It was time to get our Narrowboat home lifted out of the water to see just what was going under there - What an incredible experience to watch and document! It is a wonderful feeling to know she is now safe and protected for many years to come!

There’s a contractor in the area who has a sign on the back of his truck … .. it says “The Joy Of A Bargain Lasts Only A Moment But The Agony Of A Job Poorly Done Lasts And Lasts” You didn’t discuss the price difference of painting this method but from the looks of their craftsmanship it seems you’ll be enjoying a paint job well done properly for a very long time.

Excellent work. Very satisfying and peace of mind for a long, long time that you have good hull integrity. It was great to meet you the other week at Trent Lock (Paul, NB Rock Solid). I made it down the River Trent - very exciting especially getting into Keadby Lock. Onwards to Ripon! Keep the videos coming. 👍🏻

That was interesting , they did a great job ,they looked to be well organised . I didn’t like the bit were they where laying under the Boat Spraying ( that will give me Nightmares). They say Painting is one of the most Dangerous Jobs . Not from the risk of getting squashed, but from all the Chemicals in the Paint ( much better getting someone else to do the Job ) . Did you find the Boat moves and handles better now its been painted. Now you know how its done ,you can go and give ‘MAY’ a hand painting her boat 😊.

First time I have seen grit blasting using glass - it looks very effective. Your boat hull appears to be in amazing condition. Did you check the steel thickness while it was on dry land? Nice to see you put the boatyard details in the description, but could you add the specific Jotun product details? I'm interested to learn more about it since 10 to 12 years is so long a product life. Out and back in the water in just 24 hours is really something too. Other boats seem to take 4 to 10 days when using traditional methods, but I'm sure you are more aware of that than me. All in all impressive from start to finish except perhaps for the grit blasting in the open air that maybe causing pollution. Even then the Jotun product used it probably much safer than traditional blacking that slowly pollutes all the time in the water.

Very good to see a different way you blacken a boat. Question: How do you check the anodes for replacement?
@thefloatinghome17
@thefloatinghome17 Жыл бұрын
It’s a good question! So we were convinced they would need changing but when we lifted the boat out we were told they kind of disintegrate over time if they need replacing and ours looked pretty good!

I bought a boat last week. It gets surveyed next Monday. And it had 2 pack on a few years ago. So that survey will be interesting. I would rather use bitumen and take it out every 2 years. Because you can scrape that 2 pack off before you get through the first day. Then that part of the hull will be exposed for how long? Exactly....... You need to pay to have the boat taken out every couple of years to inspect that 2 pack coating & repair the sections where it's been scraped off. And ofcourse those magnesium anodes need inspection or replacement. You cannot put 2 pack on then leave the boat in the water for 10 years. Or you can. But...........

Great video.. you'll never regret the initial outlay.. one of the best investments I ever made to my boat... Ive had mine out three times in fifteen years and I'm alway astonished how well the hull condition is .. apart from the odd scrape and a few blisters it's like new.. I paid £3000 in 2008.. how much is it costing in 2023.?

Two part Epoxy £3,500 is a lot of money? I prefer to do it with the traditional way with bitumen based paint. Ballastic Black paint is a good one? Done every two years? Keeps the boat looking good every two years? And cheaper?

Great vlog! Thank you for taking us with you during the whole proces. Was just wondering about the gridblasting they used on your boat using shredded recycled bottles. Isn’t that terribly environmental unfriendly? A lot of people, including myself, are concerned about the amount of microplastics in our environment. And here is a company that is gridblasting with it in open air. So it is getting spread through the wind. With no means of cleaning it up. Of course it works great for getting paint off, but wouldn’t sand be better? I do not want to judge, but was just wondering about your choice.
