I did my time working on a king crab processing ship on Kodiak Island, Alaska in the mid 1970's. The German ship in the video is a luxury yacht compared to the vessel I was on, but I bet you still have to work long hours when you're on the fish.

It is interesting to find out what salary a crew member has per month; a sailor and, for example, a second mate. . My son works as a navigator on Russian ships. I wonder if he can apply for a job on this ship?

😢It's becoming a bad thing to see when zillions of tons of fish are hauled onboard a big trawler. This boat plus hundreds of other trawlers from around the world are decimating, even driving whole species of fish to extinction. I think that halibut is a bottom or ground fish. That means that the trawl net has to be weighted down to the bottom of the ocean and dragged along in order to catch this particular species of fish. I've heard that the bottom is ripped apart when a trawl net passes over it which means that an oceanic ecosystem is destroyed. That's a lot of collateral damage! As well there species of fish that the fishermen don't want but lots of these species get caught in the net along with the halibut. I believe these unwanted fish in the net are called by catch. They're usually dead so they're just thrown overboard. So that's more collateral damage. Trawling is a messy and brutal and overly destructive way to fish.
