Everyone knows how much I love my Honda Rebel 1100...but could the new 2022 Harley-Davidson Nightster change all of that?
When Harley announced the new Nightster, it felt like a direct shot at the new Rebel 1100. The two motorcycles are within a few horsepower of each other and a few pounds of each other- how could it not feel intentional?
But past those similarities, there are some serious differences. So...which one is the best- the new 2022 Harley Davidson Nightster or the Honda Rebel 1100? You gotta watch to find out!

Thats not a saying, never was, and never will be. Metric bikes are throw away bikes. They dont need much maintenance because they dont last long enough to need any. Metrics you put 30k miles on it and throw it away and get a new one. Where with HD's they dont even need the top end serviced until 100k.

Hi! I own myself a Honda NC 750 X and I bought it brand new in 2019. The gear box got stucked at about 8500 km without any explanation. I also know that CB 500 x had some problems with the watter pump. So, I won't bet on Honda reliability anymore!

So I'm definitely an H-D guy, one of the ignorant ones who refuses to buy anything other than a harley, at that. I started out on a Rebel 300 and sold it within a couple months for a sportster 1200. With these new revolution max engines, I can 100% say I would go with the rebel 1100 over the new harleys. Why pay more for the same thing? The rebel even looks a little better in my opinion. Crazy that H-D can charge that much for a rebel rip-off.

I’m always happy to see a reformed Harley addict! 😂😂😂 But in all seriousness, I agree. In this case the Rebel is just hands down the better bike for the price. Hopefully as Harley does more with the Rev Max motors, they’ll be able to bring the price down a bit to be more competitive 🤞🏻

I’m absolutely right there with you. I’m on my second Harley right now, a ‘21 Low Rider S that I absolutely love. I started on my 2020 iron 883 and am always defending Harley’s honor among metric riders. That said, there’s no way I would pay $5k more for what is essentially a Harley rebel 975 when the original is readily available and so affordable. I wouldn’t pay $3k more. $2k…yes, yes I would. It’s still a Harley. But it’s too expensive for what you get. I’m not in the market for this kind of bike, but if I were, I’m getting a Honda rebel 11oo without question. I would need my head examined if I spent that much money on this bike when the very same thing is available somewhere else for thousands less. That’s just insanity.

@HahrtDood Yes, Indian dealership problems and availability are a huge turnoff for the brand. The FTR is definitely a bike I could get with! If Harley ever does release the Bronx, it will likely be so overpriced it might be laughable at this point? A 975, street fighter naked, making 100hp, with a full tech package and 38 degree lean angle…….MSRP $30,000, freight $1,000, surcharges $800, in black of course. $1400 more if you want a red one. Then a 1250 Bronx costing only $1k more!

@HahrtDood You are out of your goddamn mind, dude. Indians don't compare to Harley's at all. They're way overpriced for what you get, they perform about the same, their handling and comfort is about the same or just subjective. Their build quality is absolutely fucking garbage, especially compared to Harley. There are a lot of uninformed comments on this video. I'm not about to go over all of them...

I’m so glad to see someone finally comparing this new sportster to the actual bike it’s mostly comparable to….the Honda rebel 11oo. This just solidifies what I’ve been saying all along….This new Nightmare bike is way TOO expensive! The new Harley rebel 975 makes the same power, has less technology, less lean, and cost thousands more. Why? Because it’s a Harley? Not good enough. There’s no real justification for the exuberant price tag. I can’t tell you the amount of sh*t I’ve taken for complaining about the price when there are far more affordable options available from Japanese manufacturers. Anyway, finally a “voice of reason” among the fanboy reviews I’ve been seeing all over YT. I especially like when Harley flies KZfaqrs around the country, pays their hotel, picks up the tab for everything, and gives them the Royal treatment, all for their “unbiased” reviews of their bikes. Excellent way to get a totally neutral opinion from someone.

In my first week with the Rebel 1100, coming from a CBR500. I went with the DCT and it’s certainly something to get used to. Already feel it’s hard to beat the value the 1100 gives you. A little more here in Canada, but still an awesome machine for the $. This new Nightster had me thinking before I pulled the trigger on the Honda, but the Wings won my $. Thanks for the review.

For that price it should have 10 more hp, dual front discs and higher spec suspension front and rear. As is, Harley should drop about 2k to be competitive. With Rebel 1100’s for less $ and Speed twins for the same $, it’s a hard sell imo. Solid review and a great comparison.
@shadowrider7072

100% agree with this sentiment. It's a solid bike, but there are bikes that perform just as good, look just as good or better, and either cost less money or the same and are already established in the market. (speed twin, scout, rebel....) While I do like the new revolution motors (I had a pan am special briefly) I wish they would have kept the big boy in the small bike. They lowered the price and removed surcharges on Nightster. Now its $11,999 and the Special is $13,499 and has usb ports, cruise control, 5 modes, 5 inch risers, nicer wheels, heated grips, darker engine covers and the better speedo/gauge. I also think it has customizable modes too. So its significantly more appealing especially the Nightster Special!

