Hi, we are Harriet and Mauro and in February 2021 we bought an abandoned smallholding in
Castellón, Spain.
It is now officially summer and we are very excited to have started harvesting lots of things from our garden, and also to have had quite a few visitors lately. We've had some really fun times over the last few weeks, in this video we're showing you what we've been picking, cooking, planting and constructing together with friends. 💚

Great idea having a rocket stove. Next time when working with clay & straw maybe smooth it out with water to get a better form and decorate it with small pebbles. But that is just my view. Garden is thriving and looking so inviting. Muchas gracias para compartir💖💃💖🌺👏👏👏

Hello Harriet. The stove from earth is superb idea. It's really sustainable. My in-laws still have the stove, and they collect tree pruning and branches as the fuel. Love the snippets of little kitties roaming around. They grow up so fast! Take care Harriet, Mauro and Tofu.

Hola chicos. Saludos desde Valencia . Yo hice hace unos años uno parecido, pero más grande. Y usaba una sartén fija parecida a un wok chino. Os aseguro que funciona perfectamente y el gasto en leña es mínimo. Sólo hay que acostumbrarse a usarlo. Yo lo usé bastante tiempo y ahora lo hecho de menos. Un saludo y me encantan vuestros vídeos

Hi, if you're losing trees, you might be having the same problem with the cardboard that you had with the black plastic. The cardboard repels water when it gets dry, at least until it breaks down.

Guapísima gracias por tu esfuerzo de hablar español, lo haces muy bien! Muy bonita la huerta, hace mucha ilusión coger lo que has estado cuidando. Por cierto la escarola no es lo mismo que la endivia, al menos que en mi zona, la escarola es rizada y la endivia es más amarillenta y pequeñita.

@@LittleSpanishFarmsteadjaja bueno, realmente tienes razón a nivel científico, son la misma especie pero diferentes variedades. Pero solo llamamos escarola a la rizada y la endivia es un cogollito liso y casi blanco, no los usamos como "sinónimos". A mi me parece que lo tienes ya al 99% 😁

🥰🥰 bello el video y me encanta que hables en español, y para el melocotón colocarle una mata de lavanda a nosotras nos dio excelente resultado con las hormigas y los pulgones hoy en cada árbol frutal que plantamos le colocamos una mata de lavanda. Saludos desde Santiago de Chile.

It looks like those trees need a deep soak daily, likely for a few weeks to allow the soil biology to flourish and the tiny rootlets to expand enough to get the soil nutrients. I know you have a wormery, try using an extract from the worm compost when watering those new trees. The soil biology around the roots should benefit, so should the trees themselves. Alternative is using the compost you have, piling it fairly deep around the trees. I usually soak the soil in the hole for at least a day before planting. That allows the roots to have enough moisture once the tree is in the ground. You both work hard, it's great to see how much progress has already happened. Hopefully Mauro gets at least one grapefruit in a year or two. 👍

Again, so inspiring Harriet and Mauro. The amount of work you accomplish in a 24 hour day make me wonder if perhaps in Spain, there are more than 24 hours in one day, hahahaha. The food you cook, no matter how simple, looks amazing and once again reminds me it is not the amount of ingredients you have, but the freshness, and that the best meals can be made with the fewest of whole, real ingredients. I have watched every video and keep re-watching until a new one is posted. Thanks for bringing us all into your life!!!!

Pero es muy bonito ver cómo cosechais, con que mimo hacéis las cosas , el horno me ha encantado , nosotras vivimos en la zona de Alicante y es cierto que ahora hay mucha hierba y todo muy seco me parece una brillante idea 😌 me encanta el acento que tienes 😍 y me gustan los vídeos en inglés aunque se me hace más fácil entenderte en castellano.bueno familia seguid así y ánimo con este calor que nos toca estos meses 🤗🤗🤗🤗

Wow beautiful veg for your neighbour Harriet. Everything looks so good. Love the seeds too, I am the same I get so excited when I receive them. Your mini orchard will be so beautiful as well. I put an apple and a pear tree in pots but the cold wind we had here in May blew all the blossom off and they look sad now. Somewhere more sheltered I think. Loved this video and cant wait for the next one! Thankyou for sharing your life.

