My children's father was adopted when he was 12 by a man who has fostered 68 teen boys over the course of about 40 years. He hosts a once a year event now called "chili bowl" where everyone comes together in the fall for a backyard football game, eating chili, having a fire, smores etc now that all of his former foster "kiddos" are now adults- most with families of their own. He only officially adopted 3 but for the most part they all still consider him "dad" and stay in contact with him. Each year he has a really good turn out of at least 20-30 people sometimes more.

Im so glad. As of tomorrow, I will be handed over to my perm caseworker. Im expecting placement quickly as there is nobody in my county who accepts teens. I have prepared my guest room with suggestions from your videos. I am cautiously optimistic. Thanks for your perspective. It has been so helpful. I look forward to more videos from you.

Just remember the little things, birthdays, special days ect. can be big. Put them on your calendar. Just letting your former foster kiddos know you remember is big.

Glad to see you back! As a fellow doodle owner, definitely keep up with the brushing or you will have mats galore. I recommend getting a wet brush (human hairbrush - it's inexpensive). My doodle LOVES being brushed with this brush and wasn't a huge fan of others in the beginning.

As a groomer, doodles definitely needs lots of brushing. Human brushes are not the best. Dog brushes are made specifically for dogs, as is dog shampoo and conditioner. The best brush for doodles, is the big black brush made by Chris Christianson. The pins are made in a way to get down to the skin which is what needs to happen. The wet brush, the pins are way too far apart so brushing will not be complete. Also taking a metal comb and going over every area down to the skin makes sure to keep them mat free.

@@lauradavis4848 I appreciate the advice. We've used the wet brush on her for a year and have not had any mats. We make sure to get down to the skin with it. It's really the only brush she tolerates so it's the best option for us, but I understand it may not be the best option for all.

I have a lot of content ideas that I would LOVE to see from you! Sorry if this seems blunt, but I'm going to list them in case you're ever looking for ideas: 1. Daily routines - morning, afternoon, night, etc (with foster and bio). 2. Establishing rules and routines with new placements. 3. Household systems - laundry, chores/rotations, 4. Electronics expectations - monitoring, use in rooms, when they brought the phone vs you provided it, contact with family on the phone, screen time limits, nightly end time, etc. 5. Bedtimes, curfews, check-ins, etc. 6. When problems come up between your foster kids and your bio kids and vice verse.

I know doodles can be a lot of trouble if they aren't heavily trained, hopefully she's acclimated well and she's doing alright after the puppy mill! Happy to see you posting again!

Find a trainer! Send him to dog camp lol. My brother's doodle wasn't trained except by him, and he spent a ton for the best breed, and that dog is bonkers.

@@FLMegan Yeahhh unfortunately there is no "best breed" of doodle. Since they're poodle mixes they're notorious for behavioral issues, it's due to poodles being so intelligent so the mix of another breed ends up making doodles a bit of a mess mentally which can manifest physically :( with training though they can be wonderful dogs!!

I am not a foster parent, but struggle with remembering to periodically 'check in' with people. Something that has helped me, is setting up scheduled text messages. If I know someone's birthday is coming up, and it's a busy week, I may forget, I will set a message to be delivered on that day

Great question, I have seen this where they are conducted separately but it would depend on the family, the agency, and the case.

Ive seen where parents are technically together or married but because of DV issues or other issues visitation is done separately. It really is a case by case basis.