@biblereader Harleys are extremely reliable. Anyone who says otherwise is telling you right off the fact they're just a hater. It's also true they use a much higher grade of materials, which is factored in to the MSRP (but you also see in the resale value down the line.) Put a Softail Standard next to something like a Fury and you'll see why the Standard is $2k more, everything is metal and everything on the Honda is thin plastic.
@fugenpower
@fugenpower 2 жыл бұрын
@@stevem4783 I’ve been cross shopping the rebel and the nightster and the plastic/metal argument is not true for this particular HD. Although HD may use higher quality materials on their more expensive bikes, HD uses a lot of plastic on the nightster. You’d think for the $4-5k price difference HD would use all premium materials, but they didn’t. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/msWloqWVl7e7oHU.html

I just can’t think of anything that would make me want to pay way to much for a bike with little to no tech, bad reliability, extremely heavy and horrible handling characteristics when there are so so many far superior choices on the market. The "bang for the buck" folks are always going to gravitate towards the Rebel 1100, but for some reason this crowd never factors in the terrible resale value of Japanese Cruisers. Most people finance, and the difference 4 grand makes is about $60 extra a month. Not a huge deal IMO. I'm pretty tall and the Nightster feels much more comfortable. And you better believe down the road there's going to be way more aftermarket parts for a Harley than there are for a Honda Rebel......Go HD go!

Yeah the price vs known reliable/power to dollar ratios is massive. I can confidently say the MT09/XSR900 can walk a lot of bikes for such a cheap price under 100mph. Harley might be able to sell a "sport touring" strictly road version of pan am for the 15-20k.

People from Harley Davidson are doing a very good job releasing new models. That means that they trust in their capacity of being able to conquer new markets. But they should also take a little bit more about selling process outside US in order to successfuly do this . I'm from Romania, a small European country (but not the smallest and a UE member). I've intended to purchase a Softail Standard (which supposed to be my first Harley) from Bucharest dealer but they didn't have it for a ride test. I asked for testing a Street Bob but I've faced the same result. More over I've been told that it takes 6 month for a Softal Standard to be delivered. So I gave up and I made an option for a Japanese motorcycle.

Harley isn’t going to put anything on a bike they don’t have to, unless they can charge a small fortune for it. Just look at this one? They finally make a modern sportster, with 90hp, a few rider modes, and some very basic tech, and they price it like they’ve reinvented the motorcycle! Just $15,000 in grey or red if you can find a MSRP dealership? If not, well…..you know the game.

@biblereader Yes, the evo sportster is a classic, iconic, bike! You can customize it to the moon and back as well. I love those bikes! Simple, reliable, iconic, and they sound like a Harley! My iron 883 sounded so good it just made you cry tears of joy. As far as emissions….Harley could make them E-5 compliant if they wanted to, but they have this new engine and they are going forward with it. I don’t blame them for that at all. What I do blame them for is the outrageous prices they are coming up with! Even a new evo sportster which has been in production, as is, for decades, costs far more than it should. There’s just no excuse for a new iron 883 to cost $13-14k except corporate greed. Harley has become so greedy I’m afraid it’s going to be the death of them.

Sounds like it's designed after the V-Rod to be a baby version of it. Oh, damn, a Sportster with a gas gauge? That's cool. It's crazy to me that as much as you compare it, I've never seen a Rebel 1100. My area is mostly Harley, Indian, and Yamaha, not too many Hondas. I'm a big Harley lover, but I'm disabled and because of that, I found the Sportster S as too uncomfortable; I can't ride crotch rocket style bikes because of knee positioning.

As a Harley rider I’ve come to find that on the “real Harley’s” if you have a heel shifter It’s significantly easier to find neutral then using the toe shift.

Harley is definitely the Cadillac of bikes, but that Nightster is sick... but for that price you could get the Rebel 1100 and have extra for customization pieces to make it yours. Not bad pricing though, it's a steal compared to other Harley bikes... but best bang for the buck still goes to Honda. Great video, like always (so glad I found you from researching the Rebel) and look forward to seeing you rip your other bikes more. Stay safe and have fun.

Great review man! Been thinking about picking up a Rebel after I sell my Triumph bobber black! Super curious about something though. Does your Burly Brand sissy bar work with the factory saddlebag mounts? I'd love to have both attached but would worry about clearance/space.
@LifeOfBurch
@LifeOfBurch 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks dude!! As far as I know, the Burly sissy bar (and most other aftermarket sissy bars) won’t work with the factory saddlebag mounts. I haven’t tested it, but I think that’s why the stock back rest is totally flat where it meets the fender- so that the saddlebag mounts, rear rack, etc. can sit flush to it and not stick out super far. I’ve never seen the stock saddlebags in person so they *might* work and just stick out a bit further, but I can’t say for sure.

