Those knobs aren’t volume they are input level adjustments. If you look they have a max of 0db meaning no loss. Some devices have an output level that is to high for the input of the amplifier to handle. The Bluetooth device he had attached was lower output then a professional mixer. The amp was barely working here. Also if you are trying to damage a speaker over powering it is less likely to damage it then under powering as when you under power you are more likely to have distortion and that will destroy your speaker. Also the LED’s that are lighting up are supposed to when signal is present. The more they light up solid without flicker the more signal is present until the LED’s labeled clip start to light up and then you have to much input. This is why I know the output of the Bluetooth device was insufficient. This is not an honest review. This is a guy who has no clue what he is talking about.

@@jeremiahfisher7366 well when you say your doing an honest review it actually does matter if he knows what he is doing or not. I never said the amp was good. I said he wouldn’t do a review if he doesn’t know what he is talking about. I can say I would never buy Rockville speakers. I use EV and Turbosound and have crown amps. The reason it matters if he knows what he is doing is because of reviews other products that are good but doesn’t know what he is doing then he may give a bad review.

I could be mistaken, but I believe that you need something along the lines of a preamp, like a mixer or receiver etc. That way you can use it to boost the signal from the audio source such as cell phone, CD player, cassette deck, etc. that you want to send into the amplifier. Then you can turn up the attenuators on the amplifier to get the desired volume. Thanks for your videos.

If you want to test it correctly then use a non-reactive load which would be either a 4 or an 8 ohm resistor dummy load for an amp like this then run a single sine wave tone through the amp in the range of 500 hz to 1 Khz and use a scope to set the amp for it's highest output BEFORE it clips. Now you have a known voltage is across a known load. You can now do some simple RMS power calculations for the actual power output. Here's a basic formula. P=E^2/R. or better yet in layman's terms, your actual RMS power equals the AC voltage you measured across the dummy load squared then you take the measured squared AC voltage and you divide it into the dummy load's resistive value and this will give you the actual RMS power the amp is outputting. You can also check the frequency response or the "flatness" of the amp by trying different sine wave frequencies in the range of whatever they say this amp is supposed to be able deliver in their spec manual... Hope this helps.

@@LIFEINSPEED I purchased the RPA-5 which they call a 1000 watt amp but their RMS ratings do not match their actual tech specs description. However they are accurate to their tech specs for the amp but it isn't 1000 watts no matter how you test it unless you light it on fire.The manual claimed 125 Watts RMS into an 8 ohm load and 250 Watts into a 4 ohm load and it tested to their specs but how they get 1000 watts even bridged out of 500 watts is total BS. For me all I needed was 100 clean watts per channel so this amp works just fine for my needs which is hot spot monitors. As to testing the amp the way I described you can still test the amp without a scope just by watching the clip light while under load with a dummy load to make sure that it is just below the clip light activating and you can download wave or mp3 sine wave test tones all day long for free for a iPad or a simple mp3 player. You would just use a decent volt meter and a 4 or an 8 ohm dummy load and follow what I described in my original message. The test won't be as accurate without a scope BUT you'll still be well within a few watts of accuracy which will be close enough to answer your questions.

@@LIFEINSPEED Your not understanding. If you are speeding towards a cliff do you press the gas and accelerate to demonstrate how fast your car is or slam the breaks? The amp can detect if the load is too low for it to be stable so instead of cooking itself it runs at much lower power. Also those are gain knobs, not volume knobs this needs a preamp

This is what happened to me. I was educated by the comments section. I bought a Bellari PA550 pre amp for 130 bucks and it boosted the line signal. With the proper signal getting to the amp it bumps my two Kicker CVX 10s hard enough to cook them. I'm going to repair my Rockford fosgate T2 12 with dual 4 ohm coils and connect it to this amp. One of my tinsel leads broke away from the coil.

