Dawn Wells came to my sixth grade elementary class. I think it was the fall of 1971. She was in town. We were told to do some kind of show. So it was quite a surprise that we got to see her. Come talk to our class. This was Meadows Elementary school in Plano, Texas, I remember how pretty she was but everyone simply wanted to ask her questions about Gilligan. She was a lovely girl, and I was sitting right in the front row, and I couldn’t think of a good question to ask her.

I met her around 1971 when she visited Six Flags over Texas. I was working and saw her, went over and we talked for a while and she gave me her autograph for my girlfriend at the time. I got lucky and was able to see her again in Texas at the Country Reporter festival and we spent some time talking about the first time we met. She signed my Six Flags yearbook next to the picture of her on one of the rides. Then when it was time to get my picture with her, she grabbed my hair and pulled me to her cheek. She gave me some wonderful memories. 🥰

I met Dawn Wells back in the late 80’s. I was in a top 40 band in St. Petersburg Fl. and we were hired to play at a party where Dawn was the guest of honor. Unlike other celebrities who try to keep a low profile, Dawn was sitting with her people at the at the table at the very front of the stage. She was having a grand time. When the band took a break I took the opportunity to introduce myself to her. She was extremely gracious and friendly. I was struck by the fact that the bubbly personality she showed on Gilligan’s Island was actually her real nature. It was such a pleasure to discover this. When I shared this observation with her she surprisingly became apologetic and said, “When you play a role for as long as I did it’s impossible not to let your personality come through.” She was so humble. I was a fan of hers before this encounter. Having met her and experienced what a genuine and classy woman she was, I came away with a much greater depth of appreciation.

She will NEVER be forgotten! She was the perfect girl as Mary Ann. I have autograph photos of both Bob Denver and Alan Hale . I really wish I could have gotten the rest of the cast. They were all brilliant! I'm a real die hard fan to the point of purchasing an exact replica model of the SS Minnow. All of the cast of Gilligan's island will live in the heart's of fans worldwide!

The world needs alot more people like her that's for sure.Just goes to show no-matter how much of a star struck image one has,there are still nefarious parasitic low life Narcissistic entities that may extract ones light,& or exploit others resourceful energies.Her close friends & even family members,were not really there for Dawn in the last part of her Twilight years,not that she didn't share her success thru paying their bills spending money with them anyways.Especially when they needed money.Only instead of saving abit for herself as a retirement plan incase of emergency.Especially before the first Coronavirus wave hit by pushing alot elderly people into dense assistant living scenarious & thru more close assistent convelescent homes.

Dawn seemed like an angel on earth, how she cared for people and maintained that clean, wide-eyed innocence all her life. She always had the cutest figure too. This past weekend there was a _Gilligan's Island_ marathon. I'm glad to hear that everyone on that show got along. *But truly I don't understand how Sherwood Schwartz could come away with $90 million dollars and not give a single damn about the cast members who were hurting financially. Do people like that even have a conscience?*
@CoolClassics

The whole Sherwood Schwartz thing does not settle right with me either. At some point, you have to give back, especially to those that helped you make the money and are hurting.

@@CoolClassics -- It would have been nothing for Sherwood Schwartz to give them a gratuity of, say, *$200,000 each.* A drop in the bucket, and I doubt the $90K was Schwartz's entire net worth. He probably made a lot more in Hollywood on other things. And though I always liked Natalie Schafer, she was another one. Did wanted Dawn to care for her and her dog. OK she left $50,000 for the care of her dog (which was good, and I hope the dog survived that flood), but Natalie, who appeared to have plenty of money, could have given Dawn $50,000 or more also, for caring for her. Especially as the childless Natalie considered Dawn as her daughter.

Being a corn fed boy from a farming community, Dawns character on the island was more relatable than Tina's. That was the only reason Mary Ann was my favorite. It's so sad that so many actors and actresses from the start of Hollywood ended up scraping by for most of their lives, when Hollywood decided they weren't relevant anymore. How many lives has Hollywood sucked the joy from in their youthful years only to throw them away as they aged.

Thank you so much for this great great video, and for not bursting my bubble. I almost didn't click on it, as most of the time with videos like this, you learn things you just wish you hadn't heard, but not this time. It seems this absolute beauty was as good and sweet a person as she appeared to be. And to learn how well the cast got along was a great bonus, it completed the picture. It's always said, never meet your heroes. Well, she wasn't my "hero," but she was my first love, I think I was 8. Rest in Peace Dawn, for your memory is alive and well.

I grew up with Gillian's Island and Mary Ann was always my favorite. I had seen Dawn here and there over the years, but did not see her in many other TV shows after Gillian's Island ended. Now I know why. Thank you Cool Classics for this biography and showing everyone just how amazing Dawn Wells really was. She had a huge heart for family and her fans and I am sure she was/is loved by many.

Never watched much of the show but knew of her. I was more into I Dream of Jeanie & Get Smart type humor. Bob Denver made the show though how STUPID could somebody be but he really played the part. Yeah much like Don Adams. She passed from Covid? Didn't know that. Some people I guess weren't made quite right. Most of us it just another bug, me included. Felt like shit for about a week but it never really got into my lungs. May not have even been Covid for all I know I never bothered to get tested. Not really prone to virus & I'm 80yo.

I met Dawn on October 25, 2014. Like everyone posting here, I have to say she was so gracious, and kind. She verified the little known fact to me that Mrs. Howells given name was Eunice. She signed a photo of her, Alan and Russell with clocks, watches and other time pieces. When I asked why the theme of the photo was so time oriented, she revealed that it was a play on the fact that the network kept moving them all over the tv schedule. Thanks for a great video.

I met Dawn Wells at a book signing at Duthie's book store in Downtown Vancouver in 1993. I was walking thru the mall with a co-worker heading back to the court house when she said "There's your friend!" I was shocked! Dawn noticed how shy I was, stuck out her hand and said "Hi there" will that lovely genuine smile.I was all mumbled and shy going up to the table to say hello and buy the cook book she had just published. VERY dapper in a white suit and a fedora-type hat - she was absolutely lovely and even autographed it. I'm staring at the cookbook now. You could just tell she was as lovely on the inside as on the outside. I've never forgotten it!

Wow! She was even sweeter in real life than on the show she was famous for. Obviously she was quite an angel that should inspire us all. There are special people that you meet in this world and we are all the better for it. Dawn was one of those people I think although I never met her. They teach us to find the right mates, to love ourselves, to treat others better, and to not take life so seriously. My wife asked me one day if I love myself, & I told her not really, but she said you cannot really love others if you can't love yourself and looking back she was right. This is not being conceded or self involved it means loving who you are and that frees you from negative thoughts and emotions to love others more. Rest in peace Dawn you are perfection, what all women should stive to be.
