brainwashed to believe that no-holds-barred capitalism is the greatest good. Parents of kids on the spectrum have a very hard row to hoe. Here in Ontario, because the Conservatives have control of the province, a lot of the very important educational funding for these kids was cut. The parents have had to go on the warpath to keep what little is left. For these kids, the right kind of early education is VITAL.

Peoe who have genetic predisposition to ASD will have atypical neural trimming. If you know as much as you think you do you'll not have to ask me what neural trimming is and how it also explains and contributes tohow unique each autistic person is.