I don't know why but it just looks goofy to me. Like it's still in concept and not finished being built or designed yet. It's symmetry is just all over the place. If a lot of the decisions were done for cost savings then I'm wondering what they cut to get it DOWN to almost $14k!

My problem is I love all motorcycles… In Canada Honda jacked the price of the Rebel 1100… the nightster is more expensive, true… but you’re not limited to top speed (if that matters to you) and you bet the aftermarket support will be hands down much larger to this. Fuel economy is neck and neck. Based on data it shows you get more mileage per dollar on this. Oh and as for tech… hydraulic valve lash… that’s worth a ton by itself. Great video Mike. Keep up the amazing work!!

In Calgary, Calgary HD is trying to sell Iron 883's for 18k+. So it's not just Honda raising prices. I have a feeling the price tag Canadian HD dealers will put on this bike will be well north of 22k.

Thanks dude!! Yea the aftermarket support for this is sure to be WAY more than the Rebel, but after you spend that extra $4,400-$4,800 on the bike, how much do you really have left for mods anyway?! 😂 And I’m in the works for a top speed solution for the Rebel 1100 right now sooo 👀👀👀

@@LARGO125 I hear you. I was extremely pissed with Honda Canada when the 1100 first showed up. The price was a few thousand more then the US market (after conversion… for no reason. And now it’s climbed since. As for Harley and the 883… that one’s sticking around for some time. Adding a little more and the nightster is a most better option then the 883.

For only maybe $2000 more you can get a Softail Standard with the 107 M8 engine and way better mono-shock suspension. Sure, it's 150 lbs heavier, but a super nice ride and a more traditional look, feel, and sound. Nightster is a cool carver I guess but the Softail line of bikes are more comfortable and practical for everyday use. Maybe I'm biased from my age but I ride my '09 Sportster 1200 Custom every day that's not raining and I'm perfectly happy with my chromed out EVO. If the Nightster can go 0 to 60 twice as fast as me, ask me if I care.

Were all biased to some extent and I can definitely see that in your review lol. I've also ridden all 3. Personally I don't like the rebel 1100 that much. Yes it's the cheapest, but the motor feels choppy , foot pegs too high, and looks bare bones to me. It does have tech which is nice and the price is low but you get what you pay for imo. The nightster on the other hand is a solid bike. The revolution max engine is smooth and predictable and is alot of fun. The bike looks really good. My only complaint is it feels kinda small, but what can you expect from an entry level bike.also the airbox intake noise sounds awesome (it growls lol) At last but not least is the sportster s. Now I may be biased as well because I own the sportster s but I absolutely love the bike. For $2k more then the nightser you get all the tech, gobs of power, and is by far the best motor. My buddy has a rebel 1100, we raced and I gapped him by about 6 car lengths in the 1/4 mile. I will agree with you on the suspension tho. The rear shock travel is too short. Your spine will take a beating on bad roads. I tried adjusting it and it helps but still not good. Overall that's the order I would go. If your gonna go rebel just stick with the 500 that's a good little bike.

Yes that Rebel 500 is nice and the engine is good. But the 1100 is just a better package and I like the power, the 471 is small when you go back to it after the 1100.

I appreciate that HD is finally trying to compete with other manufacturers in a meaningful way. However they lost the classic Harley look and sound with that new engine which was the main reason to buy one. If you're going to dump your major selling point they need to drop the price tag to actually compete. I won't pay 3k-4k for a HD badge when Honda has a proven history of reliability.

Big step up for Harley... still not quite as good as the Rebel. I think they cut a lot of the Harley quality type things out though with all the plastic, where Harley used to have so much metal parts. They went a lot cheaper on the quality on this, but the price tag is still pretty high.
@shadowrider7072
@shadowrider7072 2 жыл бұрын
A lot of manufacturers switched to plastic fairings and parts because they reduce weight, not just because they are "cheap." When you start getting into these types of bikes that are modern "muscle cruisers" or "roadsters", it basically becomes a power to weight ratio game from an engineering standpoint. Steel (especially steels resistant to corrosion with chrome moly) are both pricey AND heavy. Even mild carbon steel is pricey to due various issues currently, and much of it is lower quality than it used to be years ago due to regulation and recycling. Aluminum is cheap and plentiful (just more difficult to fabricate with on a large scale, requiring special welding procedures and abrasive materials), and "plastic" is super light and easy to manufacture and fabricate. About the only other way to make the bike lighter is by using something like Titanium Alloys (very pricey and VERY difficult to fabricate with, and quite often too rigid for stress absorption), or carbon fiber (also very very expensive.) I'd also point out that none of these previously mentioned materials are subject to rust and don't need to be zinc plated.
