I really like the way you guys did this!going to give it a shot myself. going to use it to build a foam Daredevil helmet. I made one using a male Styrofoam head.. turns out that it was way too small for my head

Fantastic Film Factory love it, what did you use to seal it?
@fantasticfilmfactory6812
@fantasticfilmfactory6812 7 жыл бұрын
Hey! I've covered the sculpt with normal black wall paint and sealed it afterwards with a few coats of wood glue. But I made a mistake, I didn't wait for the plaster to dry completely before painting and sealing it, so the paint and the wood glue started to peel of after a while because of the moisture in the plaster head... If you want to do such a cast by yourself, I recommend to wait with painting and sealing until the plaster cast is fully dry.

Joan Laron for the lifecast i used about 15 kg and about the same amount for the cast... but 10 kg are probably enough in your case ;)

great tutorial! many good tips. just an idea, you could try using 1cm thick silicon or latex layer then fill with plaster or, for lighter weight, expanding foam. that way you can maintain detail for projects that require detail but still have structure and support without too much cost.

to get a flater line on the forehead, where the plastic wrap needs to be sealed to the skin, brush on a line of silicon glue/moulding solution and push the wrap edge into it.

Use lots and lots of Vaseline on your skin! I just found out the hard way by putting on too thinly. The plaster bandage really sticks and rips your tiny hairs out; it was really stuck in some spots.

Need to be careful using plaster like this. It can heat up and burn your skin.

The plaster heats up, so if you use hot water, it can be too hot for your skin. It is better to use cold water.

Thanks for a great video. How did you make the rotating stand (base of head)?
@fantasticfilmfactory6812
@fantasticfilmfactory6812 6 жыл бұрын
Hey, I just build a simple box and sawed a fitting hole into the top. I then drilled a hole into the bottom of the pole that is attached to the head and drove a nail through the middle of the bottom side of the box. If the pole is then stuck into the box, the nail goes into the drilled hole, so the head can be rotated. Hope this helped;D

I really, really, really want to do it, but I just have a small problem: I'm claustrophobic. Tips? Advices?
@fantasticfilmfactory6812
@fantasticfilmfactory6812 6 жыл бұрын
Flavio Imbrò hey, you are right, that could be a problem. Although a plaster lifecast is not as extreme as a silicone cast, it can feel pretty narrow under the cast. What you could do is to leave out areas like the mouth and the eyes until the end, which could be much more comfortable to wear.... And, really important: if you panic, dont hesitate to get rid of the cast, even if it's not finished. A few plaster strips are not worth a panic attack. The adventage of a plaster cast is, that it dries pretty fast and can be ripped of really quickly in an emergency situation (use lots of vaseline!). Good luck with your cast, I hope everything goes well!
@meteor3033
@meteor3033 6 жыл бұрын
hey flavio, although the life cast seems to be like an anciant torture to wear, in reality its just like you wearing clothes, (clothes that dont move) you dont feel trapped at all. you just know that thereis plaster on your skin, but its like a shirt ir pants. also never put plater in your eyes you are claustrophobic or not. it will rip off your eyelashes and the results in skin and eyes will be terrible. avoid the eye area and then put a plaster bandage on it when off your face. normally you wont be sculpting things directly on your eyeball, so its ok. but if you would, the eyelids dont really have a very precise shape, just a little hill hope this helped

@fantasticfilmfactory6812

Bladespirit hey, I used ordenairy plaster of paris i got from home depot- the plaster bandages are just casting the rough shape of the head, not the skin structure, so I didnt really need a lot of detail;)
