It really is.. what's super funny is that this cast actually had one of my eyebrow hairs sticking out of it. It transferred to the mold, and stayed in through two other castings before getting stuck in this one.

Love your video. Just a tip when pouring up a life cast of a head, don't use wood scraps, I use scrap burlap or sisal fiber to pad it out. Put a bunch at the bottom of the bucket and create a pillow and then stuff it all around. Also don't fill it full of plaster at least not all at once. Do it in layers either pour some in, let it set and pour some more till full. Or do more of a build up brushing it up the sides and all around like painting it on at least till you have about an inch thick of plaster all the way around. The only issue with doing that is not all plasters or gypsums like to bond to each other. A good plaster for doing what I have suggested is ultracal 30. It's also one the strongest mass used gypsum products on the market when it comes to casting. Doing this method will give you a more accurate cast and you shouldnt get weird lumps/ dents in your head. Also the painting method will reduce the air bubbles you get on the surface. Hope this helps and I hope I didn't over step. I've done a ton of these and I have learned great tricks doing them and watching master lifecasters work.

Definite fan of the dry-erase idea. Then fine tip dry-erase markers for layouts; using different colors as needed to clarify parts

+Charlie Symons yeah mine was already at the house when I moved in about October last year and it's sadly only 4 X 3 , However I did extend it about 1.5 meters where out bins were but now we moved them so yay more space! Btw at my old house it was a 2 + 1/2 car garage so yeah kinda small compared.

First of all: great video! Do you think it would work to coat the mold with a thin layer of epoxy or polyurethane? It would give the mold a bit more durability and you would be able to use whiteboard markers to do outlining or other temporary drawing.

Hey Bob... can't wait to see some of the stuff you come up with using your head...and using the cast of your head as well. I remember in a prior video you talked about how making the mold using a different material could pull your hair out. Well, you've got me pulling my hair out. This might be a little inside baseball, but how the heck did you make those subscribe buttons that have hover effects at the end of the video?!?! If you were to make a video on that, it probably wouldn't perform too well...but I can guarantee that it would get at least one thumbs up from this guy right here :)

Hey, I have a question: When poring the casting material, would the cast be better if you shook the mold as pouring, or maybe swirl it around the mold, like what was done with the expanding foam? Looking at doing this at our maker space and just looking to reduce the trial and error where possible.

I definitely think that would help. Also, a mold release, or other spray that would break surface tension will help stop bubbles from forming on the sides. Swirling it around, like you mentioned, would probably be a huge improvement.

Do you think paper mache would stick to the plaster? That's the problem I had when I first made a life mask, and I couldn't use it to make anything cause the paper mache would stick to it and ruin it. Would a plastic cast work better? What would you recommend for a light durable cast that will still keep the detail?

I don't think you ever got around to adding that hydrocal mixing video, and I'd definitely find that useful. But thanks for this! I'm planning on doing some costume piece making as a hobby and this two part video definitely helped me figure out how I ought to make lifecasted limb mannequins like I'm planning to do.

Great video, do you think it would be worth it to go through the casting process again in the future if anything ever happened to your current casting?

Yeah definitely. I'm going to hang onto the mold just in case. I think the ideal way to do this is to make 1 cast from the original mold, then remold that cast with a more resilient silicone so that you can pull more casts from it in the future. The silicone in the original mold isn't made to hold up to multiple castings.

Cool, seriously wanna try some ideas out. Thinking about doing the cast of my head, then lightly covering it in clay, then adding some quartz crystal points all over the clay head. Then I wanna try doing a silicone cast over that to try and make a crystal face mask with something clear.

Oh and you might want to check out the EvilTed Channel as well, he is the guy from tested. On the channel are quite some tips for good seems and doing patterns that fit well. I don't know if his way is the best out there, but from what I know I'd say its pretty smart :)

What material would you make your mold out of for making prosthetic? Which means it would be cast in silicone and foam often. The material needs to be durable.

A 3D scan of your head would be nice, too. Then you could either replicate yourself with your 3D printer, or laminate multiple layers of laser-cut materials --- in various scales, too.
