Sometimes a very talented wrestler can find their career being hobbled by nothing more than a bad gimmick. And whenever this happens everyone loses as it means not only does that person fail to get over, but fans also don’t get entertained in the way they might have otherwise. Luckily though, there are plenty of examples of such performers rescuing themselves from failure by changing up their gimmick and breathing new life into themselves in the process. But what are the biggest examples of this? Well, that’s exactly what we’re going to be looking at today.

Crazy thing is, in a few years he would become an amalgamation of the Prototype and Dr. Thuganomics. Aside from using some slang here and there and wearing jorts, Cena's character today isn't too much different from his original form. He just needed a chance to prove he was that dude.

I may be in the minority but Dominik is a future star. His buildup and the match with his own father at Wrestlemania was brilliant to watch. He is constantly improving in the ring and he garners that old school heat that wrestling is all about.

The Undertaker, on paper should have ended in the 90's there was no way fan would buy the idea of an undead mortician wrestler seriously. it's only due to Mark's absolutley incredible dedication to the character and his ability as a wrestler that it became such a serious long time role. i believe that if it had been anyone other than him i highly doubt it would have been at all successful

Roman Reigns would likely still be part of the top card even if he hadn't changed his gimmick. The Rock on the other hand would likely not have been in any title picture (much less motion picture) without a gimmick change.

That fact that Vince got a talent like Ron Simmons and didn't give him a gimmick/character or at least give him some say in creating a character that would let his charisma, and unbridled badassery shine through is a crime. You can just see it in his eyes that he had no idea, and was miserable, in the Farooq Assad character. So glad that he was put in with the NOD stable. I hated them at the time. But having gotten wise to the business I now know that that was the point. That mean they were over, and gotdamn if they weren't WAY over. And Scott Hall has always had a great feel for the business and knew what to do that was best for the business. And fortunately Vince let him have a say in his character development. It was Scott's idea to make a character based on Scareface (a movie Vince had never seen). And it was just sooooo good. He knew in-ring psychology, how to work the crowd, all of it. Us fans were robbed of the booker Scott Hall could've been. RIP to the Bad Guy.

You know what would be a fun to watch top 10. Wrestlers that could never work out in a rival promotion. Lol I say this because could The Undertaker or Shawn Michaels really fit on nitro entrance and all? A good example was Bret Hart. He didn't fit in WCW he was WWF made it's like seeing AJ style in WWE it's cool but it doesn't fully fit he's a TNA guy like or not. Lol I'm just saying examples hopefully y'all get what I mean but yeah a top 10 of that would be nice to see uploaded one day...

Ron Simmons was a former World Champion and Tag Team Champion in the old WCW. He got stuck with that stupid gladiator gimmick in WWF. It didn't save his career. It just made him look ridiculous for a while.

I personally didn't really click with Alexa until she did the stuff with Wyatt, after which I really enjoyed what she did. She's got a lot of acting ability which that showed off and it was so different to anything else in years. I feel like the mean girl gimmick is a bit over done and we've got Tiffany Stratton doing it in NXT right now and it just doesn't appeal to me.
