​@@candowonpressup6962Did you ever hear back? I tried asking them if I could pull the filter out and store it separately from the jerrycan for long-term storage but they very curtly said it's not recommended which really isn't a definitive answer either way.

I have two of these Jerry cans and one came with the filter in a foil pouch, the other did not. I have not put water in either one yet, as I am trying to keep them like new for when I might need them. The filter that did not come sealed in a foil pouch I have wrapped with food-grade plastic wrap. My thinking is that if the sealed filter in the pouch is good for 10 years without being wet, then the new filter wrapped in plastic wrap should be good for a few years as well. Even so, if it is kept clean and is not allowed to dry completely out, (if previously exposed to water) then in my mind it might not reach the full filtering capacity of 20.000 liters but should still filter a lot of water. I agree that once it has been primed with water, and the glycerin coating removed, it should be kept in the can with a small amount of water as described in the video. I hope this helps.

Hi all, it is advised to keep the filter dry if you are storing it for an emergency. Try not to expose it to air, keep the pump and tap closed tightly. This should last several years. When you do come to prime the filter, you then simply keep some clean water in the Jerrycan to store it, replacing that water each month ideally. Thanks

​@lifesaverwaterpurifiers so basically we can keep the whole unit packaged in the box it shipped in and not use it at all for a while correct?
