Its time to move back to Japan I live in Korea currently for 4 years Being a teacher isn't easy But i live like a king here compared to my life in america Where i also found myself working at call centers lol 😅 I'm working on my masters to move up to international schools I did study education as did my wife so this is our profession

Don’t worry Ozzy take your time thanks for informing us, hope your dad and mom get better soon, and Mayu finds a job soon in the meantime I would help her set up some sort of freelance work maybe teaching people Japanese or doing art commissions if she likes that. Those telephone call jobs are the worst you won’t be seeing me work there 😂 maybe you could find a job in video editing can edit videos for people they could pay you or you can work in some sort of film project just my suggestions.

Hey man. I really appreciate how transparent you are being - always have been. I wish the best to you, Mayu and the pup. I was never even full time in Japan, maybe 60-90 days per year, but I left 60-90% of my heart there after March 2020. My project there was de-prioritized and my job eliminated. I have been back to twice since October (total 29 days 笑) on my own dime and going back in 4 weeks, but it’s not the same. I have similar family obligations, plus kids, and I’m struggling with where I want to be.

Ozzy, thank you for the update. I've been watching you since 2016 and I still watch you to this day because of your kindness which inspires me a lot. I hope it gets better with your parents and look forward to seeing your life unfold in the upcoming years with Mayu and Maple.

good luck in 2023! I understand the pull of going back home to take care of family... I'm still in Japan, but thinking of moving back to the States in 2025. One thing you could look into in Toronto, if you haven't already, is that so many Japanese students at uni go to Canada for a year or more and perhaps you could work somewhere that facilitates and arranges these visits.

Your family is lucky to have you. We hope your relationship with Mayu is going well, too. Curious to hear your thoughts on Vancouver, it's changed a lot (not great). Good to hear your diabetes is under control. That runs in my family, it can be scary. It's hard, I door dash way too much. I'm kinda all over the place with my comment. I love living in Japan, I can't imagine living back in Toronto. Don't want to get stabbed on the TTC. I think I was just lucky to avoid being trapped as a teacher. Within 4 months of teaching I got into recruiting. Much better salary. Plus potential to earn over 12M. Even as a English only speaker

It's a very different place from when you left my guy, wish you the best with everything.

I had done call centres for two years and the amount of physical and mental health issues I had from that was endless. Never again! I wish you good luck Ozzy!

I feel you Ozzy. I returned to the USA some 25 yrs. ago with a Japanese spouse. We sort of eased into it , via Guam, Hawaii, then the mainland. She was able to get some tourism work in both Guam and Hawaii so not much English needed , none , really. I had to get out of the tourist rut to try to make better money on the mainland and worked at a large bank call-center. It was as you say, timed to the second and constant. A real electronic hellscape. But they had free health insurance which helped us out. (That's America , your health care is tied to your job). I lasted about a year, worked security, and finally got a Federal level job part time. Which I held until the earliest possible retirement -age 62. Managed to get out before that at 61 , with the help of a very sharp psychologist who supported us in our goal just to make it to social security. I officially got out on my 62nd b-day with negative balances in both sick and annual leave, a boost to the social security due to 'disablity' and even started a fresh round of unemployment after retiring. None of that was easy and I had to become a good actor and learned to shamelessly push the boundaries of bureaucracy and 'the social safety net' apparatus to no end. Ah well ...I am writing because we had a few things in common. Hang in there and be pro-active, and tenacious. My wife never did get good at spoken English, but she has been an above average partner in the struggle to survive this capitalist dystopia. I think she learned that working in Japan. She got the memo.

Toronto has been on the decline for years now. The focus is on construction and building and development and it seems like everything else is just falling apart outside of that. Cost of living, health care is super decline and anyone living with health issues are taking way too long to get looked at or help that this so called free health care system is supposed to provide. Many times it takes so long to get appointments and diagnose issues that health issues get way worse than if they had been looked after early on. This is unfortunately the trend here. It's good that you are here and able to help your parents. I get to see them often when I go for prayers they are usually there so that is a good thing to see. I would say one awesome thing about Mayu is that she does cook some of the tastiest food in town! Hopefully she will be comfortable soon enough to start working as well and that should help out even if it is part time etc. Keep up the search for something new workwise, the one thing here right now is that there is high turnover in work all over the city as people keep changing jobs, coming going etc. Where I work there is shortage of workers and a lot of times new people come and they get some experience and leave. No one seems to stick around for the long haul these days but that also makes for lots of opportunities for other people to come and get work. I also found pay is increasing in a lot of jobs just to attract people to come work. When a city is as expensive as Toronto and the jobs can't cover rent etc. no one sticks around. So many places have to compete now a days for workers so just keep up the search, I am positive you'll find something better! Cheers mate!

So sorry to hear about your parents health, it’s good that you are home to help them out and support them. Life can get really busy, it’s good that you are being positive about it. Winter can be really isolating here. I’m actually going to Japan at the end of this month it will be my first time there. Wishing you all the best.

I was looking to move to Japan from Canada, don't you find Japan has more things to offer and better quality of life but careers prospect isn't great but still worth the trade off? Canada feels like living to work

hey take care ^^ Prices in Ontario are crazy when i was there in December i was so surprised how much more groceries were then here in van. We have to hang next time i'm there ( December was for family reasons) Have you looked into maybe translation jobs? I can't remember your level of jp but I know there are quite a few jobs available for on set, and different companies.

Hopefully everything turns out for the better 🙏🏼 in the future if things keep going the way they are, would moving back to Japan be something you guys would consider ? I'm in BC and it's horrible. The SWAT team was across the street from McDonald's today arresting someone out of a motel known for bed bugs. I'm so done with it here lol. 😂 Everything is expensive. However, we are looking into maybe moving to NB area as it's much more affordable than BC. I'm sorry to hear about your parents and Mayu's depression. It's a difficult transition period in your life, but you have each other. Having a positive and grateful attitude will help, I feel. If Mayu would like a penpal to help her learn English, I'd totally be down. Getting snail mail feels good when it's not bills. Plus it may help her feel more confident.

Set up your patreon again and have mayu make some vlogs or reaction videos. I'd pay for that. Alternatively, if she's willing to teach me intermediate Japanese, I can pay by the session.

Japan needs to find a solution for jobs... by far, it's the biggest complaint about the country.