Bridged requires 8ohm of load on this device. If the load is too low the amp circuit will be unstable and cook itself. To prevent this the engineer probably implemented something to power limit. Furthermore you are confusing a gain knob with a volume knob, this requires a preamp/receiver

You're not supposed to bridge that amp at 4 ohms. Its not a car amplifier. If you don't have DJ speakers or home audio speakers you should have at least hooked up the 4 ohm speakers on each channel, which is what its rated at. Those speaker wires are tiny too. I am pretty impressed by that little DIY amp you put together. Where did you get the kit from?

I notice the wattage adjust to certain speakers, when I tried blowing a smaller speaker, it wouldn't output enough power. When I use my full setup, I'm using two Pioneer CS-705s, and some other 3-way speakers that do 200 watts. I'm also running one channel with JL audio 12 inch sub, does 500 watts RMS, so it's actually peaking the one channel. (I'm also using an equalizer). The total system wattage adds up to 900 watts RMS. I know the amp isn't made to run that, but it handles it just fine from my experience. But I definitely believe you need a signal booster of some sort to unlock its full power, because I had this same issue before without one.

Power amps don't have a volumes unless an integrated amp. I owned a Rockville AMP. They are dependable and decent. You need a pre-AMP to fully appreciate the power of the power AMP. RMS is not the true power of the power amp. You gauge with the wattage. My electronic teacher once said, The bigger the transformer and heavy, that means the amp has enough potential to generate enough power or wattage.

75 dB is like an average quiet car diving. I'd say the fans are loud. But, I don't believe you don't know what you are doing. It's pushing the crap out of that 6X9 no problem. Would you prefer an amp that has no protection and just blows out your speaker? --That little amp has no where near the capabilities of the Rockville, and it clearly doesn't push it hard. Also, if the power out put is limited on the Rockville, and the power difference is even half on that BT amp, you likely wouldn't notice much difference between dB is logarithmic.

I'm shocked that you do DJ stuff but dont know the difference between a volume control and input sensitivity control. All those knobs are , are level controls to adjust input sensitivity. You need a source that has certain amount of voltage to drive the amp. If you're using a cell phone or something stupid like that, then ya you're not going to get much output. You need a preamp, mixer or some source that can provide whatever voltage is needed to drive the amp to full power. Probably somewhere between 1-3v depending on where the dial is set..etc.

With all due respect, I suggest you review a product that you are proficient in using. You are posting a video that is misleading, as it will make people that lack actual technical knowledge (like yourself) not purchase an otherwise perfectly fine product. I have that amp (2 units actually) and performed the same test that you did. I even matched the input source type, same speakers and bridged the amp. I got exactly the same result as you! It sounded like garbage. I then put the amp back into the rack ( 8 amps total-4 QSC, 1 Crown, 1 Peavy and 2 Rockvilles) plugged in the XLR input and output, flipped the master power and cranked everything up. I then went down to the bin this Rockville was sending juice to, sat on it and had my balls bounce around for a little bit from the bass the sub and amp were putting out. All I can say is: DUDE, there is/was NOTHING wrong with that amp. Check out ohm's law and check you specs on the stuff you used.

LOLOLOLOL oh god, i haven't laughed that hard in such w long time. you know next to nothing about audio guy. your first mistake is trying to drive that amp with your phone and a 3.5mm trs to rca adapter. you need a line driver or preamp if you want to use your phone as a source, most phones and rechargeable devices have a signal well under a volt and that amp is expecting a couple. secondly that amp is only stable down to 4 ohms stereo, you bridged it at 4, to the amp you just gave it a 2 ohm load on both channels. then you just cranked the gain to 0db. dood, just stop. i have that same exact amp powering 2 2-way speakers with four drivers each at 8 ohms and have no problem getting well over 100db without it even getting hot. yup, the fans are loud, they're loud because the move a lot of air and you're not supposed to be listening with your head a few inches away. it's meant to be operated in a really noisey environment or located some distance away from the audience/crowd. being heavy is actually a good thing because it's a class a/b amp which use MASSIVE toroids meaning that more often then not the heavier the amp is the bigger the toroid, the most expensive part of the amp, and thus the better the performance. rockville might have been overly optimistic about the power handling of their k9's (not to mention how they handled that shit show), but as far as i can see and measure they're spot on here. i'm actually getting about 220w clean per channel @ 1khz with both channels being driven, and it's loud as shit (i can't stand it for more than a few seconds). i mean, if you want to bitch about false power ratings pro audio, right now, is just as bad as the car audio scene in the early 00's. you can, no shit, find a "10kw" amp on amazon for under $200 right this very second. if you just want to pick on rockville then bring up the k9 shit, or maybe make fun of them for their equipment not actually fitting in a 19" rack properly. they seem to screw up more than your average company, but either way, you're the one with egg on his face for being a mindless consumer and not doing your research on how to operate a bleeding amplifier properly before pissing about it on the internet.

