What is the lowest speed we can Efoil using the new Elite Hand Controller from LIFT FOILS.
Documenting the SPEED and AMPS to the best of our abilities.
Wings tested: 100Surf V2, 150 HA, 150 Surf v2, 160 Camber Pro, 210 Camber Pro, 220 HA X.
Note: Everyone at different weights and sizes will have a different outcome. The goal was to give a general idea on some of the different wings and the performances they can have.
Enjoy!

Wow thanks for the scientific test! Really useful data. Another way to possibly test this minimum speed is by actually stalling the wings. Get on foil and then try your best to stay up halfway on the mast. Then lower speed until you stall and the board slaps the water.

Foil/take off speed (mph)/lift amp/cruise amps/area (cm2)/aspect ratio: 100 surf v2/. 10/30/22/654/6.3 150 surf v2/. 8/25/21/965/6.5 160 camber pro/. 9/25/15/1032/6.2 210 camber pro/. 8/23/16/1355/5.3 150 ha x/. 8/20/15/970/10.1 220 ha x/. 8/17/13/1419/8.4 So, for light wind wingfoiling, high aspect, higher surface front wings are better in almost every element: despite similar take-off speeds, high aspect + high surface foils demand less energy to fly and keep flying. Disclaimer: not an engineer, and I didn't consider other variables, like the thickness of foils, etc.

Noice! So many reviews based on "seat of the pants" in regards to Foil shape/size/thickness/AR. This really isolates as best as possible changing one variable to see how the foils compare. It would be nice to see the findings/data in a table, with Foil specs included (AR/thickness/width/area).

Agree 100% This opened up a whole lot more questions on our end as well. More to come. Top end? :)

Very interesting results Damien. thank you for doing the test. i efoil on a large lake, and it can be pretty rough. Getting up in the waves can be very difficult on smaller foils, they seem to lose or struggle for lift in the waves, even at full power. Getting up is easier (for me) on the larger foils, seemingly because there is enough power to get them out of the waves and up on a plane. is that something you could test for?

Well you hit a good point! Lakes (fresh water) will need more power or a larger wings than say salt water. So yes in general you will want a larger wing.

This is what is missing from Lift’s website. It’s so hard to justifying another $900 front wing when they give a 2 sentence description of the wing

Good info.....just trying to learn what is what with these things. Checked out your website last night I may come down and take a lesson in March. Where is the best place to stay that would be close to your launch and might also have kiteboarding opportunities?

Closest hotel to both flat water spot and ocean is Hutchinson Marriott Resort. Great winging at Stuart Causeway, and great kiting and winging at Santa Lucea beach.

I want to know the speeds you can reach. So too ... I ponder bringing scuba gear with. In particular ... those foils used ... which lift easier ... I suspect their speed wouldn't be as high as those which lift more easily. Please reply and lmk if incorrect. Thank you for your time

Not sure I fully understand the question but foils can hit 40 knots. Most of our Lift foils wings will do 30mph. Average 15 MPH. There is no question you can bring scuba gear with you, anchor and dive. I hope that answers the questions.
