Which breed of cat lives the longest?
Cats are the most popular pets in the world after dogs. This relationship between cats and humans goes back as far as 10,000 years ago and now a large number of cat varieties are kept as pets. So let's see in this video, the average life span of several types of cats around the world.

I wish cats and dogs lived for 30 to 40 years. I’ve been blessed to have 9 cats in my lifetime and I miss every one of them every single day.

There actually was cats and dogs who lived 30-40 years, it's rare but possible. I hope mine will reach at least close to it. For longevity It's very important to feed them appropriate diet. Their immune system should be monitored (simple vitamin mix can save a life) they need to exercise (even in old age), they need to be indoor cats with catios of some sort if possible (if not it's fine), you should be careful about toxic cleaning products, eteric oils, fabric softener, cat litter... They shouldn't be vaccinated for everything and balance between holistic and regular vet is the best approach. This is kind of formula for a chance they will have a long life. I'm researching all the time what is best for them, what are new researches said, how to cure bad illnesses with different/new approach... As a veterinarian (by profession, not working as one) is a bit easier for me to find useful informations, but anyone can do it if you know what to look or what not to look (ignore all of the suspicious advices from personal blogs or magazines)

My half-Bengal passed away last week at the age of 19. We lost his brother last October. My oldest cat, a moggy (Domestic Short Hair) lived to 23. Next was just shy of 22, then 21, then 20. Apart from the half-Bengals, all my cats have been moggies. It does help that they are indoor cats only.

Yes, indoor cats do live longer. My boy was a short hair moggy as well. He passed away 2 years ago at the age of 25, house cat all his life.

I had a orange tabby just pass and he was with us for 25 years. Since he came in our house as a full grown stray we'll never know how old he actually was. Another orange tabby stray that also wandered into our lives lived for 22 years. A white short hair 19 years, a grey long hair 21 years. The only thing they had in common as they were street cats not pedigrees as the over breeding causes weak and sickly cats that die young. Stay away from breeders, go to shelters where cats are dumped and not wanted anymore, you'll save a life and be rewarded with many years of enjoyment.

Our domestic short-hair rescue lived to be 22 years old. Her successor, a Maine Coon, with his papers naming him "Furtaztic Night Train IV", only lived to be 8, and he'd been in good shape until his eighth year when his kidneys suddenly failed. His replacement, a Tuxedo rescue, is on 10 years and going. The tuxedo is the most affectionate cat I ever met. The Maine Coon was the smartest cat I've ever met. The Coon was also very funny about clock time: he did not permit visitors past 11pm without bringing up a fuss that always frightened our visitors: that's when people would learn just how big a Coon Cat looks when its growling at you and whipping its tail. Visitors would leave, and Furtaztic would instantly go back to his huge, sweet self. But that Coon would savage vets, and I always felt bad that he'd do it, but it was just his nature. For the family and friends he knew, he was amazingly gentle and playful. But he was a terror to visitors and plumbers/contractors.

My parents used to have this one American shorthair red tabby for almost 18 years. When I was almost 9 years old in mid July 1979 that they did adopted him inside. I did grew up with this cat,too. About 3 years not living with in 1994-1997. He was an old sweetie towards me. He was a buddy towards me. He did knew that I loved him. He was frail looking before my parents decided to put him down. He even did sat on my grandmother’s thigh a couple times. She didn’t even bother to pet him. I do missed his head bumps on my chin and nose. We named him Morris.

Domestic cat's have longevity. Keep him indoors, fed and healthy. He can easily go past 20.

Oh my grandparents ”have” a stray bombay cat they swear is over 20 years old. He’ is missing and eye but he’s still very active and has the build of a professional wrestler. I (ofc) doubted that so my grandpa managed to find an 18 year old vet record for the cat. I don’t know what’s more impressive, how old this cat is or my grandparents’ hoarding skills.

I got a medium haired calico, she passed her 22 birthday this February. Yeah, she doesn't climb or jump up like she used to. She also has weakened back legs. But her ears and appetite are as sharp as ever.

My cat Louise was born near christmas in 1993! It was a memorable christmas because not only did we get a new computer but the Doom videogame came out at about the same time and she was one of the gifts! If people think im joking i actually applied for a world record! They emailed me and told me theyd need proof and not just my word to go by. Sadly it didnt go through but its interesting to know shes one of tye oldest cats alive. Right now shes sutting outside recovering from a nasty infection.

My stray domestic ( grey stripes with spots on belly) just turned 19 in March ..got her at 5 weeks in bad area if NYC ..(I’m retired law enforcement) I wanted to take a pet home to remember..so we have been retired 18 years…😂 I’ll tell you..only 1 set of vaccines…not a lot of flea meds..she still looks so young…her name is Savana…and I use that cat water….that stuff is amazing

I can attest that Turkish Angoras have generally long lifespans. I lost my female, Puck, to cancer just a few weeks prior to her 20th birthday. My other Turk, Kahlua, has diabetes and is still going strong at age 19.

These are general average estimates on cat life. I had a purebred Persian cat that lived to 20 years. Depends on the cat.

Интересно. Все относительно, конечно. Наш британец, знаменитый в свое время, The Grey Monk's Lovely Adam прожил ровно 20 лет и умер от рака верхней челюсти. Его подруга, нибелунг- метис, прожила 19 лет, причина смерти тоже рак, только нижней челюсти. Когда ей было 12, у нее был выявлен плоскоклеточный рак слизистой носового хода и лучевая терапия оказалась чрезвычайно эффективной. Иногда мне кажется, что животные расплачиваются своим здоровьем и жизнью за наше недостойное поведение.

These numbers look very low and the probably based on old data. Cats who go outside have an average lifespan of around 4 but indoor cats (who love an outdoor screen room or enclosed balcony) live much longer. The healthiest, longest lived cat are your standard domestic cat, who average around 20 years when well cared for. The ones who have shorter, more painful lives are the really inbred cats, like Scottish Folds, Munchkins or Persians, who all tend to have health problems. Inbreeding is always a bad idea; get your beautiful kitty from the shelter.

the normal, domestc cat, is becomeing quite rare, these days. everyone who has one is told that they should have them neuterd, here in the UK, & , if they dont, they are told that they are "wicked & irrisponsible". the result is that they are rapidly being neuterd to extinction!!!. eventualy, only very expensive pedigree breeds will exist, so that only those rich enough to afford them will be able to have a cat, which is what is secretly being planned, i suppose!🐱🙁

My previous cat, my second Bluepoint Siamese lived to 19. He would’ve been 20 had he lived five more months. The Bluepoint before him lived for 13 years. I had to give my first one up at 5 years old. My two now aren’t Siamese but I hope they live to 19 or a little older. It’s never long enough.