Los árboles se plantan en primavera, en verano sufren mucho por el calor. Hechar corteza an la base no creo que sea demasiado bueno, pues añades acidez al suelo y el PH puede no ser rl adecuado. Suerte con esas semillas! Y saludos!

Un ejemplo de generosidad con tu vecina.¡ Que gran recompensa la cosecha! Genial el hornito. Felicitaciones a ambos. Me olvidaba, ponganlé un tutor al frutal que quedó torcido; los pulgones se mueren con una mezcla que se prepara colocando colillas de cigarrillos en agua durante 15 dias, siempre hay alguien que lamentablemente fuma, se coloca como aspersión del agua o lavando las hojas. Las hojas que están comidas en forma de pequeños círculos, es muy probable que sean las hormigas; para ello conviene ponerle en el tronco una especie de pollerita de nylon con flecos finos de unos 6 -7 cm. de largo, bien atada por la "cintura", con dos vueltas es suficiente, las hormigas no pasan esa barrera, no pueden subir hasta las hojas y dura muchísimo. Se controla después de las lluvias para que los flecos estén siempre despegados del tronco. Yo lo hice en cerezos y santo remedio. Saludos y cariños desde Argentina.

your tree which is in a pot should be soaked in water for several hours in water which will make it easy to remove from pot, if you place organic matter at base of plant before planting will help with water retention and a plastic pipe buried at root level to over the surface and watered several times a week should show results.

Harriet, what that seed packet might translate as is escarole? If so my grandmother's recipe was to make like soup... with onions garlic a bit of dried red peppers n great northern (or any white small) beans. Saute the beans first with onions etc n then add escarole with a bit more water....a meal with homemade bread! Its 20 min to deliciousness...

thank you! Yes, I would only worry about cross pollination if I plan to save the seeds though. I don't plan to save any corn this year tho so not too worried!

In Los Angeles I've had luck with a ground cover called asperagus cover it is a little pointy but is not as evasive as lantana which will grow thickets in the ground. Your Spanish is as nice as the Russian girls in Mexico they don't speak to fast.

Hola!! La endibia y la escarola no es lo mismo!!! Son diferentes verduras hasta donde yo se. La escorola se utiliza como una especie de lechuga para ensalada, y la endibia tipicamente se pone queso fundido encima

Zapallito no es calabacín, es zapallo de muro. El calabacín es el zapallo italiano que tiene el formato de un zucchini, mientras que el zapallito parece un zapallo verrugoso pero del tamaño de un tomate grande, y se utiliza cuando aun esta verde brillante, ya que si lo dejas madurar es incomible.

Hola guapetona , yo no entiendo mucho pero me encanta vuestro canal y siempre deseo aprender cosas nuevas lo que me lleva a daros un humilde consejo para que aprendáis a cuidar los frutales y a lidiar con las plagas mirad los canales de " La huertina de Toni" y "La huerta forestal de Jaime" dan muy buenas soluciones a gran parte de los problemas que te encuentras en la huerta y grandes consejos y recetas caseras para terminar con plagas y enfermedades de los cultivos de huertas y frutales , espero os pueda ayudar en algo , un beso grande y adelante ❤❤❤

Aww thank you! I just had to investigate black sapote, I've never heard of it, it looks like it's a kind of persimmon and we do have persimmon growing here... but apparently black sapote can't withstand the cold as well as normal persimmon. So maybe it wouldn't survive here. It can get to freezing in winter. I hope that isn't a deal-breaker for you! haha

My husband and family speak castellano so makes most sense to start there. I'm working on the local language, valenciano 🙂
