@@tiloalo H-Milk only in an emergency situation - like camping on a festival for your morning coffee. I don't like the taste of H-Milch since I like to drink pure milk once in a while.

IDK where you got your information from, but the majority of the german population likes and consumes H-milk.

Services like hospitals, firefighters and police forces don't really stop during holidays and Sundays. Most gas stops and also a lot of restaurants also stay open during those times (not all, but most of them. Restaurants compensate with being closed another day during the week). So if you go hungry on a Sunday, you can always try and find a restaurant that's open. :)

Also bakeries are usually open on Sunday morning. And groceries store are open on Sunday in railway station in big cities.

People go to have walks in the wood/mountains, do ski, or lots of activity outside with their family during holidays. On Sunday lots of people visit family or have long lunch with friends.

With the amount of differen types of bread and cheese there are in Germany, it's actually possible to eat a different kind of cheese sandwich each day of the year!

We do refridgerate milk ... the one on the shelves is H-Milch which is ultra-high heated and made to last long without refridgerating. It is not very tasty and IMHO seems watered down and has a bit of cardboard-y taste to it. Vollmilch (the real deal) is refridgerated and tastes like milk. Germany is a secular state, we do have all these religous days off but they are just days off to many. The only time you see a filled church here is for Christmas Eve. :D

Sundays: In most areas you'll still find open cafes, restaurants, bars, cinemas etc... you just can't go shopping. And some "emergency" shopping still can be done on sundays (Forgot to get eggs for your sunday cake? Go to the kiosk around the corner, or the 24/7 gas-station and you'll probably find what you've been looking for).

1:47 Milk - we have both. What you refer to is H-Milch ultra high heated milk, so the bacteria count is extremely low and you can store it at room temperature. You can also buy milk from the supermarket fridge. This is milk that is cooled down right after milking to keep the bacteria count down and the cool chain needs to be uninterrupted as much as possible. If you live in the country you can buy milk still directly from dairy farmer, though no longer from the milk bucket into your milk can still warm like when I was young. Dairy farmer have to cool milk down right after milking and are only allowed to sell milk from their cooling tanks.

Steak is best BBQed english. Leave away the burned parts and mince it. Add, salt, pepper, onions and perhaps curry to it and call it "steak tartare", "raw hamburger" or "german Hackfleisch".

0:51 I am glad you had a positive experience with Germans. On the other hand, it is important to put it in perspective. Germans are very helpful and friendly if you have pale skin and blonde hair. It becomes most egregiously obvious when you travel to Europe with a group of diverse people and they treat one person vs another differently.
