It’s an awesome jeep! Get a pair of chains at an auto store for front tires and 4wd low and it’s candy plus you can steer with front tires and chains. Ice comes down to grip.. take them off for higher speeds though.

some people use 6 inch led light bars as replacements for the factory fog lights. what i did was hunted ebay for a LED replacement bulb for the factory XJ fogs, i ended up finding replacement bulbs that are 2 color, 6000k white, and 3000k yellow\amber. all you have to do to change color is flip your factory fog light switch on and off. i think they were less than 20$ for the pair. i really liked them, they matched the color of my led headlights when they were set to white. now i have Jk wrangler round fog lights mounted in my bumper, i did the same thing with those, dual color bulbs, all using the factory XJ wiring, i just soldered on the jk ends to plug into the bulbs. i like running mine on yellow seems brighter and its just different.

My first XJ 1996 5 speed Dana 30 high pinion with 8.25 29 spline axles ended up on a 3" Rustys offroad lift basically and 35s on 15x8 steelies was actually a great setup, my 95 2 dr SE 5 speed with around 3" lift and adjustable Ironman 4x4 fab upper and lower control arms ( Best short arms in the business ) on 33x12.5x15 Baja Claws drove and handled amazing! Best xj I've had, my 4.6 01 stroker on around 6" Rough Country long arm on 33x10.5x15 BFG All Terrains with 8.8 Ford rear axle with 4:11s and transplant Dana 30 high pinion was fast as hell! The 4.6 stroker is so worth it! Unfortunately I sold it to a friend and he made her mint! Custom interior etc, 2 day ago I picked up a whacky 98 on 33x12.5x15 Falken Wildpeaks that look brand new, she needs some work but runs strong and drives good, I'm S.A.Sing my 03 Tacoma so she's my daily driver now, I love my trucks, want More!

maybe me..but it actually looked a bit more stable with the all-seasons and lower to the ground..of course there was more ice..so..?..a toss up?..hmm?..your a very good driver though..maybe next winter a spruce knob/dolly sods venture?..kudos! in da 304! yeah!
@KCars
@KCars 2 жыл бұрын
Hard to compare the actual stability but the mud tires definitely performed better. Could’ve stayed in 2WD the whole time except for the icy part. With the all seasons I had to use 4WD for some parts of the same drive even without ice. Spruce knob during the winter would be a lot of fun but might be a bit too far for my comfort level with my 21 year old XJ. Might be time to add a new wrangler to the collection and then make some trips?👀

@@KCars thanks for clarifying..did the bigger tires bring you gas consumption down a whole bunch?.i have not owned a jeep but suppose to pick one up tomorrow..i'm up in the panhandle and back in a hollow so i'm thinking of going slightly higher and bigger before next winter..

@@KCars Snow tires or snow rated A/T tires are designed to hold snow in the tread grooves and sipes (snow on snow gives maximum traction). The siping is what gives you traction. You'll notice a dedicated snow tire has massive amounts of siping all across the entire tread block whereas a 3 peak rated a/t ( these tires do well in heavier snow conditions) will have a good amount of siping as well but not what a true snow tire will have. Then you get to the m+s rated a/t's which have siping but not as much as a 3 peak rated a/t (these tires are good in lighter snow conditions). M/T's on the other hand are designed to eject all material and debris from the tread block to be able to clean itself and dig in for maximum traction in mud. Which is completely contradictory to what is required for maximum traction in snow. M/T's have virtually no siping as well in the tread blocks (again, with a M/T you want all debris removed from the tire and not held onto which makes them bad all around for snow conditions). You'd most definitely see improved performance by airing down your M/T's float on top of the snow but would absolutely need to be aired back up before taking it back on any road surface as the tire would maker any road travel extremely hazardous at lower than rated psi. Sorry for the length of this explanation but it's necessary to adequately respond. Hope this helps !
@KCars
@KCars 3 жыл бұрын
I always thought it was the opposite. That if snow gets trapped in the tread it would basically make the tire bald and not have any traction. You learn something new everyday
@Aqwanermuk
@Aqwanermuk 3 жыл бұрын
@@KCars Another major factor is the rubber compound. Tires are engineered with a specific temperature range. That's why you see race cars zig zagging on warm up laps before the start flag drops- they have to get proper heat into the tires so they'll grip. Michigan gets some intense winter conditions, and nobody ever mentioned winter tires to me until I lived in Alaska. Now I absolutely refuse to drive without them in winter. It feels stupid, foolish and irresponsible without them... kinda like not wearing a seatbelt. But with the amount of snow you get, I wouldn't buy them.

If your going downhill down shift to 1st-2nd instead of using/relying on your breaks.
@KCars
@KCars 3 жыл бұрын
I used to think that this was a good idea until I did this and my tires completely locked up because it was so slippery and I had no control over it and almost wrecked. That’s why I rely on only the brakes when in slippery conditions because if I start to lose traction I can let off the brakes and regain traction and correct it instead of continuing to slide.
