I got tears when y'all started talking about Janis at the festival because just watching the video is heart stopping. I'm 38 but I felt as if I were there. To me, I loved that we could mainly only see Janis' feet as the music ran through her soul and the look on momma Cass' face when all she could say was wow! It's my favorite footage tbh. Thanks for sharing this video and the life of Janis. I hope she can now see just how phenomenal and beautiful she always was and will be. 💞

20 years after monterey saw monterey pop on uk tv and loved all them bands especially janis ever since and still listening at 53.

i was only 4 years old when we lost janis but growing up listenjng to her music never has an artist awed me so! she and her music has touched my soul and theres very few artists who have done that. to me she is and always will be the first lady of rock and a pioneering trailblazer who broke the glass ceiling.

I'm so glad I got to see this. I've seen all the documentaries, but it was nice to hear from her siblings, and Amy.

Hearing from the siblings was so sad. We always see these celebrities that died but we rarely get to see how devastating it is on the family. And obviously her parents loved her but they didn't seem to have a really close relationship and it has to be absolutely crushing not only to lose a child but to lose a child that you probably didn't tell you were proud of them enough, or that you loved them enough. Just completely heartbreaking. Also Kris Kristofferson has a son who was trying to be a professional wrestler. He was wrestling at a show I was going to go and wrestle on and i ended up not being able to go and Kris came to see his son. They said came and hung out for a couple hours and was really chill. I would LOVE to have asked him about Janis. I wouldnt just run up and ask obviously. Id gauge the situation and decide if I can RESPECTFULLY ask or not, but ill likely never get the chance. She was dead over 20 years before I was even born Im 29 now in 2020 and id give anything to just be able to talk with someone who had been close to her. And the one thing I REALLY wanted to see, was Dick Cavitt talking about her and that was probably my favorite thing to see. They def def def had something haha. Hes adorable. I was born at the wrong time haha.

I feel for Janis. I came from a small town and was bullied for it. It's the same story where these Jocks bully kids who are different generation after generation and obviously nothing gets done about it. These bullies get away with it and the victims suffer through their lives. Jimmy Johnson admitted to it and seemed proud of what he did to her. Laws need to be passed where if you are caught bullying a student, you are off the sports teams for good. I too had problems later in life and I turned to drugs and alcohol for comfort. I almost died as well. I am a musician and an artist so I can relate to Janis. She was a very beautiful woman and very talented. I wish she would have gotten help and counseling. I hope the people who hurt her paid for that. It's funny how the southern folks in these small towns claim to be Christians. They need to reevaluate that. I feel bad for them when they stand before God on their day of judgment. Shame on them.

WoW that was really something. These four people especially her sister and brother brought to life this simple woman/super star Janis Joplin. I remember how maligned she was by many of the residents of Port Arthur and how Janis lost no opportunities to let the world know how abused and humiliated those experiences left her. She was a real path blazer and a legend. Now I need to find the documentary and watch it.

I couldn’t imagine a world where the Beatles played Monterey? I can’t believe they even agreed at one point? Don’t know how I’ve never heard this. Janis Joplin rip you were badass sexy rock chick with a beautiful soul and you didn’t need to be loved by anyone and you left to early to get to no that maybe in another life you can call me daddy!!

I think I kinda knew how Janis felt. In no way am I a talent or creator, but I can tell you that I’m happy when I’m around people but very lonely when I’m not around people. I can imagine the rush she felt while on stage, but when it was over + she went back to her hotel, she was alone - where I think she became extremely lonely + depressed - and it took over her whole soul because she wanted to be loved more than anything in her world. Why did she wind up alone at night after her performance? I just don’t understand that. I would’ve been a pain in her ass because I never would have left her side - especially knowing how she hated to be lonely + scared. Where were all her friends then??

Nothing against the video, but why the hell is the host speaking most of the time. We have read all these stories about Janis, we saw the documentary, we saw videos online. Just give space to the people who lived with her and have something interesting and NEW to say, for god sake.

So sad that her family felt trepidation when she was coming home all dressed up like a rockstar especially when by her letters all she cared about was there approval and wanting to do them proud. You can blame the times for the way her parents were but surely there was never a time when you were ashamed of your daughter ? When she was coming home they should of had a massive welcome home party for her. It’s so obvious to look in hindsight and see how the people around her all contributed to her not caring about herself and then dying. Most addiction stories the addicts are turning away from help but poor Janis was desperate to be helped but no one would do it and she wasn’t even horrible to anyone like sometimes happens. It’s baffling and hard to understand why they all treated her so badly? Because she wasn’t racist? Wore extravagant clothes? Sang rock n roll? I can’t work out why her family were ashamed and alienated her? Strange! Summat else going on in that family maybe?

She was a narcissist and had arrested development .Teenage angst. She had a good,decent upbringing. She would fit in in today's society. (Every show,book about her just rehashes the same old mantras. )

Growing up in southern Indiana where racism was the norm , I pissed people off regularly because I would question a racists intellect , and the fact that they need to convince themselves and others that certain people are inferior , in order to feel that at least someone is lower than they are. Its insecurity. If you point out that prejudice is only fear in disguise , it really aggravates the people who practice that way of thinking, because they know its true. I played old time blues , jazz R & B all my life so I caught shit for being a supposed 'n****r lover . But it didn't bother me. It only made me realize that I was dealing with idiots and if anything it made me more confident , because I realized I was surrounded by people who weren't as enlightened as I liked to think I was. A redneck hates nothing worse than being told he is just a fearful, insecure and frankly clueless person.
