I worked transit security for a few years. Basically a sentient punching bag. Only unrealistic parts of this video is the 7 AM alarm clock and the management is far nicer in the video than they ever are in the real world. I can relate, and share a couple things I learned on the road. One, if you have a pregnant woman and priority seating is being taken up by perfectly able bodied people, yes, by law you cannot make them get up, but what you can do is keep the bus stopped and make an announcement "Due to safety concerns this bus is not moving until this lady is able to have a seat". Works like a treat. Two, some buses also have 'canned', or recorded announcements that can be played by the touch of a button. Find the most irritating one, when you get some punk who won't turn his music down or wear earphones (We perfer both, but at least use earphones) just play that irritating canned message over and over, making the announcement that we will stop replaying the message when all passengers use their earphones. Just like with passengers that won't get up, peer pressure from other passengers works wonders.

As person who lives in Poland and go by bus for past 4 years to school, i didnt notice that any of "small or private bus companies" drivers would be sad, they always happiy, have sense of humour and always polite and will wait for you if they see someone trying to catch up. Maybe its only ilusion cuz i dont go to school by bus of big companies so...

Bus Drivers where I live in Silicon Valley make an average of $28-31 an hour, which despite it being expensive has hell here, isn't all that horrible I mean its typically around the same as your average Uber, but the money is consistent and you get lots of additional benefits. They don't have it 2 bad 😊

As a school bus driver I can confirm that this video is true. I recently got the longest route that runs through downtown and the busiest areas of the city. Route 3932, where I wake up at 4:30am, at the yard at 5:45am, do my inspection and pick up kids on the other side of the city at 6:53am. Then drive them through 90km of dense city traffic for two amd a half hours, and then repeat the same route in the evening with the final stop being at 5:30pm, back at the yard at 6pm, and back home at 6:30pm. Lasted about two weeks on that route before I came crying to my boss to put me on an easier route.

As a former bus driver, I can confirm I have seen this many times and worse..The weekend town route from the nightclubs and pubs was the worst.. People refusing to pay for the bus ride, people p*ssing on the floor of the bus and drunk people fighting and vomiting on the bus. The single mum with kids screaming in a pushchair who is completely oblivious to the screaming. I hated EVERY minute of this job. The pay is 💩 and the hours are long working Sundays and bank holidays. Very early starts and very late finishes. Hardly surprising they can't find drivers here in the UK. Worst job ever. People idolize football players like they are some kind of God...Yet the REAL heroes are our bus drivers... Please treat your bus driver with the respect he/she deserves the next time you get on a bus. It is an awful low-paid VERY stressful job working long hours for very little reward.

In Silesia, Poland (Silesian Metropolis), you can't buy a ticket from a driver by card, but you can do it either from a ticket machines (that stand at many stops), or if you have a ŚKUP card (Silesian Public Services Card), you can buy a virtual one, or even ride by distance. Every bus has a card reader. As far as I know, Warsaw's ZTM, and Wrocław's MPK have some similar solutions. Some regions still rely on paper tickets, like it was 1990s. In Poland public transport situation really varies on the voivodeships and cities.

Same here in Czechia. Some cities have credit card terminals inside busses, some still rely on paper tickets. Do you still have SMS tickets in Poland? They are quite popular here. Btw. Hello neighbor!

This is the superior way. Buying a ticket direct from driver often creates a queue in the states, plus people just outright bully or beg the drivers. Czechia’s pid lítačka is also better than most of the apps in the states.

Another great video ZBS, you can tell a lot of time and effort was spent on this project. I've seen a lot of what happened in the video, it definitely reflects a relatively accurate picture of what it's like to be a bus driver in America except without the violence. The other big difference is that in my area all the drivers who refused to get the shot got fired and now most of the deivers appear to be replaced by people from India. Anyway I can't wait to see what you come up with next!

The cons I see are: (1) if you get involved in an accident, chances are you or the other people involved will either be badly injured or lose your life, while in the cities it's mostly minor crashes. (2) staying away from your family for days, though the latter is only an issue for those who are strongly connected to their family (for example, if you have a wife and children).
