Fam your jeep is perfect the way it is. Unless you just want to go crazy with 4 links and stuff like that all I suggest is maintain it like you already doing. BTW 96' 4.0 ax15 all original. I bought it for 500 u.s.d.. door hing pins on driver side and passenger floor pan rust due the that seal on the firewall. 240,00k miles. Like you said it's not for sale lol.

That’s exactly my plan. I’d like to do some more rust maintenance and possibly upgrade the steering but other than that, just maintain it. Your 96 is probably a fun Jeep as well, how’s the AX15?

The door check pin is cracked. Just get a new one and tap it in. The small bracket may need replacing too if the hole got reamed out. You're going to ruin the door check itself leaving it like that. Get extras and keep them in the glovebox. Four Cherokees in 32 years and only one overheated. The radiator blew. I have well over 500k miles in Cherokees and only 4 breakdowns that required a tow. If I had the parts a roadside repair could have been done. These rigs are pretty basic. I'll keep my current 99 forever. Yours looks really nice.

You make me fall in love with my XJ JEEP 1999 bro, I recently install a clayton 6.5 long arm lift kit to my jeep with 4 stainless steel vision wheels. I installed an aluminum radiator with 3 fans, i replaced the head gasket with an oem one and people love it. what I love about it, when I have a problem with it, I just go to youtube look for feedback and I fix it myself. I'm gonna start to shine it just like you brother. i bought it for 6000 dollars but now it cost me 23,000 dollars

I'm about to start my own Jeep XJ project, I've had her for 18 years and decided to get some mods for her. I was looking into the 4.5" lift kit but after seeing your Jeep I'm convinced the 3" will do just fine, so thanks for that. Have a question though, after lifting and installing the 31-10.5 tires, do you need to change the wheels? The factory 15" wheels won't work with that setup? Thanks and great job with your Jeep mods, I enjoyed the vid a lot.
@KCars
@KCars Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! I would think that you could put 31s on the stock wheels, however, they are an inch narrower than my wheels so they might just be a little more pinched and have less of a contact patch. Not 100% sure on that though but I’d definitely go for aftermarket wheels anyways just because I like how they look more than the stock wheels but of course that’s just my opinion

Issues are still not bad for a vehicle made 21+ years ago. haha Rust is their biggest one though for sure. I have a 1990 Cherokee Poineer I've also Undercoated inside and out with POR 15 so she will last me. And yes, the fuel mileage. Reinx XJ's get slghtly better mileage than the newer HO models. That's IF everything in the fuel delivery system is functioning properly of course. For people that live far from work though, now days really need a small fuel efficent car. Great video, love seeing people give reviews after owning something for a good period of time.

I love the Rusty’s steering linkage i put on my 2001 xj. The clearance issue is from the drag link contacting the track bar bolt when making a full right turn. It’s negligible as it barely scratches the paint of the drag link and isn’t enough to damage the track bar bolt. I think Rusty’s even started supplying a replacement bolt with an Allen head to fix it

Genuine Mopar parts are absolutely the way to go if you can still find them. I can't find them consistently anymore and it's almost like my jeep inevitably rejects non OEM parts, or they fail earlier than original Mopar. I've had my 99 XJ for 17 years 255,000 now and keep her running cherry, and I have compared many parts. Radiator, sensors, gauges, water pumps, manifolds, alternators etc, even sparkplugs (learned very quickly to stay away from fancy, original champions or jeep just acts funny). Another example was when I bought a non mopar thermostat 180 because I thought it would be a great idea if my jeep ran cooler, boy was that a mistake. XJ was already given me 13 per gallon then I dipped to 11 because it ran rich. Found a brand new Mopar 195 and just like the original engineers intended, jumped to 15. These vehicles were designed to run hot.

My 89, closed system, never overheated but ran warm. Fixed the electric fan but still had heat creep. Installed a new fan clutch. My 89 is a lot older than yours. Only 124K miles now, uses no oil, rust free, needs painting. Just something to think about. I was going to go with a new aluminum radiator but the fan clutch fix it. My old fan clutch was probably at about 50 to 70 percent good. The new one made a big difference.

@Roberto Ferrari agreed. I have a 98 cherokee and an 83 mercedes 240D. I find most parts I need at the local pick your part, and I pull extra parts to sell on eBay. I'm essentially at a break even on repairs, and have no car payment. The thought of spending $600 a month on a car I can't repair myself slugs crazy to me.

Those rims look good but they are heavy. You could get a little better mileage with something lighter.

BRUH! All you need to do is hammer that pin on the door check strap back thru both sides of the body mount!! It's literally about to fall the fuck out of there. Just need a little tappy tap tap and you're golden

@@KCars No problem! Hopefully it's still there! I have lost a few of those funky lookin roll pins due to the bracket on the body becoming wallowed out and the roll pin no longer fitting. Moved the bracket from the rear passenger to my drivers door and now my least used door is clicky and poppy and my most used door is buttery smooth. Also I'd recommend taking a look at Project Farm's videos on here and his testing of undercoatings, bed liners, and other rust prevention methods. You'll find that fluid film isn't even as good as WD40. When I put Iron Rock Offroad's Rocklink Pro long arm kit with rear coil spring conversion with 4 link long arms on my y2k XJ, I stripped the undercarriage, trailer'd it to Arma Coatings to have the underside professionally sprayed with bed liner, and then after that cured, I used about 15 rattlecans of 3M rubberized undercoating and sprayed over the bed liner so when my 37's kick up big rocks they don't chip the bed liner. Also it cut the road noise down to the point where I can do 65 down the highway on boggers and still hear my blower motor when it's on speed 1. Before the Arma Coating and rubberized undercoating, I could barely hear the blower motor when it was on speed 4 and I had it on AC recirculate over the roaring drone of the 37x13.5 TSL Boggers.

Thanks, I’ll have to look into that. I’ve thought about doing the rubberized undercoating as well to help make it look better and protect it better as well. I’d just be a little worried about trapping moisture underneath the coating

@@KCars brake clean will be your friend here, not only does brake clean evaporate and dry super quickly, but it takes water with it. It molecularly bonds with the hydrogens stripping them from their oxygen. Also, tetrachloroethylene, abundantly found in brake clean, is one of the main ingredients in rubberized undercoating that keeps it in a liquid form, along with acetone. Both of these evaporate super quickly leaving behind the rubber wherever you spray it, making brake clean dually purposeful when spraying undercoating. It dries out any moisture before application, and effortlessly removes any overspray you may accidently get on your paint, driveshafts, axle housings, trans, Tcase, or exhaust. Definitely remove any undercoating overspray from the exhaust. You do not want to let it cure on there. It STANKS when the exhaust gets hot.

Hmmm I never thought about break clean that way. What about when the moisture gets underneath the undercoating after it has already been applied

You’re super picky, 20 year old cars with a tiny rust spot, most older cars are in the junk yard not doing shit but being dead cars, collecting dust. Your XJ is nicer than most people’s newer cars. Seriously I’ve had a lot of cars and these are ones you keep.
