I spent over 23 Years on Submarines in my US Navy career. During that time I spent more than 17 1/2 of those years at sea away from my family. Missed a large amount of Family functions, Birthdays, Anniversaries, Births, and Deaths. Was at sea for 9/11. Submariners are a special kind of person. We rely on each other to make sure the number of dives equals the number of surfaces. Each and every crew member knows that if there is a casualty onboard, we will do everything in our power to correct it and save the boat. Would do it all over again. ETRCS(SS), USN RET.

Wow, didn’t you ever have shore duty for a few years at a time? My brother got out as an STC on fast attacks and even he had shore duty where he taught Sonar school in Key West for a few years. My brother in law was a Senior STC on boomers and he did three months out and three months in along with shore duty rotations. I just did four and got out as an AX2 from a VP Squadron. I worked at EB for about six months when the first hull sections of the Ohio came together.

I served 24 years on 3 Aircraft Carriers and a Guided-Missile Cruiser. Submarines are a whole different animal. They are one of the most lethal weapons on the planet. U.S. Submarines are feared by the enemy for good reason. Their stealth is legendary, and they can put themselves into position to take down the mightiest surface ship. A Ballistic Missile Submarine has the ability to take out entire countries. They should be feared.

I was a submariner for 4.5 years. Served aboard the USS Houston, SSN 713. And this video makes me miss the life. I contemplated a 2nd sea tour but going through the gender transition on my shore command limited my chances of going back to a submarine and I had zero intention of serving aboard a carrier. So I opted to get out rather than risk not getting stationed on a sub.

It is really very hard to work in a submarine. You are in a tiny steel tube, no sublight and surrounded complecated machine. Very tiny room for sleeping. Limited access for bath. You are always depend on other workers and machine. In case of emergency or fire, you have no chance to excape. I appretiate all the soldiers, who are working in a submarine, all around the world.

Probably Nigeria's first goal would be littoral defense, particularly if there are extensive shallows along the coast. Diesel/electric submarines are better in such close confines. Big sassy nuclear boats are creatures of the open ocean, deep blue water.

The USN also makes a point of feeding submariners well... as they say, physical and mental well-being of the crew. Fresh daily dinner rolls... mmm. They handpick the Mess Specialists. Subs aren't uncomfortable, just cramped. View ain't much. Subbies make their own entertainment and they can be pretty colorful particularly after four weeks under way.

Cheap homemade sea ski drones make carriers and subs a waste of human lives and money. Australia paid America 4 billion for 2 subs. 10K could have bought 3 sea skis at a garage sale. How many bamboo booby traps maimed Vietnam vets compared to those who were shot by the Viet Cong? If all of these low cost homemade options are successful, why does America still pay trillions on weapons?