Couldn’t say it better myself, no one will probably read your comment or even understand half of what you said lol. Like you said the voltage from the rca output isn’t probably enough to use it as a source unless using a preamp to provide voltage that that amp need for inputs

@@Mysha0726 i'm wordy when i'm annoyed :P it gets tiresome coming across videos of people bitching about stuff when it's their own fault. if i ever encounter a problem with equipment, especially a major glaring "problem" as illustrated in the video, i always assume i've done something wrong. blaming the equipment is my last step. besides, why even use the unbalanced ins when a $50 preamp will give you balanced outs?? i constantly forget that this amp even has unbalanced ins. just makes no sense... i'm learning how to airbrush, it looks like shit and the airbrush isn't performing the way i see other similar brushes perform on videos. i could blame the airbrush, raise a fuss, and waste money on a more expensive one, or i could realize that i've got some learning to do. i see this a lot with model kit reviews. of course it's falling apart when you play with it, it's a model ffs.

@cenobytecode
@cenobytecode 3 жыл бұрын
@@brentwilliams5915 Absolutely, that's one of the things it is made for. Note that almost all half stacks that are wired stereo are 16ohm per channel because they are meant to be stacked together for 8ohm. I have a fender slant 4-12 that is 8ohm bridged and this thing will run two of them no problem since it is a 4ohm driver. My unit will be here Monday and I'll be driving it via a Line6 red bean. Finally, power amps work on load... a tiny speaker just isn't able to put enough of a load on amp.

@@brentwilliams5915 sure, np. Same reason for me, after more than 25 years of service my Fender M80 head died. I used to run a Digitech RP1 so I only ever used as a power amp anyway (bypass effects in head). Oh and if you do run it into 16ohm, you'll get half power but it will beef up the mids of the cab so you may need to adjust the eq on your patches a bit.

There are proper ways to measure output and this isn’t it. This amp is being run naked with no preamp input. The knobs on the front are not volume controls, they are gains. Those amps im learning are actually decent for the money and a real benchmark test would be an interesting show.

This entire set up is wrong. I run my 1000w amp through my mackie pro10fx. External speakers each at 400w. This pushes it. I think the purchaser bought the wrong type of amp for what use was intended for. I use it to power passive PA speakers. I can guarantee that if you put a mixer in front, it will tear those 6X9 to pieces. I hope you have fixed the issue.

I'm gonna second @DJ nighthawk here at no point did i see clipping on the rockville it maybe junk or it could be fine, without a proper test and gain structure you have no clue. First education lesson: the voltage output of a headphone jack or rca device is not enough to drive a pro level amp that is designed to be fed from a mixer or preamp. You need a mixer if you want to run that amp up to clip.

Man is right I have 2 18 inch scar subwoofers and I tried it with this same Rockville amp With 2 XLRs And I bridged it And put low frequency on Rockville is a scam, the amp isn’t 3000w, it’s quality you need and not just looking for random pieces of garbage. This is why no one buys Rockville, and it’s not that recognizable Try buying a crown or a QSC. I’m done.
